22.01.2022 Public Health Alert Community members on Brisbane’s southside are asked to remain alert but not alarmed as Queensland records three new cases of novel cor...onavirus (COVID-19). The first case is a 19-year-old woman who tested positive after travelling interstate last week. She is an employee at Parklands Christian College on Brisbane’s southside. Queensland Health is working closely with the school which has temporarily closed until further notice. The second case is a 19-year-old female travel companion. Both cases travelled interstate together last week. It is believed they contracted the virus in Melbourne, Victoria. The third reported case is a known close contact, a 22-year-old woman, who tested positive later today. This individual is an employee of YMCA Chatswood Hills Outside School Hours Care. Queensland Health is working closely with the school and the care centre, both of which have temporarily closed until further notice. 22.01.2022 Thunder Family, We are excited to host the Indigenous Community Basketball League in 2021 at the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre The National Indigenou...s Youth Basketball Program Australia (NIYBPA) organised by Australian Indigenous Basketball is the first of its kind in Australian sporting history, providing a pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the 13-14 age group and commences in 2021. Eligibility: Age Groups: To participate in the ICBL, players must be aged 13 or 14 BEFORE the cut-off date of August 31, 2021. Any player who turns 15 before August 31, 2021 is ineligible to participate. Preference to play in the ICBL will be given to players aged 14 before August 31, 2021 or turning 14 in 2021. Birth certificates will need to be provided and sighted for all participating players. ICBL Competition: February and March 2021 held at Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre National Indigenous Basketball Tournament (NIBT): The ICBL is also a selection tournament for the NIBT on the Gold Coast in April 2021. 22.01.2022 Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre has made the difficult decision to suspend all activity effective immediately. This is a precautionary measure due to recent COVID cases in Logan and players and stadium users potentially having come into contact with COVID contact tracing areas. 19.01.2022 Christian started playing basketball when he was 15 at his school, St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill in NSW. He was originally playing rugby and had to play a s...port in the summer. So he decided to play basketball to keep fit. From there Christian moved back to Brisbane and took a year off basketball to play rugby league. After a rough year he came back to basketball playing for Griffith University and the South West Metro Pirates u21s team. From there, he made the QBL team, and went on to be selected for the Brisbane Bullets Development and Training Squad and Papua New Guinea National Team. He is currently playing for the South West Metro Pirates NBL1 team. I love the friendly nature at BSBL. I was actually really surprised by the atmosphere and excitement from the fans when I first played in the league. For a domestic league, it is really competitive and well run. 04.01.2022 ICYMI: Logan Basketball will have more opportunities to allow the Logan community to play Basketball with the $1.53 million dollar redevelopment of the Shailer ...Park State High School multi-purpose sports hall. The project is being delivered by the state government between Education Queensland and Sport and Recreation Queensland through the Community Use of Schools Program. Construction on the project began last week which will see our Thunder Family access the new facility outside school hours and on weekends. The 5th basketball court added to the Cornubia Park Sports precinct will accomodate our growing membership and alleviate some of the pressure on Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre and Logan City Indoor venue access. Also allowing the Bendigo Cornubia Park Sports Centre to accomodate our growing multi-sport indoor competitions including Australian Futsal Association, Cornubia Park Netball Association and in 2021 Volleyball Queensland Spiker Sports.
