25.01.2022 It's National Grandparents Day. A day dedicated to grandparents to thank them for their love and support and to celebrate everything they do for the community. Carers, child minders, counsellors, peace makers ... their list of 'duties' can be endless. What would we do without them right! This Coronavirus time has been so hard on grandparents not being able to see their families too and staying connected is so vital for mental health. So it's the perfect day to give your grand...parents (or parents) a call and say 'thank you' and just make sure they're going Okay. They will love it! It's also a day to remember grandparents lost and keep them close in your thoughts. #familyiseverything www.bchs.com.au I #BCHS #thereforyou #grandparentsday Help Your Neighbour City of Greater Bendigo

24.01.2022 VALE - Ken Rogers (Elmore) Bendigo Community Health Services would like to pay tribute to our much-loved Elmore Social Support Group member Ken Rogers who passed away at the weekend. Ken volunteered with our Social Support Group for 10 years before becoming a group member for the past four years. ... Our Social Support Group co-ordinator Judy Ryan penned this tribute to honour Ken and all the work he has done for BCHS. "Ken started volunteering for the BCHS Social Support Group in Elmore in 2006," Judy said. "Ken had retired from being a qualified cabinet maker and just moved to the area but still wanted to make a difference with what he knew how to do best. At the time the Social Support Group was looking for a volunteer for our men’s program 'The Shed' and Ken was welcomed aboard. "He volunteered for the program and BCHS for 10 years. "Ken always had a professional and friendly manner with all the members at the group and was always willing to help staff in whatever needed to be done. "Ken started to have some health issues, so took a step back from volunteering but continued on in The Shed as a member for the past four years, still making projects and helping others where he could. "Ken passed away peacefully on Saturday morning with his wife Pam by his side. "When our group members get back together after these COVID times it just won't be the same without Ken. "He will be sadly missed." BCHS extends our condolences to Pam and Ken's family. www.bchs.com.au I #BCHS #thereforyou #Volunteers Elmore, Victoria Elmore Community #Elmore

23.01.2022 Great news ... indoor gyms and fitness spaces have been given the green light to open in regional Victoria from midnight on Tuesday. They can have up to 20 people with a maximum of 10 per space and a density of 1 person per 8 square metres. School graduations are back on too. See all the changes for regional Victoria announced by Premier Daniel Andrews this morning:... Indoor pools will open to 20. Indoor sport will begin for those 18 and under. Food courts can open. Live music can resume as part of outdoor hospitality. School graduations can be held within school communities. For religious celebrations, 20 people can gather together indoors with their faith leader or 50 outdoors. Thanks to the efforts of the local community, from 11.59pm tonight, Greater Shepparton will also come into alignment with the rest of regional Victoria and then progress under these changes. "Regional Victorians should be proud of this success. Everyone should be proud of this success. Because soon, it will belong to our whole state," Premier Andrews said. "From hundreds of cases to single digits, we have driven this virus down. "And we are so close so close to beating this thing. "I’m asking each of you: keep going. "Dig deep. Stay strong. 22.01.2022 Did you know 1 in 3 adults aged 65 or over fall at least once a year. If living independently as you grow older is important then learning about the risk of falling is a must. Falls can result in hip fracture, permanent disability and even death. Thankfully, there's things you can do to reduce the risk of falling and our Active Living team has spent September raising awareness and letting the community know we're here to help. Our exercise physiologist Joel made this video to... give you more information about falls, being aware of the risks and why staying active is important. 22.01.2022 The Chief Health Officer has issued an epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast of HIGH today for the Mallee, Northern Country (includes Bendigo), South West and Wimmera weather districts. This means there is an increased chance of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event occurring. Epidemic thunderstorm asthma is where a large number of people suddenly develop asthma symptoms over a short period of time and is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high pollen levels and a certain type of thunderstorm. The Bureau of Meteorology works closely with the department to forecast the risk of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event. 21.01.2022 Hi everyone. Sadly, Rusty has been found. It appears he died quickly from his injuries after being hit by a car earlier this week. 17.01.2022 We just wanted to say a huge thanks for the wonderful generosity already coming our way in the lead up to Christmas. We suspect there's going to be an even greater need for support this year given the times the community has endured. The Uniting Church of Hallidays Point has provided a wonderful cash donation to help our staff provide valuable supports for families in need this festive season. We will use this generosity for food and gift supports for clients who aren't in a ...position to provide. You see, it's often the fact that a parent can't provide for their family that does considerable 'emotional' damage and that's something we can help with through donations such as that from Hallidays Point. Thank you! And with kindness such as the anonymous family who dropped off this bounty of beauty products for our Strong Families team to help clients. Every donation helps. Rest assured your generosity makes a significant difference for those who face a very different Christmas due to personal circumstance. 08.01.2022 Masks to stay for the rest of the year. Premier Daniel Andrews has used his morning media conference to confirm we'll be wearing masks for some time. "If we're going to have that ring of steel gone on the 8th, and we're going to have people from Melbourne travelling into regional Victoria and vice versa - and that's important for tourism, for compassionate reasons, for lots of different reasons - masks need to be with us, across the whole state, for some time," Mr Andrews sa...id. "I know it's frustrating, I know that no one particularly enjoys wearing a mask ... but at the same time, it's a very low price to pay for potentially a very significant benefit. We'll be wearing masks, I think, at least till the end of the year, and we could be wearing masks into next year." What do you think? www.bchs.com.au I #BCHS #thereforyou #MaskUpBendigo
