24.01.2022 Hi all. I have not posted for a while but feel I have to now. I have received quite a few queries about the "new Qld/Federal government rebate schemes" One is copied as a picture below. Some even have a picture of the Qld premier and suggests that there is a secret rebate that you don't know about. If you click on these and follow the steps they all do the same. Ask about home ownership, shading, address, email and name. These are solar lead companies and they are getting yo...ur details to call you about solar. The "Government REBATE", and I put this in the comments of one of these adds only to have it removed, does not exist. When you fit a solar system you are able to get STC's or small technology certificates. These are sold to companies as carbon offsets and as such their value varies. Since I have been installing solar these have traded as low as 17 dollars and as high as 38 dollars, approximately. All of these adds say you can get $3700-$3800 off your install costs and knock 60-80% off your bill. The dollar amount is the potential sale price of the STC's, depending on system size, and is the discount your receive. Most people will only see a drop in their bill of 30-50%. Some of these adds say nothing down interest free. It will be solar finance of some sort. Either rent to buy or paid off over a period. Be informed. You have 2 installers in Clermont and others in the surrounding towns. Compare systems of the same quality and check that all the work is included. Panels and inverter, switchboard works, Ergon paperwork a full package. Lastly if they try to tell you that the offer is only good for now while on the phone, or they get pushy, hang up. There have been a dozen of these adds so there are others who want your work. I did search Qld Government solar rebates and found that last year there was a period of interest free loans and grants for solar and batteries. I don't think it is still open. See more
18.01.2022 It has been a while since my last post but this page is about information not plugs for sales. A couple of times over the last 12 months I have been called to air conditioners that have not been working. Investigations showed the units doing "strange things". You would select heat and the AC would run then shut down, or you would try to change fan speeds yet the AC would change from cooling to vent. I was stumped. Thanks to the AC suppliers tech help, we had a solution. WRONG... REMOTE! A lot of air conditioner remotes look the same but are not programmed the same. This means if you use a 3.5kw remote to control a 8.0kw air conditioner it will throw up strange results as set out before. So if your remote controls the air con but does not control it as you think it should, check the remote is correct prior to calling an electrician. It might just save you some time and money. 09.01.2022 Hi all. We have had door knockers in town selling solar again. They might have the best deal ever but take the time to check with the locals. We have 2 business...es in Clermont that offer grid connect solar as well as other options. Check the price, check the quality, check the back up service. Then make a decision based on choices. Don't sign up straight away, understand that if someone engages you unsolicited, you have a cooling off period. Think, be educated about the choices then make a decision. I know I am a vested interest but I want you to make a decision clear of the pressures of in your face marketing. See more
05.01.2022 Today I went to the landfill, once known as the dump, and got a bit of a shock. I dumped a trailer load consisting of 2 wheely bins, an old dishwasher and 2 boxes from air con installs containing the polystyrene and plastic covers that came in the boxes. Before the end of June that load would cost $33.00 dollars. Had I dumped any old de-gassed air conditioners they would have not been charged. Today I paid $50.40 and had I included any condenser units it would have been an ex...tra $10.00 per unit. Our dump is a "deemed" waste recycling centre. deemed means that regardless of load you are assumed to be carrying the maximum load and are charged as such. The only way this will change is if a weigh bridge is installed to charge based on exactly what is unloaded. I raise this as from now on I will have to add a dump fee to any waste I remove from jobs. The way to get around this fee is for me to leave the packaging for the customer to take to the dump. Currently if the customer dumps the packaging and a de-gassed air conditioner they do not get charged. Watch this space as that will change. My understanding is that the increase is from a state waste levy that was implemented as of July 1. Levy, a bit like Clayton's the drink, a tax when you are not having a tax! See more
02.01.2022 Anyone who has lost WIN tv should be able to tune it in now. I have just received a call from the station tech and tuned my tv in and WIN is back.
