Unfortunately this year, due to social distancing and the COVID Safe measures in place, rides around Mount Panorama in the fleet of replica race cars will not be on offer, but there will be free admission for all dads on Sunday 6 September. Weather permitting, some of the Museums cars will be on display outside for that special Fathers Day selfie, and you will also be able to see some of the iconic cars in the upcoming Dick Johnson special exhibition, along with over 110 racing cars and motorcycles from the history of Australian motor sport. The Museum will be open from 9 am to 4:30 pm on the day.

22.01.2022 Group A Icon The latest car to arrive for display at the National Motor Racing Museum is one of the most iconic cars from the Group A era of Australian touring ...car racing, driven by two of the sports legends - the 1990 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, built by Dick Johnson Racing. This car, DJR 6 was the final Sierra built by the team, and was driven by Dick Johnson and John Bowe at Bathurst in 1990 and 1991, and then by Terry Shiel and Greg Crick in 1992. The Museum is excited to announce that our next Special Exhibition to open at the start of October 2020 will look back at 40 years of Dick Johnson Racing, and mark the 40th anniversary of the infamous Rock Incident that destroyed Dicks Tru-Blu XD Falcon while in the lead of the 1980 James Hardie 1000. Our thanks go to the owner of DJR 6, Terry Lawlor for the loan of this fantastic race car, and we cant wait to show you what else will be joining the Sierra in our exhibition! 16.01.2022 Not What You May Have Expected? Although Dick Johnson spent his career flying the Ford flag, he started out in a series of Holdens racing in local events around... Queensland. For his Bathurst 1000 debut in 1973, Dick teamed up with Bob Forbes aboard a Torana GTR XU-1, finishing in 5th place in his first attempt at the big race on Mount Panorama. The latest arrival at the National Motor Racing Museum for our upcoming Dick Johnson Special Exhibition is this replica of Dicks 1973 Bathurst XU-1, representing the early years of his amazing career! 12.01.2022 The Bathurst Rail Museum recorded this week its 10,000 visitors through its doors since the facility opened in February 2020 and recently won the LG NSW Leo Kel...ly OAM Arts and Culture Award for the adaptive reuse of an historic building. The prestigious award celebrates the outstanding achievement by local government organisations in strategic planning for arts and culture. Housed in the historic Railway Institute Building on Havannah Street, the museum explores the stories of Bathursts community and their connection to rail history. The Museum includes social history stories of the importance of rail for NSW, the region and the Bathurst community as well as a 20 by 9 metre HO scale model railway depicting the historic Main West rail line between Tarana and Bathurst. And for kids you asked? How about the largest wooden Brio rail setup in the Southern Hemisphere? There is also a cafe with hot and cold beverages and some snacks for the whole family.

After the NSW railway was connected to Bathurst in 1876 the area became home... to railway workers and their families. 10.01.2022 Two Door Thursday! Every story has to start somewhere, and the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Mount Panorama was notable for a number of important firsts. After d...ipping their toe in the water during the 1968 race, Holden came back with an updated, upgraded Monaro, with the HT GTS 350 and the formation of the Holden Dealer Team, led by former Ford team boss Harry Firth. Also making their debut were two young racers who would make their mark at Bathurst over the next two decades- Allan Moffat and Peter Brock. Today we welcomed in to our displays this fantastic Holden HT Monaro GTS 350, as driven by Des West and Peter Brock to third place in the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500. We thought it only fitting to drag out our replica of the 1968 race-winning HK Monaro GTS 327 to go for a little spin around the track together! This car will be on show for the next 12 months, so make sure you come by and check it out! The National Motor Racing Museum is open from 9am to 4:30pm daily, closed on Tuesdays. 09.01.2022 The Big Reveal! Okay Brock fans - heres the answer! (By the way, some great suggestions, and an excellent amount of lateral thinking happening out there ) O...ur latest arrival, courtesy of our friends at Holden is the 1985 RB Gemini Endurathon car! To create a buzz around the new Gemini, (and a very snazzy 1980s ad that you can find on You Tube...), Holden devised an 80 day endurance event, to simulate some 13 years of normal motoring. Using an early Elizabeth-built Gemini sedan, some 80 drivers drove this car 24 hours a day around Holdens Lang Lang Proving Ground between 17 February 1985 and 7 May, with the final stint being carried out by Peter Brock! The car received its scheduled logbook servicing during the trial, and also had a new fuel filter fitted at 61,000 km, a new headlamp bulb at 155,000 km and a loose electrical connection rectified at 178,000 km, completing an amazing 205,000 km during the test at an average speed of 107.2 km/h, including the time stopped for servicing, refuelling and driver changes! To ensure the safety and comfort of the drivers, the car was fitted with an awesomely 80s fibreglass roo bar, driving lights, a CB radio and a Telecom mobile phone, as well as optional air conditioning and a cassette player! Im sure changing tapes around the high speed banking at Lang Lang was exciting stuff! And not to mention the calm and comfortable brown trim... You may also note that the car has only done about 1500km since 1985 - well let you draw your own conclusions there Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions - it was fun seeing what suggestions came up!

07.01.2022 The highly anticipated 2019 Archibald Prize exhibition is on display at the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery until October 11th and their team is working hard to b...e ready for the grand opening this Saturday. For the first time in many years, BRAG will be one of the lucky hosts of the Archibald Prize Regional Tour, featuring the 2019 submissions for Australias pinnacle accolade for painting and portraiture. Presented by ANZ Australia, the 2019 Archibald Prize is Australias most prestigious and oldest painting prize and is awarded each year at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney. Featuring spectacular portraits of Australian public figures such as Paralympian Dylan Alcott, rugby league star Greg Inglis and musician Megan Washington, it will also include last years winning entry, Tony Costas portrait of fellow artist Liny Lee. The exhibition will also be complemented by the Bathurst Young Archies Competition finalists, featuring entries from local children, and the community photographic portrait exhibition, Pictures of You.
