25.01.2022 Blisters are painful, fluid-filled lesions produced by friction and pressure and can be caused by things like badly fitting footwear, stiff shoes, or excessive moisture. There are a number of simple things you can do to help prevent your walking, running or social activity being ruined by a blister. Keep your feet dry and toenails trimmed, wear socks of the right size and comfortable, good fitting footwear. Make sure the tongue and laces of your shoes are arranged correctly ...and evenly and if you do get a foreign object in your shoe e.g. small rock, make sure you remove it straight away. If you do get a blister, the best advice is not to pop it. Cushion the blister as best you can and keep it clean to prevent infection. Most foot blisters last between 3 and 7 days and clear up by themselves. However if you have diabetes, poor circulation or it has not healed or causes extreme pain you should see a podiatrist like Karen here at Belreigh Podiatry to make sure its managed properly. #blisters #footblisters #preventingblisters #treatingblisters #podiatrist #podiatry #foot #feet #ankle #legs #alliedhealth #health #medicare #dva #privatehealth #foothealth #footpain #heelpain #PlantarFasciitis #walking #running #jogging #painfree #healthyfeet #strongfeet #diabetes #local #caring #kempsey #belreighpodiatry See more

20.01.2022 We often overlook socks but they are important in helping maintain the health of your feet. If youve ever stood in front of the sock section in your local department store, you can easily be overwhelmed by the choices available. Here are some tips on what to look for when buying socks. Look for natural fibres, cotton, wool or blends that enable airflow and allow the feet to breathe. This assists in reducing the growth of bacteria and fungus. Avoid nylon socks as they do not ...allow for airflow. There should be no seams on the inside of the socks or stockings, this helps reduce rubbing that can cause corns, callus or ulcers. Avoid tight elastic bands at the top of the sock. Make sure the fit is correct not too small but not too large to avoid slippage. Padded soles can help protect the underside of the foot. Depending on your feet, you may need more specialised socks and this is where your podiatrist can help. Book in to have a foot health check with Karen at Belreigh Podiatry to keep your feet in tip top condition. #socks #stockings #footcare #maketherightchoice #gettherightfit #footwear #podiatrist #podiatry #foot #feet #ankle #legs #alliedhealth #health #medicare #dva #privatehealth #foothealth #footpain #heelpain #PlantarFasciitis #walking #running #jogging #painfree #healthyfeet #strongfeet #diabetes #local #caring #kempsey #belreighpodiatry See more

18.01.2022 Helping with Drop Foot Drop Foot is a muscular weakness or paralysis that makes it difficult to lift the front part of your foot and toes and greatly increases your risk of falls. A correctly fitted Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) or Leg Brace helps prevent the foot from dragging and can help prevent falls. Apart from the traditional Solid AFO we also prescribe the Ritchie Brace which provides the best in fit and comfort. You can see in the video how effective the Ritchie Brace i...s at helping with drop foot while being comfortable and easy to wear. If you suffer from drop foot or any other ankle or foot condition, make an appointment to see Karen at Belreigh Podiatry to help reduce the risk of falls and improve your quality of life. #dropfoot #injury #stroke #medical #footconditions #footproblems #falls #risk #fallsrisk #legbrace #afo #anklefootorthosis #ritchiebrace #ankle #foot #feet #podiatry #alliedhealth #podiatrist #caring #local #kempsey #belreighpodiatry See more

17.01.2022 The festive season is here and between the mad shopping rush, Christmas parties and family gatherings - our feet often get overlooked. Here are some tips to look after your "Mistle-toes". Moisturise your feet - Apply moisturiser to the soles and tops of your feet but avoid applying between your toes as this can lead to fungal infection. Put your feet up - Standing for long periods and warm weather can cause swelling in your feet and ankles. Elevate your legs above the lev...el of your heart to reduce swelling. Vary your shoes If you are wearing heels more often during the season, switch between higher and lower heeled shoes. Instead of stilettos, try wedges or block heels and wear supportive sandals and shoes when you can for better support. Be sun smart Make sure you apply sunscreen to your feet when at the beach or outdoors as they can be prone to skin cancers and are often overlooked. #christmasfeetsurvival #christmasshopping #footcare #podiatrist #podiatry #foot #feet #ankle #legs #alliedhealth #health #medicare #dva #privatehealth #foothealth #footpain #heelpain #PlantarFasciitis #walking #running #jogging #painfree #healthyfeet #strongfeet #diabetes #local #caring #kempsey #belreighpodiatry See more

15.01.2022 The humble thong Thongs are an iconic part of Australian summer footwear and while they are convenient, they can put you at risk of developing foot problems as they dont have the necessary support in the arch area of the foot. Thongs do have their place though preventing burns from hot sand at the beach and fungal infections at the pool but use them sparingly to prevent foot problems. Foot injuries While going barefoot outside in the summer might seem like a plan, ...it often leads to punctures and cuts. Always wear covered footwear outside. If youre doing any water activities like canoeing or kayaking, wear water shoes to protect your feet from rocky river beds and shores. If you do injure your foot, consult a healthcare professional immediately. If you have diabetes, make sure you get any injury (no matter how small) checked. Sunscreen We usually remember to Slip, Slop, Slap but make sure to Slap some on your feet and toes as well. They can easily get burned in the summer sun and this can increase your risk of skin cancer. Simple steps to keep your feet healthy this summer helps not only to avoid foot problems, it makes sure you dont miss out on any fun summer activities too. #summerfootcare #footcaretips #footcare #podiatrist #podiatry #foot #feet #ankle #legs #alliedhealth #health #medicare #dva #privatehealth #foothealth #footpain #heelpain #PlantarFasciitis #walking #running #jogging #painfree #healthyfeet #strongfeet #diabetes #local #caring #kempsey #belreighpodiatry See more

14.01.2022 Moisturisers: what should I use on my feet? Most readily available moisturisers are suitable for feet. If you have very dry skin, then a Heel Balm containing urea will retain more moisture. Urea content can vary from 15% to 25%. Do not apply urea creams to open cuts or bleeding cracks. Regular moisturizing will prevent dry, cracked skin and reduce skin tears if applied to the legs and arms. Apply to the whole foot except between the toes.

13.01.2022 Summer = sweaty feet? If you suffer from sweaty feet, there are a number of things you can do. Avoid wearing synthetics. Wear leather shoes or sandals. Socks should be made from a high percentage of wool, cotton or bamboo, all natural fibres that let your feet breathe. Avoid stockings. There are also some antiperspirant products designed to reduce perspiration of the feet. Odour is caused by bacteria building up, so washing well once or twice daily will help.
