25.01.2022 The most recent victim of COVID-19. The 2021 WMG Kansai
24.01.2022 I didn’t think an Australian would beat Ryan Gregson’s 1500m Australian record in my lifetime (3:31.06). Gregson held the Australian 1,500m record for 10 years,... 2 months, and 4 days respectively. This Australian record has now been shattered by Stewart McSweyn. To put into perspective how fast McSweyn just ran... Here are just a few of Australia’s greatest distance runners and their personal bests. - Ryan Gregson: 3:31.06 (previous Australian record) - Jeff Riseley: 3.32.93 - Craig Mottram: 3:33.97 - Collis Birmingham: 3:35.50 - Herb Elliott: 3:35.6 (h) - Youcef Abdi: 3:36.35 McSweyn being the first Australian to run under 3:31 seconds, and did it by half a second. New Australian Record: Stewart McSweyn in 3:30.51!! I don’t know what excites me more.... Mcsweyn’s new Aus record... Or the retaliation we’re about to see from Ryan Gregson the GOAT (with respect to McSweyn)

22.01.2022 He was sitting on his lounge doing nothing with his life 20 years ago, when he watched fellow indigenous sprinter Cathy Freeman win Gold at the Sydney 2000 Olym...pics.... And decided to have a crack himself. He’s since become the most successful, accomplished male 100m sprinter in Australian history. Joshua Ross crossed the finish line for Australia only split seconds after Usain Bolt broke the world record at the 2012 London Olympics. I’ve spent a bit of time with this Aussie legend over the past few months, listening and learning as he reflects on the incredible journey of his life and his career. 7 x national 100m champion 5 x national 200m champion 2 x Olympian 2 x Stawell Gift winner 1 x Australian Record holder A fellow Central Coast boy and one of the most inspiring men I have had the opportunity to spend time around. The word ‘Olympian’ doesn’t do him justice... I can’t wait to share his story with the world. Coming very soon.

18.01.2022 We may be witnessing a young Dani Steven’s (Samuels) in the making!! A young 15 year old girl named Marley Raikiwasa who is coached by Dianne Ferguson and compe...tes for Tee Trea Gully athletics club in South Australia - has been breaking records, beating adults, and throwing multiple World Junior qualifiers (at 15yrs old!!) Marley Raikiwasa - this season alone, has managed to break the following South Australian records: - U/16 Shot Put - 14.29m - U/16 Discus - 50.79m - U/18 Discus - 50.79m - U/20 Discus - 50.79m Marley recently won gold in the U/16 shot put at the SA All Schools She then won ANOTHER gold medal in the U/16 discus at SA All Schools Marley then went on to compete at this years South Australian state championships - where she won ANOTHER gold medal in the U/17 discus But that wasn’t enough for Marley..... She then stepped up and competed against the OPEN aged women at the SA State Championships... (May I remind you again at this point that she is still only 15 years old) Where she not only won the GOLD Medal in the women’s OPEN age discus - but she managed to throw THREE World Junior qualifying throws and finished with a personal best of 50.79 meters. Any coach or athlete can appreciate how difficult the World Junior Qualifying standards are.... It is extremely difficult to achieve these standards as an Under 20 athlete.... This young 15 year old girl has just thrown THREE world Junior qualifiers!! I can only imagine by the time she qualifies for the next World juniors in a couple years time from now - she will be one of the gold medal contenders. We may be witnessing a potential young Dani Steven’s reincarnation and our next World Champion Aussie female discus thrower Marley is extremely talented across all throwing events. She had actually won a silver medal in the Javelin at the Australian Championships in 2019 - but after an ankle injury she decided to focus on her discus as her main event. Which has so far proved to be the right decision! Marley will be competing at the Australian athletics championships where she has qualified to compete in U/17, U/20 and Open women discus and also in the U/17 shot put. Her short term goal is to compete well at Australian Athletics championships, and to be selected for the World Junior Championships. One of Marley’s idols who she really looks up to is Dani Stevens (who became such a young world discus champion herself is something that Marley finds inspiring) and she also admires Lyvante Su’emai being a young Pacific Islander herself. Marley also plays netball in her spare time, and she recently turned down a rookie contract in the development squad for state league for Newton Jaguars so that she could pursue her career in athletics. Marley also recently tried paying footy and was talented enough to be invited out to Norwood for their development squad. One of Marley’s biggest challenges has mostly been around time management balancing her school, and her sporting commitments. For example, Marley gets up very early each morning and does her gym before school... She then does all of her homework at lunch time.... so that she can train after school. That’s a committed 15 year old!!! Good luck to Marley and to coach Dianne Ferguson at the Australian Championships and on your World Junior Campaign #athletesofaustralia
18.01.2022 Who's getting keen for cross country season?
17.01.2022 When the games are set and done, the only thing left on the list is to celebrate! To close out the Games on Saturday 16 October, Games participants are in for ...‘A Night at the Museum’ with the brand new WA Museum Boola Bardip to host the Closing Ceremony. But it won't be the museum exhibits coming to life, it will be the Games participants firing up after a big eight days of sport to ensure a Games send-off to remember! Located at the heart of the Perth Cultural Centre on Whadjuk Nyoongar land, Boola Bardip means ‘many stories’ in local Nyoongar language. Games participants can choose their own adventure at the closing party perhaps dancing the night away under Otto, the giant blue whale or maybe exploring exhibitions that showcase the rich diversity of Western Australia’s cultural and natural heritage. This stunning new venue opened in November 2020 and is sure to be a highlight. Remember there are only two sleeps to go until entries open! 14.01.2022 Stewart McSweyn does it again Running the 1 mile in 3:50.61 in Tasmania yesterday 29th December 2020 McSweyn shatters his previous personal best by ...4 seconds (3:54.60) This moves him up to 3rd ALL TIME on the Australian 1 mile rankings His time of 3:50.61 has broken the Australian Allcomers 1 Mile Record and is the fastest 1 mile ever ran by an Australian (on Australian soil). What is most impressive about this run is that he’s ran it entirely on his own (with a little help from the pace maker first couple laps). In a fast 1 mile race overseas it’s reasonable to assume McSweyn will take down Craig Mottram‘s 15 year old Australian 1 mile record. Australian 1 mile rankings 1. Craig Mottram 3:48.98 (July, 2005) 2. Simon Doyle 3:49.91 (July, 1991) 3. STEWART MCSWEYN 3:50.61 (Yesterday) 4. Matthew Ramsden 3:51.23 (September, 2020) 5. Jeff Riseley 3:51.25 (July, 2009) 6. Mike Hillardt 3:51.82 (August 1985) 7. Ryan Gregson 3:52.24 (August 2010) 8. Mark Fountain 3:53.24 (August 2005) 9. Oliver Hoare 3:53.35 (August 2020) 10. Pat Scammell 3:53.58 (February 1991)

07.01.2022 We are heartbroken to let everyone know that our dad, husband and friend, Russ Dickenson, died very suddenly this morning after suffering a massive stroke yeste...rday. It was quick and thankfully he didn’t suffer. He and mum had a great final morning together and he even managed to fit in a 3km training session. It was well before his time but we think it was how he would have wanted to go. Much love, Katherine, Wes, Jane, Tim xxx See more

Those who continue as masters athletes are not immune from the ageing process, but those who remain successful and able to compete to a high standard must know a fair bit about how to adapt to this process." 02.01.2022 Stewart McSweyn and Jessica Hull have recently broken Australian records recently. How do we as a Little Athletics community reach out to these athletes to say we are fans and well done. Also, how do we support and encourage our Australian athletes preparing for the Tokyo Olympics? Ideas!
01.01.2022 REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN With the latest easing of restrictions coming into effect later this month, the league is more eager than ever to get the 20-21 sea...son underway! Due to the impacts of the pandemic and the bulk of competition still on offer, the league will be maintaining the usual registration fees. The VAL is self funded and we rely solely on membership to remain operational. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to putting on a great season of racing!
