25.01.2022 The anxious wait is finally over for thousands of Geelong students who received their VCE results this morning. And Belmont High School vice-captain Jesse Hasell is elated

25.01.2022 Dear parents, carers, students and staff, Yesterday, the Victorian Government announced that, on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, regional and rural Victoria will move to Stage 3 restrictions to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). The changes to schools’ operations will come into effect from Wednesday 5th August, following a student free day on Tuesday 4th August, and are likely to apply until the end of Term 3. As outlined in the Chief Health Officer’...s advice on Friday, schools remain safe places for staff and students but these steps are critical measures to reduce the movement of students and families across the state. There are implications for our school, and for families in our school community. A summary of what the changes mean for Belmont High School is below. RURAL AND REGIONAL VICTORIA PREP TO YEAR 10 Prep to Year 10 students will move to remote and flexible learning. On-site supervision in rural and regional Victoria will be available to: o Children whose parents cannot work from home o Vulnerable children o Any child with a disability SENIOR SECONDARY YEAR 11 AND 12 (VCE AND VCAL) All Year 11 and 12 provision for both VCE and VCAL will move to remote and flexible learning. The GAT will be rescheduled from Wednesday 9th September to Wednesday 7th October. The schedule for the VCE examinations and release of results will remain as previously advised. Further information about consideration of disadvantage and coronavirus (COVID-19) will be provided shortly. TIMELINE Monday 3rd August will be a ‘normal’ day of school under current arrangements, with students attending on site learning asked to take all their necessary learning materials home. Tuesday 4th August will be a student-free day across Victoria to enable teachers, especially in rural and regional Victoria, to prepare for flexible and remote learning. Wednesday 5th August will be the first day of the remote and flexible learning arrangements for schools across Victoria This is a day ahead of the state-wide introduction of the Stage 3 restrictions in rural and regional Victoria, but will provide for a smooth transition and will enable as much continuity of learning as possible. I will provide an update soon about arrangements for on site supervision at our school. I remind you that masks/face coverings must be worn by all students’ tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding and support. Kind regards Sandra Eglezos Principal Belmont High School

22.01.2022 A big thank you to students and families for attending the GDay USA picnic last night (20/11). A group of 18 BHS students and 2 staff members will be travelling to California and Arizona for three weeks during the summer holidays. The trip will include a homestay and students will get the opportunity to attend school in Mesa. We wish them a safe journey!

22.01.2022 1st August 2020 Dear Parents, Carers and Students, Based on advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government announced that compulsory wearing of face coverings will extend to all of Victoria from 11.59pm on Sunday 2 August. This means everyone over the age of 12 must wear a face covering when they leave their home.... All Belmont High School students MUST wear an adequate face covering/mask to school from this Monday 3rd August. This includes when travelling to and from school, unless they are travelling alone in a vehicle or with members of their household. Students that do not have adequate mask/face covering will be excluded from school. Behaviour whereby a student purposely uses their face mask incorrectly, intermittently, or interferes with another individual’s face mask, will not be tolerated. Parents/carers will be contacted to collect students immediately in the above instances. The school will not be providing face masks to students. For instructions on how to safely wear a face covering, I encourage you and your child/ren to view the clip in this link from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-masks-and-coverings-covid- Teachers and education support staff will not be required to wear face masks/coverings while teaching, but those who wish to do so, can. Teachers should wear face masks/coverings in other areas of the school when not teaching (for example, in the staffroom, on yard duty and when providing first aid), and when travelling to and from school. Some students and staff may be exempt from these requirements. This includes students or staff who have a medical condition - including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition. If you feel this exemption applies to your child, you must contact the school for further discussion and details. I also remind parents and carers that we ask you not to enter the school or general office area. Please phone reception on 5243 5355 and our office staff will assist you with your enquiry. The Department’s coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, call 1800 338 663. For school information in your language, call TIS National on 131 450. Please ask them to call the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663 and they will help interpret. For more information about coronavirus (COVID-19), please visit the DHHS website. Thank you for your ongoing support. Kind regards, Sandra Eglezos Principal Belmont High School

19.01.2022 Dear Students, Parents and Guardians, As you may be aware there has been issues with Compass today which has resulted in students not being able to log in. These issues are on a global level and are currently being investigated by the Compass team. We are currently waiting on further advice. We ask that you reframe from contacting the general office via phone or email in regards to Compass connection issues at present due to reduced staffing on site. We appreciate your patience and will update you once we have further information.

14.01.2022 Dear parents and carers and students, Our school has been advised of further reported cases of coronavirus (COVID-19). This case has been reported to the Department of Education and Training (DET), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is currently undertaking further investigation.... As a precautionary measure, Belmont High School will be closed once again for 24 hours initially, or until we receive advice it can re-open. The school will be closed to all students, staff and members of the community. During the initial closure period, all students and staff must remain at home while DHHS undertakes contact tracing. This includes limiting movements to home-based activities and not attending public places. We will provide further information following confirmation of advice from DHHS. To slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Stage 3 restrictions now apply for regional and rural Victoria and Stage 4 restrictions now apply for metropolitan Melbourne. All schools across Victoria have returned to remote and flexible learning, for all year levels, except for specialist school students in rural and regional Victoria, for the rest of Term 3. Face coverings are compulsory for all Victorians over the age of 12. The exception to this is students over the age of 12 attending primary school, who are not required to wear a face covering while at school. Further information on the use of face coverings in schools can be found on the DHHS website. I am very aware that this is a time of heightened anxiety for us all. The people best placed to answer your questions are the DET staff who are supporting us. You can contact them on the coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663, 8am to 6pm, seven days a week. For school information in your language, call TIS National on 131 450. Please ask them to call the DET coronavirus (COVID-19) hotline on 1800 338 663 and they will help interpret. 04.01.2022 Dear Belmont High School families This message includes the latest information on school arrangements in response to Victoria’s COVID 19 situation. As you can appreciate, the situation is evolving daily and we intend to send regular messages to keep you fully informed. At this stage no government school is currently closed or in the process of being closed. Please take note of the following information: Schools will remain open for as long as the health authorities advise.... All year 7 camps scheduled for the remainder of the term will be postponed. All excursions outside the school and to Biolab are being cancelled. Open Night has been cancelled. Sporting events such as the Fun Run, Athletics carnival and inter-school sport have been postponed. The student reporting timeline will likely be adjusted, and a decision on how feedback will be provided to families on student progress will be made in the near future. At this stage, parent/student/teacher interviews will not proceed in the usual format. School assemblies are not taking place. The following prevention advice is being reinforced to students daily. Everyone can protect against infections by practising good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene; Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow. Dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards. Wash your hands regularly and before eating, using soap and running water for 20 seconds, drying hands thoroughly using paper towel or hand dryers. Students have been asked to maintain distance from each other where possible and avoid physical contact such as hugging, shaking hands, etc. In the event of school closure, teachers will support students to continue their learning at home through online learning systems. Information about access to learning will be distributed in the event of a school closure. Students will be required to take all of their text books and learning resources home. We are awaiting advice from the VCAA regarding assessment for all students, including VCE and VCAL students. If your child feels unwell or has any flu-like symptoms do not send them to school and contact your doctor. Please notify the school of your child’s absence, and the reason for their absence, so we are able to track this data. If you or a member of your family test positive to COVID 19 please notify the school immediately on 5243 5355. Kind regards Belmont High School Leadership Team
