25.01.2022 Old big stone. Old small stone. Old big timber.

25.01.2022 Pond in action....

24.01.2022 Not strictly speaking Stonework Ill grant you...finishing off a big wood oven with mud bricks. Project was started some years back by my late great friend and mentor Grant Saltmarsh.

23.01.2022 Some before and after shots of a terrace/patio in Central Victoria. This house is 110 years old and has been maintained and repaired in some really funky rustic... ways inside. I was asked to utilise old stone on the property (that originated from a bunch of places) and some free stone tiles the clients had scored from friends. There was no phone signal on this job and for the first few days I had nothing but the breeze and birds for company (then I downloaded some podcasts before the signal dropped out each day). A beautiful site, a fun job. In my top 3 EVER. See more

23.01.2022 In a few weeks I'll return to plant this out with a combination of edible herbs, long flowering perennials and a few other bits and pieces to tease the senses. Sight sound smell earth fire. This fire pit hasn't cooled off in 6 days. Each night the family stoke up the coals and sit around it and chat and catch up. If you'd like to discuss a fire pit or any other design for your place, get in touch. No two jobs are the same...your project will be designed with you, made for you, lived in and enjoyed by YOU. No stone, pardon the pun, left unturned.

23.01.2022 Pre cut bricks, all fit perfectly, OR, require a tiny weeny shave on 1. Love it! Did I say that already??

23.01.2022 A long heavy flagstone gravel infill kind of a day!

23.01.2022 How cold this morning? Frost everywhere. Hose frozen...awaiting defrost. Stone and tools all desperately unpleasant to touch. And yet it is glorious....

22.01.2022 Another project, another load of stone. Harcourt Granite....

20.01.2022 Getting under way with a pizza oven from #melbournefirebrickcompany Its a ripper kit form set up. Heres some progress shots.

19.01.2022 Progress shot...

19.01.2022 Further progress. Ill say it again....awesome kits.

18.01.2022 Look at these beautiful bits of Victorian Harcourt Granite....can you imagine a wall, a (seriously strong) Ashler path, a pond, or fireplace perhaps.

17.01.2022 Day 10 since surgery. Scar healed well. No more pain killers. Feel very good....Im tipping this is the time that many people think bollocks! and return to re...gular activities and screw up the recovery. Well Im not doing that...no Im just going quietly insane... Might have to play with some whittling this week, or something else well Under 10 kg!

15.01.2022 Ill keep banging on about it! Love these oven kits! All wrapped up today pending the arrival of a custom flue. #melbournefirebrickcompany director Ben Guildfor...d....youre a genius. Thanks for being on the phone to answer a few questions. James Fisher thanks for the gig. If you plan to get an outdoor wood oven consider these kits and nothing else. They are superb and can be finished/decorates a billion ways. See more

15.01.2022 Hopefully someone one day will see this rebuild and mistake it for being older than it is. A fun project with old original stones.

14.01.2022 When the first photos of this project went up, it was under a scorching February/March sky...I've seen rain, snow, hail, wind, I've jumped out for about 7 weeks to accomodate other clients, I've picked and placed every stone, and today I grouted all the tops of the masonry block work to put the full stop on. Tomorrow I'll begin paving. Thanks Woody and Kristi for the opportunity. Thanks Paul, Benny, Grubby and Bryce representing Erwin Building Services and being great company on site. The yard will return to its best when the rain eases.

12.01.2022 I couldn't help but notice this. The wet cut saw has a big tray under a sliding platform. When the stone gets cut it drops sediment and chips of stone into the tray and settles along with water. Over night it all froze, and this morning the sun was hitting it at just the right angle to be enchanting. Beautiful!

11.01.2022 Our pozible campaign will open up a world of our high quality instructional video content that teach you how to identify, harvest and prepare delicious meals...using weeds...AMAZING!

11.01.2022 I love working with stone. I love the site of it showing up on a job, or collecting it from fields and abandoned old quarries or buildings. I love the process o...f arranging it to try and achieve something balanced and beautiful. I love the final day of a project, looking at what Ive achieved with my own hands....but most of all I love coming back to it, and watching the way it ages over time. Watching gardens grow around it or people interact with it. Itll be here long after Im gone. I think I can call that a legacy....

09.01.2022 Frosty frosty frosty....how's the stone going to feel? Yeeeeesh!

08.01.2022 Really cant sing the praises loud enough for these oven kits from #melbournefirebrickcompany Theyve thought of everything.

06.01.2022 Things to remember for later.. 1-The rubber drive belt in this hoes rigid in the cold, so it doesn't turn easily, so the saw trips the power box. 2-The water feed tubes on this, if left over night with water inside, freeze solid. Everything in Woodend is cold!

06.01.2022 Come February 8th, Ill have an operation on a small but utterly annoying, potentially much worse hernia. No lifting for 4-6 weeks. SOOOOO....Ill be designing gardens and features and doing general consultations. If you like any of the projects Ive posted over the last few years and feel inspired to move towards something yourself, please contact me through Facebook or 0418145027.... Cheers folks. Bushy

04.01.2022 Returned to a project today to see the plants advancing and flowering. The house had new paint on it. Very pleased with the progress. Plenty of bees doing their thing too.

03.01.2022 It was dark when I topped out on this fireplace tonight. There was also a bit of debris and stuff in the fire box. The interior is complete! The goal/style here... was to create a crisp corner arris on the corner blocks vertical edge and a bit of natural controlled chaos in the guts using natural field stone with minimal/no adjustments to the face or edges. Between starting and completing I had a 6 week pause for surgery/recovery, which in a strange way has given me a huge boost of motivation and renewed enthusiasm for EVERYTHING. When the house gets completed Ill see about getting a better lit professional shot. In the mean time thanks to Fishy and Poodle, the teachers Ive had and the lessons learned along the way. Thanks to my family too for the motivation to get better at life all the time.

03.01.2022 Some progress shots from the start of a courtyard fire pit and stone seats on a radius.

03.01.2022 Tried to post this earlier. Didnt go up. Placed the final piece of stone today. Still have to grout (THE WORST PART) but relieved and happy.

02.01.2022 Taking shape. Courtyard topped out, needs the back topped out.

02.01.2022 What a lot of stone....

02.01.2022 Had planned to wait until this was finished, but Im working on a fireplace. Combination old bluestone blocks and foundation stones/lintels with lots of random field stone. Doing minimal shaping of field stone if any, and leaving the faces unchanged. Cant wait to warm my bum by the fire this winter...from about 5 metres away...

01.01.2022 Ok I can't make this up. The ice in the hose discharging like frozen little butt nuggets. Simple things amuse me....

01.01.2022 New year. New business name. Please hit like if youd like updates on stone projects (the Chisel) and Permaculture/Garden projects (the Hoe).
