The face also evokes a longing for acceptance, a yearning to be understood. Her complex expression is impressively captured by Kirsten’s interpretation of her emotion. Kirsten really allows the viewer to step into her world, immerse yourself in her personality and begin to interpret her thoug...hts. The intensity of this piece is all about how it makes you feel and Kirsten’s talent to bring this to life is impressive. The original of this piece is enormous 1.2 metres by 1 metre and is done with a mixture of lead pencil and charcoal pencil. Kirsten drew the piece sideways, and it took over 3 weeks to complete. Exhibition ~ MONO ICONS @provenance_wines Gorecki represents a culmination of emotions the artist experienced over a period of months, enduring the isolation of the pandemic. Sinking into a deeply sad and confined mental space, left the artist feeling confused and lacking direction. Unsure of what direction to follow, grieving the loss of memories and experiences, she found her icon. This piece, her face, offered the artist a respite from the noise, the confusion and the helplessness around her. This gentle, sad, yet centred muse brought a sense of peace in a world of madness. She is also a heroic muse, who provided a source of strength, leading you into a space of innocence and playfulness. The artist Kirsten is strongly influenced by music and during her hours drawing this muse, she listened to two separate artists, from the Polish composer, Gorecki and following this named her muse Gorecki. Exhibition ~ MONO ICONS @provenance_wines Behind the Veil is an emotive piece representing society’s collective voice that has been figuratively and, in some cases, literally silenced during this year’s COVID outbreak. The depiction of this face partially covered represents the shield we all carry around with us, a mask, a coerced silence. The hidden scars of COVID include suicide, depression, domestic violence, isolation and loss. The muse is a voice for all the children who are enduring the absence of friends, grandparents and family. All the young people dealing with their inner emotions of an uncertain future, silenced and unable to share their inner emotions.
