22.01.2022 We are looking a bit like Bertie after today’s heat! And according to NSW weather reports we are going to experience more days like this over the coming week & of course throughout December & January. Our advice to keep your pet safe this Summer is, 1. Have a cool and well ventilated area for your pet. Ideally have your pet inside but always allow access to shade if living outside. 2. Avoid exercising your pet towards the middle of the day. First thing in the morning or la...ter in the evening is best. 3. Ensure access to fresh water is available at all times for your pet. 4. Do not leave pets in cars. Rabbits and Guinea Pigs are very sensitive to heat. If possible move their enclosure inside and place an ice brick in one corner for them to sit near if needed. Check them regularly. Signs of heat stress can be, - Excessive panting and/or drooling - Increased heart & respiratory rate - Very red or very pale gums - Dizziness, staggering and/or episodes of collapse. - Muscle tremors and/or seizures. Of course if you are worried about your pet, we are here to help, please call on 9452-3155 or come see us in clinic.

20.01.2022 The face of regret after eating kebabs ... skewers included Poor Odin got more than he bargained for when he jumped up onto the counter and ate some delicious lamb kebabs. He didnt know you arent meant to eat the skewers. X-rays by Dr Emily revealed they werent chewed up, instead very likely to get stuck, resulting in Odin needing to have surgery. Odin is now three days post-op and doing well Hopefully he learns his lesson and keeps off the kitchen counter.

15.01.2022 Arthritis injections! Miss Bella came in to see Dr Emily as she didnt quite have the same spring in her step as she used to - including taking longer to lay down & get back up again. This is a common description we hear about pets suffering from joint pain/arthritis. Luckily for Bella, her mum & Dr Emily have started her on a course of injections to promote new cartilage forming and encourage the thickening of her joint fluid to work as a better lubricant. This will provide pain relief and help Bella with her movement. She will receive four, once-weekly injections and then hopefully only need top ups every few months

13.01.2022 COVID-19 Update. To our amazing clients, We hope everyone is doing the best they can during these challenging times. 12.01.2022 Leptospirosis Update. This time last year there was unfortunately an outbreak of Leptospirosis in the inner city, with 7 dogs sadly dying after contracting the bacterial disease. Unfortunately two more cases have been confirmed over the last fortnight. One from Newtown & one from Balmain. Leptospirosis is caused by a bacteria that survives in wet damp areas, and is mostly spread by rats. Dogs (and people) can become infected after coming into close contact with rat urine. Th...e recent outbreak is currently localised and no cases have been reported on the Northern Beaches, although we recommend if you visit these areas with your dog to contact us to discuss getting them vaccinated. We currently have the vaccine in stock. We also recommend to, Be vigilant with avoiding wet areas and water courses, and particularly areas where rats are prevalent. Avoid visiting dog parks in the previously reported areas of concern (Surry Hills, Newtown, Glebe, Balmain Darlinghurst, Redfern & surrounds) Come in for a vet check if your dog shows signs of lethargy, not producing urine, blood in urine, or any signs of jaundice (yellowing of the skin). Like many diseases, the quicker it is picked up the quicker it can be treated and the best chance of a good outcome for your pet! If youre worried or have any questions please dont hesitate to contact us on 9452 3155 for advice.

10.01.2022 Howl-oween & your pet However you are participating in Halloween this year these are our tips to keep your pet safe 1. Escape ArtistRestrict your pets access to the front gate and front door. If it is being frequently opened or is not closed properly your pet may escape. Check your pets ID tag is up to date. 2. Chocolate guzzler Most Halloween candy is not safe for your pet. Keep the treat bags in a high cupboard when you get home to reduce any furry temptation. 3.... Comfortable Costumes If your pet is relaxed enough to tolerate a costume, make sure they are comfortable and do not leave them unattended. There is the potential to ingest, get stuck or overheat in the costume. 4. Decoration Eater Keep the spooky decorations out of your pets reach to avoid any unwanted eaten objects. Wishing all our furry friends a safe and happy evening! We are open to 2pm today. We recommend Northside Emergency, 9452-2933 for any worries you may have this evening. See more

09.01.2022 Senna had her flea and tick medication today! First the packet had to be opened out of sight so she didnt catch on, then the tablet had to be chopped into quarters whilst Kimberley told Senna to wait for her treat in an excited voice! Then stinky canned sardines were used to create meatballs for the tablet to hide in. Finally Senna was protected! Anyone elses pet too smart for their medication!? What are your tips and tricks to getting that tablet to be eaten and not spat out?

They prefer to live in groups of two or more. Much like us! If you are thinking of getting more than one Guinea Pig we recommend choosing a same sex pair or having a chat to our team on 9452 3155 about desexing.

03.01.2022 Miss Millie This big & beautiful girl came to us for a sore leg. Radiographs confirmed Dr John's suspicion of cruciate ligament disease and Millie was operated on by orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Eugene Buffa, at @northsidevetspecialists to repair it last week. Millie is tender but doing well recovering at home

03.01.2022 Loki Had his desexing procedure today and was a very good boy! Loki was slightly non-routine due to having Cryptorchidism. In his case, only one testicle had descended and Dr John needed to locate and remove the remaining one from his abdomen. The reason we do this is that the risk of developing testicular cancer when undesexed is 10x more likely in dogs with Cryptorchidism than in those without. Loki is now back home with his beautiful family recovering from a big day
