23.01.2022 Volume and tone pots that crackle, grind or intermittently work may need to be replaced..... Or, old mate on the left which has seen a few too many modifications over the years. Upgrading pots, switches, capacitors, input jacks along with good quality wire can greatly improve tone. Different value caps and pots can also shape your tone to specific needs too!

22.01.2022 A couple of interesting Japanese electrics. The Aria Pro 12 string is such a well made guitar, and so many tone options!.. And a 70's Les Paul Jr copy, a bit rough around the edges but plays great and sounds awesome.

22.01.2022 LOCAL GUITARIST PROFILE #4 ~ Josh DeAraugo *** How old were you when you first started playing guitar? I had a fight with Dad about being left-handed or right-handed when I was real young and decided it was all too hard so didn’t pick it up again for years. ...Continue reading

18.01.2022 This lovely '81 gold Strat with gold hardware was in for a new bone nut and set up. What a great guitar. Kinda reminded me of a certain pair of gold hot pants worn by Kylie Minogue, which I was very grateful the owner of this guitar wasn't wearing when he picked it up. Phew!

17.01.2022 This 1979 Martin D28 has a lot of sentimental value and was in for some much needed tlc... Bridge, binding and scratchplate glued, pickup rewired, action lowered, oiled, new strings & service. What an incredible sounding guitar! An instrument that has been played and loved for 40 years sounds like nothing else.

14.01.2022 Quick little vid to show the difference in tone with the 4 way switch added. The 4th position is noticeably louder. This is a cool mod for any Tele players that want something a bit different. The four switch positions are: 1. Bridge 2. Bridge + Neck (parallel)... 3. Neck 4. Bridge + Neck (series) See more

14.01.2022 This Fender '52 Telecaster reissue had a set up and nifty 4-way switch fitted to give it a wider range of tones. Very cool!

14.01.2022 Another Telecaster project in for a final set up. Ok, let's talk Tele players... Who's your favorite?

12.01.2022 A Fender custom shop '54 reissue Strat. Check out the absolutely stunning bird's eye maple neck.

12.01.2022 Sometimes you have to set aside the vintage Gibson & Fenders for something really special..... I think there's a 'secret star' in all of us.

11.01.2022 Nice to see this Duesenberg back for a service and set up. Such a slick machine! #bling

10.01.2022 This Martin was in for a much needed service and re-string. Lowered the action considerably making it much easier and more enjoyable to play. If you feel like you're wrestling with your acoustic guitar it may need a neck adjustment and the action lowered.

I had lessons with local guitar teachers Jeff Lines and Hank Montfroy. What was the moment, concert, song or album that inspired you to start playing? I grew up surrounded by music, friends and family all playing guitar. There were always guitars in the house. My Dad played and his friends (Ross Ackland, Wayne Asher and others) all played and...Continue reading

05.01.2022 An early Japanese Fender Squire in for some new machine heads and a set up. I've had a few uber expensive custom shop guitars on the bench lately and this one totally holds it's own. Loving that natural wear and tear.

04.01.2022 When you're a famous mandolin player you'll probably need your instrument re-strung, serviced, cleaned and back to you the same day. Play your mandolin, it'll get dirty & you'll get good. That's how it goes kids, simple as that.

02.01.2022 Groovy old Yamaha in for a re-string, service and some work on the electronics.

02.01.2022 LOCAL GUITARIST PROFILE #8 - Ken Richie *** How old were you when you first started playing guitar? I actually started on drums at 12yo. Realised I was just an average drummer and swapped to bass for a short time. My older brother was already playing guitar and I used to sneak in and learn chords on his guitar when he was out. That would have been 14yo....Continue reading

02.01.2022 LOCAL GUITARIST PROFILE #10 - Bass player extraordinaire, Ben Gibbons. *** How old were you when you first started playing guitar? After smashing recorder and being a terrible drummer, I started playing Bass late. I think when I was about 15, probably 91 or 92.... *** What was the moment, concert, song or album that inspired you to start playing? For me, it was when I realised that Math and Music were essentially the same thing. Yep Nerd *** Your first guitar? . . Any story attached to it? . . Do you still own it? My first Bass was an old SG copy that had been converted into a bass. Yep, super short scale and plunky like nothing else. Pretty sure it had been French polished too, you know for tone. *** Who is your all time favorite and/or your most influential guitarist? Les Claypool for weirdness. Jaco for Jaconess. Esperanza Spalding for general awesomeness. Victor Wooten for effortless technique. *** First band you were in? Well, There was CornDog from the very early days (Four Piece Garage band). A few metal bands that I think maybe did one show each and probably didn’t even have names. Captain Nefarious and the Acidic Fish was a memorable one. Clumpy Bogg, Blackthorn Stick, Box, Colonel Vipers Whipstick Band. *** Most guitarists have more than one... Which is your favorite guitar to play? . If you had to pick just one which would it be? I still have my Washburn Bantam 6 string from when I was 16. Still gets used, should probably be retired. G&L L2500 is my go-to workhorse for fretted work. Bertha the pre-world war one Double Bass is also quite the workhorse. Lastly Knuckles made by Finn Mathews in 2008 is a loved instrument but doesn’t really see gigs too much. *** Tell us about your set up... favored string brand, gauges, amps? . Or anything else that comes to mind. DR strings across most basses. Lighter gauge for the fretless side of things. All round wound even on fretless. Feeling the need to get a plunky flat wound bass happening. *** What about pedals? Tell us what you use. Rarely use pedals anymore, but. Bass Big Muff Pi Morely Wah ModTone Enveloper Funk Filter ***:Dream guitar? Marleaux Viva Fretless 5 or Marleaux Contra 6 string Bass Carl Thompson Fodera *** What are you listening to at the moment? Been exploring Stephen Lee Thundercat Bruner lately. Right out of my comfort zone but interesting. Also having a bit of a re-visit of Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band *** You're hosting a dinner party. 7 seats left, who's coming? (Living people please) Les Claypool Kinga Glyk Thundercat David Attenborough Mike Patton Quincy Jones Esperanza Spalding *** Last question... A musical guilty pleasure. A song/album that you love but don't tell anyone about....(until now) Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds.

01.01.2022 New pickups and bridge for this lefty Jazz bass.

01.01.2022 Happy Birthday Keith!
