25.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday thanks to The Bendigo Club - Grant Weeks. Grant grew up on a farm in Colbinabbin where he became a senior premiership player at the age of 15 in 2004. He spent the following two seasons with the Pioneers before playing in the VFL with Bendigo Bombers. Over the next eight years Grant became a household name in Central Victoria with stints at Golden Square, Rochester, multiple Vic Country representative and finishing his career with home club Colbinabbin Football Netball Club. A natural forward with hands like glue and a dead-eye kick, Grant has kicked over 1000 career goals and surpassed a century of goals six times including a Bendigo League record 164 in 2012. Since retiring Grant has given back to the Pioneers program by doing some coaching with our girls side.

23.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday presented by Rising Sun Hotel Bendigo - Joel Selwood. A Bendigo boy, Joel went through the juniors at Kennington Sandhurst. ... Joel impressed as a bottom age player with the Pioneers, making the TAC Cup team of the year and captaining the U18 Australian side in the International Rules series. Despite only playing 6 games in his draft year with the Pioneers, Geelong Cats took Joel with pick 7 in the 2006 draft. It took no time for Joel to adjust to AFL level, winning the rising star award in his first season. Known for his courage, Joel has become a 3x premiership player, 6x All-Australian and has captained Geelong for 9 seasons - a club record (185 games) and closing in on the all-time AFL/VFL record. 22.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday thanks to Moama Bowling Club - Ollie Wines. Ollie was recruited to the Pioneers from Echuca Football Netball Club where his ability to win the contested ball saw Port Adelaide Football Club pounce at pick 7 in the 2012 national draft. Since then Ollie has been a 3x Gavin Wanganeen medalist as the clubs best player under 21, co-captain in 2019 and asserted himself as a premier inside midfielder. Still at only 25 years of age, we will have the pleasure of watching Ollie at the highest level for years to come.

17.01.2022 Congratulations to @cooper.hamilton who today was announced as a squad member of the 2021 Australian AFL academy. Cooper will be coached by Academy coach Tarkyn Lockyer and is a part of a 21 man squad. A number of spots in the Academy have also been left vacant by the AFL with the potential of more players to be added next year once clubs return to training and matches around Australia. 16.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday presented by Dunlop & Pitson Earthmoving - Jack Geary Jack impressed in his time at the Pioneers as an elite running utility. ... Becoming a dominant on-baller with Official Golden Square Football & Netball Club from a young age, Jack has become one of the most widely respected country footballers of the last decade. Jack is a five time premiership player with Golden Square, captained Bendigo’s inter-league side and Vic Country teams, and won the Michelsen Medal as the BFNL best player in 2018. Jack is also a star of the Northern Territory Football League with St Mary’s where he was awarded best on ground in their 2016 grand final triumph. See more

13.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday thanks to JL King & Co - Daniel Harris. Originating from Rushworth Daniel was a promising junior footballer for his local side Rushworth Football/Netball Club Inc before making the move to Bendigo to play for the Pioneers at under 18 level. North Melbourne Football Club selected Daniel with pick 14 in the 2000 National Draft. He received a Rising Star nomination in just his second game and became a key cog in the Kangaroos midfield in his 149 games with the club. He was a member of the Gold Coast Suns inaugural team and finished his career on 160 games and 46 goals.

12.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday presented by National Hotel Complex Bendigo - Ben Duscher. Ben grew up playing for Merbein Football Club and spent 2005 with the Pioneers where he was selected in the U18 Vic Country squad. In 2006 he won a premiership with Balranald and success followed him to Rochester Football Netball Club where he won another flag in 2008. Ben became a stalwart of the VFL captaining Bendigo Gold, Bendigo Bombers & Essendon VFL, the latter two winning club best and fairest awards. Ben returned to Merbein in 2015 and last year added another premiership medal with Irymple Football Netball Club.

As a member of the academy Tara will take part in the induction program in January, have opportunities to train with AFLW clubs and have a high-performance camp and match in July. 08.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday presented by Bendigo Senior Secondary College - Kodi Jacques. Kodi got her first taste of footy with the Pioneers and Bendigo Women’s Football Club before being spotted by recruiters at a Richmond Come and Try Day. On the back of averaging 10 disposals and 5 tackles a game in the VFLW for the Tigers, Kodi earned a spot on Richmond’s inaugural AFLW list. At just 19 years of age Kodi matches it with the best of the AFLW competition where her kicking, tackling and work rate is highly regarded by her coaches.

06.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY #FlashbackFriday thanks to Catch22 Apartments - Jake Stringer. After relocating to Bendigo from Maryborough Jake played under 12’s with Quarry Hill before being aligned with multiple junior sides and gaining senior experience with Eaglehawk Football Netball Club. ... Jake’s memorable moment with the Pioneers was kicking 9.7 in his return match from a horrific leg fracture. The Western Bulldogs went on to select Jake with pick 5 in the 2012 draft. Twice making the AFL under 22 team, his pivotal moment came in 2016 becoming a premiership player, also leading the clubs goal kicking that season. Jake now plays an important role at Essendon Football Club as an impact player in the forward half. See more
