16.01.2022 Coming to the end of January, I finished up my short Queensland tour with Ben Bell and his crew. We worked on everything from performance horses, stud work, and... your happy hackers! Between storms and mini floods, we managed to get some shop time in. Amazing to see such a big operation work so smoothly, and a bonus to have so much fun shoeing along side the guys as well! Thank you for having me and making sure I made it home, look forward to coming back #kanadakim #farriertravels #funshoeing #queensland #notenoughtimeinaday

11.01.2022 A really quick and dodgy one handed video showing my adjustable bending jig for making hooks and such. The bit of round I bent cold looks like crap but you get the idea how it works. Maybe will help some beginners out there.

10.01.2022 It was looking grim for Moonshine Lady after failing to run out her last 4 races and coming last at her last one Putting her out and getting her xrayed showed... us what was potentially a race ending problem but Ben has worked his magic and in the words of Kolora Lodge, ‘she has never felt so good and relaxed in her work’. thank you Ben she is in her new stable and she will be better than ever. 03.01.2022 What is sickle hocked telling us? A couple of horses today showing sickle hocks, recognisable by a metatarsal angled toward the trunk. Many of my posts have qu...estioned camped under as a compensatory posture and needless to say, sickle hocks very often accompany this. Is this another "conformation" that we should question? One of the jobs today was unusual, it presented with a broken forward HPA despite having negative plantar angles (NPA). However it still presented with the camped under, sickle hocked posture which Mannsman et al. (2010) linked to "long toe, low heels" and NPA. Veterinary investigation found SI inflammation but no suspensory issues which could have been a contributory factor in having NPA with a broken forward HPA. Further information in the captions.
