25.01.2022 Before and after a Dental scale and polish! Proper dental care will help keep your pet from developing a wide variety of dental health issues, such as periodontal disease, which is caused by the build-up of bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria form a film over the teeth called plaque. As the bacteria die, they can become calcified by the calcium in your pets saliva. The calcified plaque is called tartar, and it can eventually lead to gingivitis, which can lead to an infection in the root of the tooth. Call us now for your FREE dental check!

24.01.2022 Our patient of the week goes to.... Shinbandi . It has been just over a week since we have seen his handsome face in the clinic! He presented feeling a little under the weather last week.. after doing a physical exam we hospitalised him so we could do further diagnostics as he seemed to have pain in his abdominal region!! . After electing to do radiology on him it was discovered he had severe gas retention... . This could of been caused from food or a foreign body! . He stayed at the clinic with us for a couple days, after further nursing care and medication he was finally able to pass faeces normally and was back to his bright self and keen to get back home with mum and dad!!! We are so glad he is feeling better! #patientoftheweek #ridgeback #vetmed See more

23.01.2022 Patient of the week goes to MISS LULU Lulu came in for an Enucleation surgery!!! She initially presented a few months ago with a very sore eye ... It was extremely red and inflamed!! She had already previously had an ulcer in the same eye and after extensive treatment and vet visits it was elected that we had to remove her right eye completely. This was quite an invasive surgery for little Lulu but she was very brave and is on the mend, recovering nicely.. Follow this post for further updates and pictures on her road to recovery! #eyesurgery #patientoftheweek

22.01.2022 Our Patient of the week goes to... Penny! . Penny presented after a dog attack at her local doggo park. She was very sore and scared on arrival! . As soon as she arrived she was given a physical examination and some pain relief. She was then admitted in for a hospital stay to get X-rays so we could further investigate any possible damage.... . Thankfully everything came back all clear! Penny was vey brave as getting x-rays for a little puppy is not fun!! . Our Vet Nurses were more than happy to give some extra cuddles and love to make her time at the clinic more enjoyable!! . Every doggo loves to play, and ensuring your dog has social time is one of the best enrichments tools you can offer them! But please be mindful when you go to a dog park to pay extra attention to the play styles of other dogs have. Like humans, each dog has their own personailty! Some are extrovert some are introvert!! Some dogs love to zoom around, other dogs like to chill out!! Unfortunatley with dogs the rule Your vibe attracts your tribe isnt always the case! It is up to us humans to keep all play time appropiate and safe! #caninebehaviour #doggos #patientofweek See more

21.01.2022 Teddy came into the Clinic a couple weeks ago for a standard consultation and vaccinations. Dr Stephanie noticed when listening to his heart she could hear a Murmur. Teddy was booked in straight away for an ultrasound of his heart (Echo). An Echocardiogram, also known as an echo or cardiac ultrasound, is a diagnostic tool for looking closely at the heart as well as inside and around it. An echo uses high frequency sound waves to create live images, allowing veterinarians to ...get an idea of what the heart looks like and how it is functioning in real time. The echo can show if the heart is working properly, and if not, what the problem is. Medications and treatments for heart disease are tailored to the individual, so understanding the problem correctly helps provide the best treatment. Echocardiograms can also be used to determine if treatments are helping or if a change in dosage or new medications are required. See more

17.01.2022 We often take care of our own teeth by visiting the dentist for a 6 monthly scale and polish in the chair. Did you know that we should be doing the same thing for our pets? Of course, our pets dont understand that we want them to sit in the chair and hold their mouth open whilst staying very still. This is why our pets need an anaesthetic when we perform a dental scale and polish for them. A prophylactic dental scale and polish is recommended to prevent periodontal disease... something which affects 80% of cats and dogs over three years of age. If periodontal disease is present, it is essential that dental treatment is performed to treat painful gingivitis and remove any teeth which could be a source of pain. It is important to remember that our pets age up to seven times as fast us humans do, so your pet having a scale and polish once a year is really the equivalent to us having a dental check once every seven years. 12.01.2022 Tick season is here! Do you know what a paralysis tick looks like? Tick paralysis is a potentially fatal disease and the prognosis is guarded and dependent on the severity of signs. The earlier the treatment with tick antiserum, the greater the prognosis.... The best way to prevent tick paralysis is to use tick control products (eg. Bravecto, Nexgard) and thoroughly checking pets daily and removing any ticks. This could save your fur babys life!

05.01.2022 REMEMBER YOUR PETS OVER NEW YEARS!! . Pets, especially dogs, can get very frightened from loud noises like FIREWORKS!. . New years can be very difficult for dog owners due to the firework celebrations... . Here are some precautions you can take and tips to keep in mind to make sure your pets is protected during the fireworks! . 1. Dogs are known to jump and try to escape when there are fireworks happening. Many dogs have fled their homes or owner's arms during New Years Celebrations. To avoid this, keep your dog in the quiet indoors! . 2. Leave your pet in the home of a friend or a pet sitter if you plan on heading out. If your pet isn't familiar with this place. Get a pet sitter to come to your place! . 3. Make sure your pet's microchip is up to date, or (at least) make sure your dog has a pet ID tag. Since many dogs run away out of fear, taking precautions could make sure your dog gets back to your home. Pet shelters are always finding runaway dogs on this holiday, so make sure your dog has proper identification. . 4. If your dog often gets extremely upset at loud noises like thunder, talk to the vet and consider anxiety medication! This is a great way to help keep your dog calm. . 5. Dogs often bite and chew on things out of fear, so remove any important or dangerous items from your home that your dog could potentially bite. . 6. If you lose your dog or find another dog, take them to your local vet to get them microchip checked. . 7. Don't let your dog outside without a leash this weekend. They are likely to bolt from the noise, so keep them on a leash at all times. . 8. Thunder Jackets . 9. Over the counter natural medications such as Adaptil, Feliway and Zylkene . Call your vet today for any further advice! #newyearseve #fireworks #protectyourpet

01.01.2022 Our patient of the week goes to...... Mr. Red Hope!!! . Red arrived at our clinic in a critical condition. He was seizuring and hypersalivating and had no control of his movements! . It was suspected by his owner that he had ingested a cane toad as Red was known to be a serial toad chaser and was displaying all symptoms that would indicate cane toad toxicity. ... . He was rushed straight out to the back into our treatment room and treated accordingly by our amazing team! . Cane toad poisoning in pets can be VERY serious and potentially a FATAL occurrence! If you suspect your animal has ingested or licked a cane toad please take them to a vet IMMEDIATELY! . On the way to the vet you can wipe your pets mouth out with a damp clean cloth. . Don't put hoses down your pets throat as this could cause more damage than benefit, just continue to wipe your dog’s mouth out with clean damp cloths until you arrive at the vet clinic. If possible call the vet first to let them know you are arriving so they can be prepared. But if it is not possible to contact them in a timely matter, do not panic just go directly there!! This time Red was very lucky! Red is now at home recovering with his mummy and keeping well away from any jumping toxic amphibians!!
