24.01.2022 Our Managing Director Damian Wells welcomed Melissa Horne MP, Mary-Anne Thomas MP, Maree Edwards MP, Victorian Fisheries Authority, Kyneton Angling Club and Cas...tlemaine Angling Club to Barkers Creek and Upper Coliban reservoirs yesterday. Our boat ramp and car parking facilities at both reservoirs have been upgraded with funding from the VFA and Better Boating Victoria. We worked in partnership with the Dja Dja Wurrung on the new boat ramp at Premier Mine Road as it’s an area of significant cultural heritage. Contractors from Djandak, the commercial arm of Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation, were engaged to work on the upgrade. As well as improved access for on-water recreation, people have another great reason to visit our reservoirs. Yesterday the VFA released tagged Murray cod into our reservoirs as part its Golden Tag competition. If you land a fish with a golden tag you could win up to $10,000. The competition and the opening of our reservoirs to on-water recreation are part of the Victorian Government’s Target One Million commitment, to get more people fishing, more often. We want all our visitors to enjoy on-water recreation and the other facilities at our reservoirs. Please respect our reservoirs and follow the regulations to protect water quality, the environment and your safety, and remember to practice personal hygiene and physical distancing, remaining 1.5 metres from other visitors. Information on visiting our reservoirs can be found on our website - https://coliban.com.au/community/visit-our-reservoirs

20.01.2022 Fyans Creek is flowing nicely into Lake Bellfield at Halls Gap. Located within the spectacular Grampians National Park, Lake Bellfield is a great spot for trout... and redfin. It was also stocked with yellas for the first time in 2019 and Murray cod in 2020. In a few years, it’ll be the perfect year-round fishery! #fisheriesofficersatwork #grampians #fishingvictoria

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Ballarat Fly Fishers Club Secretary Gerard Richmond for winning the 2021 Lake Wendouree Jim Thomas Two Fly Competition, proudly sponsored b...y Hurley’s Fly. Over the past two days 50 fly fishermen from all over the state competed in the Two Fly, 21 brown and rainbow trout were caught and released ranging in size from 35cm - 58.5cm, with quite a few others lost. The weather conditions in general were very good with bright skies on Saturday morning then overcast conditions on Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning greeted us, with perfect fly fishing conditions overcast and a bit of drizzly rain. Gerard was the lucky angler for the weekend well done once again. A fantastic event hosted by the Ballarat Fly Fishers Club, once again Lake Wendouree proved that it is definitely one of the state’s top trout waters, due to VFA’s trout stocking program. See more

16.01.2022 You really have to wonder what is going on in my head when I come up with a concept for a fly whilst dreaming at night. And so, after a half a coffee last Frida...y morning it was straight to the vise in Scottie's office before we headed out for the day. With a blend of five different dubbings, a tungsten bead and a weighted body extension, there was a fair bit of weight in this size #12 fly. I'm calling it the Stickie 3.0 as it's grown from our other much used stream stick caddis patterns. Four of these were tied that morning. Only two were needed to know the results. The best two fish of the week fell to this fly, upwardsof 8 pounds. One coming from a seriously deep drop-off, the other a shallow run. Back in local waters yesterday saw two very nice fish fall to the Stickie 3.0 in deep runs. So, we'll be tying up a lot of these in various sizes. It will become a regular feature in all my fly boxes now. #flytying #tieyourown #stickcaddis See more

12.01.2022 We URGENTLY need 4 additional anglers for this weekend’s competition on the Ovens/Kiewa rivers to make up even numbers. Please get in touch if you or anyone yo...u know is willing to be a compliance angler. There will be no cost to enter and this will be a great opportunity for someone to try a river competition. You will be fishing in pairs and more information can be provided. Please contact the event coordinator through the FFA web page or on FB.

06.01.2022 We recorded a very cool show with this champion last night. Not to be confused with a young Obi Wan Kenobi, Mickey is definitely a Jedi when it comes to harness...ing the force for the purposes of fishing. I must say though, this interview was very informative for both hosts not only about the fishing but what a good human Mickey is.... all is forgiven for bailing on the last show.... charkras are now aligned again...Tune in on Friday #flyfishingpodcast #theintermediateline See more

06.01.2022 HOW TO | In this episode of RIO's "How To Fly Fish" series, Chris Walker digs deep into trout lines, and explains how trout lines vary. He talks about the diffe...ring weights of fly lines, how tapers are designed to have different effects and end results, and talks about the significance of "head lengths". - Chris then runs through the two core line families we have at RIO - explaining the differences between the two families, and ends up looking at the four key trout tapers we sell, and explains what each one is designed to do best. - If you are looking for a trout line and unsure what to get, or are confused by the many fly line options that are available on the market, this film will be an invaluable resource. 02.01.2022 Thought you might find this inter sting. MikeE.

01.01.2022 When things turned to custard early this year we made the decision to hold back on content that may have come across as egocentric, showy or boastful. We've alw...ays tried to make our content engaging, educational, or of value greater than 'just another fish' on social media. Yes the rub is that no matter how much we strive for this there is always an element of 'look at me!' and an element of ego. Our calling here is beyond posting photos or videos of our biggest fish - those simply never get shared. We believe in the first rule of publication as instilled in us by Dave's mentor: 'Never posture your audience with your ego'. There's been a blessing in 2020. TIME. No amount of money can provide for time in life, and what we have been given this year was opportunity in open-ended time - we simply had to find its purpose for us. The other blessing of the available TIME is that we finally get a chance to edit full version videos and finally tap into the hard drive hoarding we've been doing far too much of. Look for this winter to be rather epic at times as footage like this finally gets edited and shared. Like many, we lost much of our 2020 income in a 10 day stretch of cancellations back in late March. And like most of us, we have little clue as to what our future really holds. Life is always uncertain, evolving, changing - and always in ways and timing you can never predict. We don't know if our forward vision will connect. But we see a need and have a strong forward vision. Here's to once again embracing that, moving with it, and giving the try of life another kick. What else does any one of us have but our own try in life, our own tenacity and 'take it on' the best we can? All you can do is get up out of the dirt and get your feet under you... and find the hope beyond the hurricane of anxiety. Today we turn a corner and commit to moving forward once again in how and what we share. We hope that what we share in the coming 6 months connects with you and provides value in some way. It's still just fly fishing... so let's also have some fun. Let's start with that... fun. We're back in the saddle with an appropriately titled 2020 video "KEEP HANGIN' ON". This vid is best viewed at our Youtube /jensenflyfishing on a big screen with good speakers. :) See more
