23.01.2022 HOME | As a self confessed homebody I love nothing more than rearranging my furniture, cooking up a storm and styling my home to reflect my life and personality. I’ve learnt everything from what to look for with window treatments, how to work out my personal style and how to make homemade spray and wipe with 3 ingredients. MARG. 21.01.2022 Where on earth does an interior designer find products and materials for your homes? The answer is trade fairs! Trade fairs like Denfair (@denfair) are held in convention centres for thousands of people to see the latest offerings from local and some international suppliers. The beauty is we see a lot in one space, the downside is these kinds of event are too big to be held this year. Needless to say we will be hanging out for them to reopen again, if only so I can go ...and squish myself into this love seat by @makerandson In the meantime if you’d like to keep in touch with new suppliers, products and materials I am researching, subscribe to my monthly newsletter via my website. 20.01.2022 ISCD STUDENTS - a little social proof to you that your educators are pals in real life. Thank you to Michael for popping by to do some heavy lifting for me at the Paddo Pad (but really we are just posing for a photo ). Michael and I met while teaching online for @iscdeducation and quickly discovered we’d both studied Architecture before realising we had a passion for the smaller details of interiors. We also recognised that styling and colour were sticking points for us ...but are constantly practicing these skills which has been made easier by having talented colleagues! For a full behind the scenes of this styling projects, subscribe to my website and look out for October’s MARG. Monday coming in a few weeks. RENOVATE ART HOME

20.01.2022 Erin Morgan textile artist (of the year) A few months ago Erin kindly agreed to work on a commission for the Paddo Pad. Last week Erin came to help me install them and holy moly they are even more amazing in real life (if that’s possible). The works are made from a combination of traditional painting layered with silks and painted fabric to create a unique artwork that will be loved for many years to come.... HANGING TIP the centre of the artworks hang at 1.5m from the ground to allow the viewer to see them at eye height. For more tips on how to hang your artworks with confidence and a chat with Erin about commissioning artworks jump over to my website (link in bio). #MARGnificent

18.01.2022 Anyone with some spare pocket money?!

17.01.2022 Emily’s work is high quality, she has an eye for detail and is so flexible. Hoping to deliver the same results for this next project. On the weekend I met some old clients for a new project in Central West NSW. This Grand Old Lady looks to be over 100 years old and constructed from the traditional wattle and daub method. In a series of more recent additions the house has been entirely glad in asbestos sheeting and there is a small lean to kitchen and bathroom. Much to d...o! Subscribe to my email list for my upcoming run down of what I found on site as well as the second wattle and daub house I found in not such great shape. @ Comte de Cabonne See more

14.01.2022 It's often believed that you need to fill every single blank wall in your house to make it complete. Or even that buying something cheap from a chain store is the only option you have for buying art within your budget. In fact, I know sometimes people feeling paralysed by the choices out there that they often don’t do anything at all. ... Do you guess where an artwork is hung without any real certainty? You're not alone. I was stuck doing/thinking these things too. Until I realised exactly how to choose artworks and hang them with absolute certainty AND do so on an assistant’s salary. It’s much more straight forward than you might think. I'm going to be sharing step by stephow you can buy your own timeless art to make your house into a hometoo in the free webinar I'm running. Sign up via the link in my bio. by Evi O... this was my first adult piece of art, bought from Saint Cloche gallery. @saint_cloche @evi_o

13.01.2022 After completing my architecture and interior design studies I took a job as an EA to one of Sydney’s best art consultants. We worked on private client and boutique hotel art collections. I started assisting with the hanging of client’s collections with NO idea of the names of half the artists and no idea how to hang art. We were dealing with price tags in the 10s and 100s of thousands and it was feeling impossible to me that I would find something that told a story to me and... was within my budget. Fast forward 5 years and I’m teaching interior design and working with my own private interior design clients. From the beginning my clients and students alike were asking me to help them choose art. Art is such a personal decision so I found it difficult to know how I could do this for clients. Since then I’ve developed some foolproof steps that allow me to guide clients through their art choices so they can buy works they will love for years not months. Join my free webinars as I share my step by step guide for buying timeless art that tells a story (without breaking your budget). Webinar link in my bio, first one is at 10am tomorrow (Friday 2nd). #besmartwithyourart #TheArtBuyersCourse

12.01.2022 RENOVATE How good is the smell of saw dust or angle grinders on a building site? Floor plans are one of my favourite parts of a renovation process. It’s a puzzle that needs to be solved to make the most of an existing space. Working on older homes gives me the opportunity to create a beautiful connection between old and new. I’ve learnt a lot about materials, spatial planning and what to look for in the renovation process to make sure no mistakes are built. I’ve got a Flo...orplan 101 guide available on my website to get a little preview. MARG. Mondays is the culmination of almost 8years of using Mondays to research, explore and learn new things. 11.01.2022 Let’s talk about floor plans! Floor plans are technical drawings that will accurately document the design of your space. If you aren’t used to reading them they might not mean much to you. Floor plans evolve from rough and sketchy in the early stages of design to the more refined version your builder will work with. The above sketch is from the very early design stages of a worker’s cottage in Flemington. This sketch is really only for me to work out if my clients... have everything they needed and what changes we needed to make. The final version was a lot slicker. Swipe to have a look! What are the biggest issues you’ve had with floor plans?! Let me know below. If you’d like some assistance with your floor plans, get my free Floor Planning 101 checklist here: http://www.marg.studio/fp101 See more

02.01.2022 Hanging artwork in a bedroom... is your instinct to hang your work over your bed head? You’re not alone BUT how will you admire your precious purchase when you are lying in bed scrolling on Instagram?! You’re not! Art tip #8346 Find opportunity in blank walls that can be seen from bed so you can appreciate the work everyday. ... Hanging a work over a bed also makes it near impossible to hang the work according to my no#1 art hanging rule (art centre at 1500mm above the ground). Photography by @sherimcmahonphoto of The Paddo Pad (new photos finally up on my website). Be smart with your art.

02.01.2022 MATERIAL SELECTION.... send help! Hands up who has selected materials for a renovation. Do you start with the flooring? What sort of bench top can I have? Does that material match the other ones? ... These are the kinds of questions I get from clients and students alike as they go through the process of material selection. You can go around and around in circles a million times before getting the selection right for your space. Tip #2 - Talk to suppliers! There is no substitute for seeing a material in person to touch and feel a product to know if it’s right for you. Many materials have a great depth of colour or texture that simply can’t be reflected in an image. The image above has a selection of suppliers that could get your started! October’s MARG. Mondays are coming out this coming Monday. Make sure you are in the loop for more ideas on choosing materials, a behind the scenes on a styling photoshoot I’ve just finished and something special coming soon to MARG. Studio. 02.01.2022 ART As a kid my Grandmother (the real MARG(aret)) used to read us a book called Roy and Matilda which is about two mice who explore the paintings at the AGNSW after dark. This was my first introduction to art and I still love walking across the squeaky floors of the permanent collection at the AGNSW where the artworks from this book are. After 3 years working with an art consultant I have learnt a thing or two about how art is bought and hung properly to make the most of... your space. Working as an interior designer my clients have trouble finding art that suits their style, budget and space. MARG. Mondays is the culmination of almost 8years of using Mondays to research, explore and learn new things.
