If youve received any kind of soft tissue treatment chances are youve heard the term Dry Needling SO WHAT IS IT EXACTLY? - Dry needling is an effective therapy, used to treat musculoskeletal complaints, involving the use of very fine acupuncture needles that are inserted into a muscle trigger point... - Trigger points are hyper-irritable points in skeletal muscle with sensitive nodules. otherwise known as a KNOT! - Trigger points can become painful, and may send pain to other sites in predictable pain patterns - The goal of dry needling is to penetrate the tight spot to illicit a twitch response to release muscle tension and pain DOES IT HURT? - The needles are so fine that most patients dont feel insertion of the needle - When the needle penetrates the irritated area it is common to feel a dull ache or tingling - The pain pattern associated with the trigger point may also be reproduced thats how we know weve hit the right spot! ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS? - Dry needling is very safe, with minimal risk if done by a trained practitioner - It is normal to feel some heaviness and aching in the area after treatment, but like massage, this usually only last a day or so - Sometimes needling may leave a small bruise IS IT RIGHT FOR ME? - Dry needling can treat a variety of conditions.
