24.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.... "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I dont think I do." "Thats okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often dont feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know youve got someone there for you. And Ill always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." - A.A. Milne Sending loving thoughts to those having a Difficult Day today or any day and we hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you Whos your piglet? #womensupportingwomen #makingadifference

20.01.2022 Soon Seaford locals will be able to take in the full beauty and unique environment of the Kananook Creek area with the formalising of the Kananook Creek Arboret...um plans. These plans have been long discussed with an Arboretum first raised almost 30 years ago as part of the Kananook Creek Management Plan 1992. The site forms part of the Kananook Creek Reserve in Seaford and consists of an area of approximately 3 hectares. The aim of the project is to create a space that both promotes and protects the unique environment of the Kananook Creek Reserve. The project aims to inspire, inform and connect the local community and visitors to this fabulous area. It will gift locals and visitors with architecturally designed spaces to connect with nature. Works will include enhanced visitor information, interpretations and path networks that link to adjacent paths and new recognisable entrances. The project will acknowledge and celebrate the rich history of the Kananook Creek, including representation of Indigenous stories and histories of the site. This project has had passionate representation from the Kananook Creek Association as well as local Councillors Glenn Aitken and Kris Bolam. Who can forget the scenes of Cr Aitken holding court and addressing the gathering of concerned locals from his speech written on no less than a scroll! Councillor Aitken explaining the uniqueness of the area; there are three micro environments all captured in one place which allows a showcase of varying fauna and flora. This can be seen immediately in conjunction with one another In speaking to the project Councillor Bolam has added I would expect the new trail will showcase the best of Seafords flora and fauna Cr Aitken and Cr Bolam have become a formidable team on this issue to drive action after so long. With Cr Bolam securing the necessary funding in an earlier notice of motion. After such a long time it is great to see this project moving forward and we all look forward to exploring the natural beauty of the area. We also need to recognize the selfless work Allan and his wife Yvonne Sissons have contributed to the Creek and to the community over the years as well as ensuring this project would be compete. Vonne is remembered by the KCA community for her outstanding work, wonderful sense of humour and generosity and kindness. Would you like to get involved? 07.01.2022 #NAIDOCWeek2020: Always Was, Always Will Be This week, 8 to 15 November, communities across #Australia will come together to celebrate NAIDOC week, which honour...s the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The NAIDOC Week theme for 2020 is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be,’ which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Our Reconciliation Officer, Grant Lea believes NAIDOC Week is an important part of recognising the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This is special to me as it recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been here for a long time and we have made significant contributions to this country, and we will continue to do so, Grant says. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. More information about the very interesting history of NAIDOC can be accessed on the NAIDOC website. This year we are proud to celebrate the rich and vibrant culture of the Bunurong people through a number of events, including: Frankston Youth Service - Aboriginal Art Online Workshop Tuesday 10 November, 46pm, via Zoom, limited spaces available, registration essential A creative afternoon facilitated by Nina Turner, a proud Aboriginal woman from Kokatha mob in South Australia. You will be provided with a small art kit to assist Frankston City Libraries - Indigenous Infusion Wednesday 11 November, 2pm, via Zoom, FREE Please join us to celebrate NAIDOC week with Noonuccal man, Elder and culture worker, Gene Blow. Gene has more than 20 years of experience teaching and sharing Indigenous culture and history with both adults and children alike. To book for either session visit: https://bit.ly/3k0bbpr We are committed to working with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and Traditional Owners, and have developed a Reconciliation Action Plan in partnership with the community. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCweek #FrankstonCity
