20.01.2022 belong was proud to host our first Positive Mental Health Day last Friday, organised by our wonderful training team, and supported by the words and insights of some amazing guest speakers representing organisations focussed on promoting mental wellbeing in the community! Our audience included many current participants from our various employment training programs. We hope all you guys managed to take away some supportive and inspiring lessons! Speakers included Bob and John (...PAWS Hope and Understanding Inc, who provide task-trained dogs to Australian veterans and emergency services workers affected by PTSD), Nikki (headspace, fabulous mental health service for young people), Fab (Accoras, focussed on providing early intervention mental health support), and Demi (Drug ARM, focussed on awareness, rehabilitation and maintenance surrounding addiction recovery). The program prepares people to provide specialised support in school settings, particularly to kids and their families from culturally and linguistically diverse background. 07.01.2022 It’s lovely when we experience the fruits of our positive karma this time in Avocado form! Eric Htoo was a star graduate in our recent Conservation and Land Management project based at Dogs Queensland in Durack. He now works on an avocado farm in Esk where he commutes every day from Brisbane a big change in lifestyle for the former refugee from Burma who grew up in a Thai refugee camp. Now proudly supporting his family through hard work, Eric dropped in today to share with us his appreciation for the traineeship experience a box of avocados for belong staff, and a second box for our Food Cooperative to be enjoyed by community members in need. Thanks Eric, all this is your good Karma too. What a nice story to start the week with!!
