23.01.2022 On Saturday I visited Narara Ecovillage on the NSW Central Coast. It has three hemp houses so far and Geoff’s hemp home was open for visitors. The house has 250...mm thick hemp walls and was built by 10 volunteers over 5 days, it has off form unrendered walls on the inside along the east and south walls. The north wall is lightweight clad, but rendered to match he hemp walls. The house achieved an impressive 8.8 stars and has a through the wall (non ducted) heat recovery ventilation system and has a concrete slab on ground with slab edge insulation. It also has double glazed Murray River Gum timber framed windows made by Against the Grain to reduce thermal breaks and meet the BAL 29 bushfire rating. 15.01.2022 This Commercial Hemp build by Belubula Hemp Homes in Hartley Vale in the NSW Blue Mountains near Lithgow, will be used to dry and store organically grown garli...c for Hartley Vale Good Garlic Co., without the use of air conditioning or significant artificial air flow. The hempcrete is ideal for this use. The property is being developed by Dr Michelle Zeibots from the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology (UTS) and incorporates multiple sustainability features including circular economy food production and waste processing, with the aim of using it as a working example of what can be done to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving quality of life and cost effectiveness. The building has been designed by Dick Clarke from Envirotecture, designer of multiple hemp homes and a fellow ISF graduate.

01.01.2022 Hempcrete walls have been fire rated to over 60/60/60 and certified to BAL-40. A 250mm thick hempcrete wall has an insulation R-value of 3.55. It maintains opti...mum humidity, has excellent acoustic properties, absorbs CO2 over its life and is recyclable. The skills for installation of hempcrete can be easily taught and applied, making it perfect for volunteer labour.
