25.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS Friday 29 Jan. St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary is feared to have suffered a broken leg during an intraclub match at training on Friday morning, reports 7NEWS Melbourne’s Tom Browne. Geary is being assessed, with his immediate future under a significant cloud. The 32-year-old re-signed late last year for a 14th season at the Saints.

25.01.2022 Sadly the season opening is to be played behind closed gates, we won't be able to see our beloved Saints take on the Kangaroos in our season opener. So it will be a case of settle into the comfortable armchair and watch from afar. This season there is a lot of competition for positions in the team, whether back line, midfield or forward half. None of the "are we there yet" from you know who, on our travels down just yet or thoughts of those no longer in our ranks - Robyn, Dot..., Elaine, Scott just to name a few. Meanwhile, I'll dream of travelling first class while once again you know who sits back in economy class, with her wonderful stories of football, players and of course netball. The first goal comp will be greatly missed, how many times has Ron won - is it zero in 25 years? Yes this is our 25th season, can you believe it? Wayne and yours truly were amongst the originals, as was Helen, who else? I reckon Elaine was and there must be others as well. See more

21.01.2022 Jack Higgins has traded in his sash for stripes after a deal was confirmed between St Kilda and Richmond Football Clubs earlier today. The contracted Tiger joins the Saints along with pick No. 21 and Richmond's 2021 fourth-round selection. In exchange, Richmond will receive pick No. 17 and the Saints' 2021 second-round selection. A first-round draft pick in the 2017 AFL Draft, the 21-year-old will reunite with former teammate Dan Butler in Season 2021 at RSEA Park, adding to ...the Saints’ small forward and midfield stocks. Head of List Management James Gallagher said Higgins would provide a great deal of spark to St Kilda’s offensive end and gel nicely with the growing group. It’s terrific for us to acquire Jack’s services and add another dynamic mid/forward to our list, Gallagher said. He’s a player with incredible enthusiasm and we’re really excited to see what he can bring in his new colours along with Brad Crouch and Shaun McKernan. As Jack was under contract at Richmond before requesting a trade, it was incumbent on us to facilitate a trade that suited both parties. Higgins, who spent an extended time on the sidelines after undergoing brain surgery in 2019, was excited to start the next stage of his career with St Kilda. It’s amazing to join the Saints next year and I really can’t wait to get started, Higgins said. I grew up barracking for the Saints, so it really is a dream come true to represent the club. I’m really keen to meet my new teammates and be part of the Saints moving forward, because they’re definitely heading somewhere pretty special. Higgins played 43 matches for Richmond after being selected with pick No. 17 at the 2017 National Draft. See more

18.01.2022 Shane Savage’s time at the Saints has come to an end, with the 29-year-old advised that he will not be offered a contract for the 2021 season. Shane was a much-loved member of our club and we’re very sorry to see him go, Head of List Management James Gallagher said. Unfortunately with the reduction in list sizes and the positional make-up of our current list, we’ve made the very difficult call not to offer Shane another contract next year.... His dedication and professionalism has been an asset to this club and we hope this isn’t the end of his footy career. Savage joined the Saints after 56 games at Hawthorn, quickly becoming a popular member of the playing group with his commitment to elite standards and preparation. A calm head in defence, Savage’s powerful run off half-back and penetrating kick became hallmarks of his game. More recently, he played a crucial role as a mentor for emerging defensive trio Hunter Clark, Nick Coffield and Ben Paton. Savage leaves St Kilda with 165 AFL games to his name and a legacy as a highly respected teammate and person.

13.01.2022 Interesting reading from the AFL.com.au website. They have suggested the best 22 for 2021. This report was compiled by Ben Sutton. The big omission is Jarryn Geary, but if everyone is available then the veteran warrior is no longer a walk-up start. The 32-year-old was already squeezed out of the backline this year and while he did have some success as a defensive forward, the Saints now have better attacking options in their front six. Jack Sinclair is another unlucky one to ...miss, but Josh Battle is preferred on the bench given his versatility to play tall and at either end of the ground. Recruits Brad Crouch and Jack Higgins slot straight in, although Crouch will miss the first two games of 2021 through suspension. The midfield is now stacked with plenty of experience, but expect young stars Hunter Clark, Jade Gresham and Higgins to still get plenty of opportunities through the middle. There's still plenty of talent in reserve with the likes of Jack Lonie, Luke Dunstan, Jimmy Webster and Dylan Roberton all waiting in the wings. This is a team that has enough depth to build on this year's return to finals and challenge for a top-four spot in 2021. - Ben Sutton B: Ben Paton, Dougal Howard, Callum Wilkie HB: Nick Coffield, Jake Carlisle, Hunter Clark C: Bradley Hill, Brad Crouch, Dan Hannebery HF: Jade Gresham, Tim Membrey, Jack Billings F: Dan Butler, Max King, Rowan Marshall Foll: Paddy Ryder, Jack Steele, Zak Jones I/C: Seb Ross, Ben Long, Jack Higgins, Josh Battle Emerg: Jarryn Geary, Jack Sinclair, Dean Kent, Shaun McKernan

09.01.2022 Max King might just be the man to bring on our forwards adding some extra height in the next couple of years. Another Jack in the pack with the addition of Jack Bytel. So we need to have success next year to help reduce the disastrous debt that the club now faces, thanks (probably) largely due to the short lived flirtation with Carrum.

09.01.2022 Brad Crouch https://www.saints.com.au//not-just-midfielders-crouch-on-

09.01.2022 It begins. We're off and running for day one of pre-season.

09.01.2022 Richmond's Jack Higgins has officially requested a trade and wants to join St Kilda. Higgins is contracted for 2021 and the Tigers have expressed a preference to retain him. The 21-year-old's manager, Paul Connors, said Higgins requested a trade over the weekend and is in search of more opportunities.

05.01.2022 JAKE CARLISLE this week agreed to a one-year extension at Moorabbin with a games trigger for a second season, but the Saints' tall options are thin beyond that. ST KILDA has inquired with Hawthorn premiership defender James Frawley about the prospect of coming out of retirement. AFL.com.au understands the Saints are looking for additional key defensive support in their tilt for a premiership in 2021.... The Saints have already landed Adelaide free agent Brad Crouch and topped up their forward/ruck stocks with delisted Essendon tall Shaun McKernan. But Frawley's proposed return to the top level would provide ready-made depth behind Dougal Howard, Jake Carlisle, Callum Wilkie and Dylan Roberton. Frawley, 32, retired last month after 100 games for the Hawks, but his announcement came after the club's last game in a sign he was open to going on again. It is believed Hawthorn is aware of the Saints' interest in Frawley. Frawley, who also played 139 games for Melbourne and was named in the 2010 AFL All-Australian team, has a relationship with St Kilda coach Brett Ratten, as well as Saints football department staffer and 2015 premiership teammate Jarryd Roughead. Frawley's late uncle, Danny, captained the Saints for nine seasons and is a member of the club's Hall of Fame. While any move from Frawley would likely come after Thursday's Trade Period deadline, a trade precedent was set with former Hawk Luke Hodge in 2017. Hodge retired after the Hawks' last game in 2017, only to be traded to Brisbane on the final day of that season's Trade Period for a bargain basement deal after a backflip on his plans to retire. Veteran Nathan Brown announced his retirement this year, former Port Adelaide backman Logan Austin was delisted, while 197cm defender Oscar Clavarino remains without a deal for next season. Irishman Darragh Joyce also holds a contract with the Saints until the end of 2021, while Josh Battle (192cm) can play in defence if required.

04.01.2022 Dare Sainter of the Round: Classy Clark goes up a notch The fans have spoken, and Hunter Clark is the Round 8 Dare Iced Coffee Sainter of the Round. Clark was superb across half-back and through the midfield in Saturday night’s resounding triumph over Port Adelaide, notching up 24 disposals (nine contested) and five rebound-50s to guide the Saints to its second win in five days at Adelaide Oval. The 21-year-old emerged in front of onlookers’ eyes as he effortlessly weaved thr...ough heavy midfield congestion and slipped tackles with ease. Alongside Nick Coffield and Ben Paton, the three budding backmen have secured pivotal roles in the defensive end to help spur the Saints’ rise up the ladder. The country kid, the quiet coaster and the 'gross' haircut: The unlikely trio pinning down the Saints’ defence Clark has held down his spot in the senior line-up since Round 13, 2019, and this season sits only behind Callum Wilkie for rebounds (24) and third in effective kicks (57) and intercepts (38). Two votes go to Paddy Ryder, who pieced together a masterful display in the ruck against his old side. The All Australian ruckman delivered premium service to the Saints’ on-ball brigade at stoppages with 29 hit-outs (11 to advantage). See more

03.01.2022 Brad Crouch will officially join St Kilda as a restricted free agent in Season 2021 after Adelaide Football Club decided not to match the Saints’ offer. The 26-year-old joins the Saints on a four-year deal and will enhance the club’s midfield brigade alongside All-Australian Jack Steele, Zak Jones, Jade Gresham, Dan Hannebery and Seb Ross. Adelaide will receive a second-round selection currently pick No. 23 as compensation from the AFL.... Head of List Management James Gallagher said Crouch was an important addition to St Kilda’s midfield for Season 2021 and beyond. It’s a really exciting prospect for our club and supporters to have Brad commit to St Kilda, Gallagher said. Having another high-quality midfielder join our ranks was a target for us heading into this year’s Trade Period, and we’re expecting him to have an immediate impact on our side. - James Gallagher Brad’s a genuine competitor and his ability to win the footy and use it well will greatly complement our midfield. Crouch, who won Adelaide’s best-and-fairest in 2019, said he was excited to start a new chapter at RSEA Park. I’m really looking forward to joining the Saints next year, Crouch said. St Kilda is going in the right direction and I’m stoked to be a part of it next season. I’m determined to gain the trust and confidence of the club, its supporters and my new teammates, and I am confident that my best football is ahead of me at St Kilda. Crouch has played 95 matches for Adelaide since debuting in 2013.
