25.01.2022 One of the KEY parts of understanding birth is understanding your body. And a first step in that is being taught how to accurately name each part of your incred...ible body. I teach my kids that they grew in my womb, not in my tummy. And that it takes a sperm, an egg, and a womb to make a baby, not a freaking cabbage patch. Loving this visual from Sex Positive Families sourced by Rockstar Anjuli Samuriwo - Childbirth Educator & Doula ~ Shalome x #rockstarbirthmagazine #rockstarbirthradiopodcast #rockyourbirthacademy

24.01.2022 Posts like this make my blood boil... incomplete communication and skimming over the facts... For what it's worth here's my thoughts: Let's clarify, the fetal electrode does have its benefits... it absolutely can spot problems early and more easily for staff. However, it's not a little string, nor is it a little clip. It's a metal screw that is twisted into the scalp ( or cheek or forehead - if the presentation of the babies head is not in an optimal position) ... Babies do feel it, remember that nonsense about how babies don't feel pain? They do I've witnessed screws being removed, sometimes very easily and sometimes not so, leaving a cut and wound that bleeds. But it can give women the benefit of movement, access to a shower and lead to a successful vaginal birth avoiding a cesarean. So absolutely it is an option a very good one in some situations. But care providers must use the correct language so consent and appropriate decision making can been made by the birthing mother in often stressful situations. P.s. I'm a Doula and have seen the 'clip' used many many times and rarely is its application openly discussed. Coercion runs deep in some hospitals

16.01.2022 Shame on you Sunday night - what a disgracefully biased 'interview' on chiropractic care for children Alex Cullen's naritave was so obvious, an agenda, quite... pathetic to watch. And the immaturity and lack of open mindedness by the surgeon was embarrassing. Believing you're better than someone without listening to their experience shows an arrogance that is the absolute downfall of western culture. The health and wellbeing of your child is YOUR choice - it should always be that way.

10.01.2022 This image from a surrogate birth yesterday that my amazingly talented friend @lifesaspectrum captured brings on so much emotion! Grab tissues when you read her... caption y’all! Against all odds ~ After more than two years and thru surrogacy, multiple rounds of IVF , breech positioning (that was successfully flipped), and a scramble to change birth plan due to COVID-19, baby Luca was born safe and sound yesterday morning at his surrogates home and caught by his mom at long last. I’ve been quiet on here for a little while getting myself mentally, physically and emotionally ready to document this incredible birth during this unprecedented time. It was incredibly emotional to be around other people for the first time in weeks (all in masks and thoroughly sanitized) and for such a monumental occasion. Throughout this tragedy that is COVID-19, I have kept afloat emotionally knowing that #lifegoeson but to witness life emerging in real time, amidst such worldwide heartache- I’m forever changed. ~ Now, more than ever I am inspired by the power of humanity and the perseverance of love. Thank you, thank you to @mirelleleguia and your beautiful surrogate C and your families for inviting me into this year of your lives and for showing me what true sacrifice and dedication to family looks like. 05.01.2022 This is what home birth looks like, Midwives sitting at the table chatting, sipping coffee and water. Your best friend sitting on the floor playing with your to...ddler. Your partner holding your hand while you work with the waves that rush over you to bring your baby into this universe. Home birth isn’t how the movies depict birth. It isn’t an agonizing mother in hospital bed. It isn’t a woman who’s left to do the work all on her own. It isn’t unfamiliar doctors and nurses ushering in & out of your hospital room. Birth is, Powerful. A rite of passage. Transforming. Empowering. Normal.

05.01.2022 WOMEN EGGS AND AMH Did you know that a woman is born with all her eggs for her entire lifetime? (pretty cool huh?). We are born with about 1 million eggs and... release 300-400 when we ovulate over the period of your life. By the time you reach puberty you only have about 300, 000 eggs left. So wait....wait a minute? If only one egg per month is being released (the chosen one - queue holy music); how are the others lost? Remember, you have about 15-20 follicles that don't reach full maturity and just get reabsorbed. 1000 primordial follicles (immature eggs) are recruited and wait in sleeping mode; but only some make it through to the next round of development. So about 1000 primordial follicles (immature eggs) are lost each month through cell death. They are tired of waiting. It's survival of the fittest! AND there can only be ONE chosen one! Your stock pile of eggs is known as ovarian reserve. AMH (anti-mullerian hormone - this is the hormone secreted by developing follicles) is the blood test used to check your ovarian reserve. It's reliability is questionable. But don't stress ladies; even if you have low ovarian reserve it is all about the quality of the remaining eggs. I have seen plenty of women at the clinic with low AMH and have been able to naturally conceive :-) So don't get so caught up in AMH it really depends on other factors too, it is not the be all and end all! 03.01.2022 A gentle reminder in the pursuit of doing it all....

03.01.2022 https://video-syd2-1.xx.fbcdn.net//69950242_43937183345797 While I'm NOT a fan of Midwfe Cath and her advice I do support a woman's freedom to choose her care provider. Not all care providers suit all women, but this is the beauty of choice. I encourage all women to question advice when it doesn't feel right - if you feel unable to question your care provider or are made to feel 'silly' / dismissed/ ignored then perhaps you'll reconsider your care provider.
