How can something so divine and healing that only spreads health and beauty in abundance be considered a non essential? Currently the many risks of remaining open far outweigh the benefits for all of us. Darlings, I will reopen and we will dance together here once again. 14.01.2022 Its my birthday! 25 years ago (May 1st, 1995) I opened my academy in South Australia. Today being COVID-19 times, theres no party to celebrate the milestone which Id long dreamed of. I do however have this cherished moment now here on Facebook with you. This photo is circa 1997 after a trip to Egypt to meet Madame Abla for the first time. The great lady designed and fitted this pretty pink costume for me plus a few others$$$$ ouch, but worth every penny! By the time Id o...pened my academy in 1995 Id already been adventurous enough to experience 10 years performing in Adelaide, London and Portugal meeting many kindred artists and friends in the wider world of belly dance. On a less sparkly note, its not an easy road surviving solely as an artist. Every now and then I look back and wonder what life could have looked like had I married one of those gentlemen who held out their hand along the way. For better or worse, my devotion was always more dance rather than partner focused. Today as I celebrate 25 academy years I can truly say Im still deeply in love with my life career. From 1995 with 25 students to the dizzying heights of 700 students weekly in 2005, its been nothing short of a breathtaking journey. Ive personally taught over 12,000 classes and performed over 10,000 shows over 35 belly dance years. Ive performed for royalty and rock stars like Mick Jagger to home parties for the odd husband who forget how to behave. However I can never forget those of you who befriended me, helped me, inspired me, rejected me, embraced me, argued with me, laughed with me and cried with me.
