25.01.2022 Today is Human Rights Day. Observed annually on 10 December, this day marks the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. At the City of Belmont we recognise the importance of working with the community to create an environment where all residents feel valued as equal and involved citizens. This is why we’re currently conducting a survey as part of our ongoing support of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s ‘Racism. It Stops With Me’ campaign. 25.01.2022 There are a number of firsts in Belmont Hub to see when it opens in mid-October. #HubHype The City is the first and only Western Australian site to have a FE Technologies Automated Returns Sorter or Singulator in the new Ruth Faulkner Library. Youll be able to watch through the glass as your returned items are sorted over a series of conveyors into the correct bin by this amazing piece of machinery using RFID technology. The Singulator will speed up the returns process meaning the Librarys great resources are quickly back on the shelves ready for someone else to enjoy! If youre a City of Belmont resident or property owner, head to the Citys Operations Centre (180 Planet Street, Carlisle) from 9am - 2pm on Sunday 13 September to dispose of any whitegoods, motor oil, plate glass, mattress, e-waste, bed base and car batteries. Remember: ... Gas cylinders, old paint, computer equipment and TVs, fluorescent light tubes, motor oil as waste from commercial operations and household hazardous waste will not be accepted. Motor oil must be sealed in containers no larger than 20 litres (up to 60 litres per resident accepted). Our talented builder PACT Construction used specialised contractors to manufacture the custom-made structural steel work for the project. A feature of the structural steel frame is the 20 tonne central skylight structure which was craned in and fitted into ...place. 11.01.2022 Work is underway on the Tonkin Gap Project which includes Tonkin Highway - Collier Road to Dunreath Drive. This is a Main Roads Western Australia project that will address the current bottleneck where the highway reduces from three lanes to two lanes in Bayswater and Redcliffe, significantly reducing travel times and improving safety. Works on this project are pausing from 18 December 2020 to 4 January 2021, however, there will be some important works undertaken in the lead u...p to 18 December. These include the temporary closure of Dunstone Road (see image) in early December and night works along the median of Tonkin Highway between Great Eastern Highway and Stanton Road. Main Roads will have noise and vibration management measures in place to minimise disturbance. 10.01.2022 Today we welcomed our Youth Champions from Belmont City College to Belmont Hub for a special tour and sausage sizzle, and caught up with them afterwards to hear their thoughts! The Youth Champions initiative came from the City of Belmont Community Safety Taskforce. We wanted to hear directly from the youth what they would like to see in Belmont, and the Youth Champions are the voice of youth in our City.

10.01.2022 Hamish the Bear has a special place in the new Belmont Museum in Belmont Hub. He is believed to be early 1900s, and our textile conservator Patricia Moncrieff has been painstakingly restoring this well-loved bear ready for his new home in Belmont Museum. Hamish the Bear was given his name by a little girl who won the Citys Teddy Bears Picnic naming competition in 2016.... Hamishs patriotic tartan outfit with velvet jacket and beret is reminiscent of World War I era Ally-Bears mascots which were dressed in the uniform of the allied forces. Hamish will be on display when the new Museum opens, along with many other fascinating exhibits. 10.01.2022 Congratulations to our Belmonster Competition winner, Marley from Cloverdale! As part of the launch of our new community centre, Belmont Hub, children were invited to submit their own Belmonster to build on the existing series of characters. The City’s friendly Belmonsters were created as part of a collaborative partnership between the City of Belmont, local community members, author Bailey Bosch and illustrator Cameron Aitkenhead resulting in the City’s first children’s book... - The Adventures of the Belmonsters. A second book The Belmonster and the Bear was launched last year and both are available for sale from The Shop in Belmont Hub. Marley described his winning design as a fit, happy and healthy monster. He buys and eats fruit from Belmont Forum, he skates at the Belmont Skate Park, reads books from the library and loves living all over Belmont. He likes using the cross walks and keeping fit. Congratulations are also extended to the competition runners-up, Louise and Kirrali, for their Belmonsters Kaybear and Jerry!

05.01.2022 The latest #HubHype whats coming to the Museum! In 2012 the remnants of a 19th Century convict built road made of 300 year old jarrah discs was uncovered buried under what is now Great Eastern Highway. Since that time the City has been assisted by Dr Ian MacLeod in conserving the historic cheese-like shape wooden discs. They have now found their forever home in the new Belmont Museums state-of-the-art climate controlled display at Belmont Hub. Keep an eye on our socials for more exciting behind-the-scenes stories!

03.01.2022 Be snake aware! As we move towards the warmer months snakes will be on the move as they emerge to bask in the sun. Please remember not to take any risks if you see a snake and do not approach or aggravate it in any way. Most bites occur when people accidentally step on snakes or if they attempt to kill them. If you find a snake in your garden or house please contact the Wildcare Helpline on 9474 9055 to be referred to a volunteer reptile remover.... If you see a snake in a park or reserve, please contact the City of Belmont Parks and Environment Department on 9477 7257.

If you’re aged 12-16, come along from 5:30pm 7:30pm at the Belmont Forum car park near Dome café for a meet and greet with some of the Perth Redbacks NBL1 Players! There will also be prizes and giveaways in addition to food from Belmont Forum and a chill out zone with City of Belmont Youth Services. This City of Belmont initiative has been developed thanks to grant funding from Western Australia Police Force and is delivered in partnership with City of Belmont Youth Services, YMCA WA, Belmont Forum, Perth Redbacks and the Western Australia Police Force.
