25.01.2022 Top End Orienteers, end of year function. Origami map, 4 person random teams, 2 hr score, controls either pics or craft(eg. Butterfly, aeroplane, bird with items to use at the control site). Lots of fun if somewhat hot and humid.

12.01.2022 MapRun Events - give it a go! Over the past month, MapRun events have been set up on four maps near Bendigo. This means you can run an orienteering course at any time and have your result instantly uploaded to the results board. There are no controls or punches, however you will get a satisfying beep from your phone when you arrive at the control site.... The maps and instructions can be downloaded and printed from Eventor. 15 August - Sedgwick South 22 August - Prince of Wales 29 August - Sedgwick North 5 September - Bullock Track** [**A word of advice from Jim Russell. There are many, many unmarked motorbike and vehicular tracks at Bullock Track. Ignore the tracks and use the contours.]

08.01.2022 WMOC 2021 Hungary entries are open! Following the postponement of the World Masters Games 2021 in Japan to 2022, the IOF Council had initiated work to find an... organiser of a WMOC in the calendar year 2021. Of the 2 applications which were received for hosting a WMOC 2021 at short notice, Council decided to appoint Hungary, with the event to be held on 7th 13th August. The Event Centre will be located in the town of Velence, approximately 50 km southwest of Budapest. The concept was based upon the postponed Hungária Cup event from 2020, so the mapping of the forest areas was done. Still, the organiser had to renegotiate a lot and plan for an additional two sprint races in Budaörs and nearby Székesfehérvár. After only 4 weeks of work, the event website is now up and running on https://wmoc2021.hu with Bulletin 1 published with all the necessary information in English, Russian and Hungarian! Entries are also now opened in IOF Eventor: https://eventor.orienteering.org/Events/Show/7098 Recent news about vaccinations suggest that the summer of 2021 may not be lost to the Covid-19 virus. Still, the organiser is aware that people are reluctant to commit to enter at this stage of the pandemic, so the early bird entry deadline is as late as 3rd May 2021! Furthermore, the organiser’s website contains a special COVID-19 page, where it will be possible to track the developments close to the entry deadlines. For instant information, please consult the WMOC 2021 Event Office: [email protected] If you haven’t found the right Christmas present, gift your loved one with a WMOC 2021 entry and let’s meet in sunny and warm Hungary next August!
08.01.2022 NZ 24 hr Rogaining Champs are currently under way. Tracking is being provided by our own Christopher Naunton and Living it Live (Use tab on right for live points update)

04.01.2022 Whilst our national championships aren't taking place in 2020, some other countries are staging theirs. Congratulations to Henry McNulty for taking out the Norwegian Sprint Championships over the weekend. https://eventor.orientering.no/Events/ResultList
04.01.2022 Mt Korong this Saturday! Yes, you heard right, Mt Korong is happening this weekend. Following the announcement from the Government today, that from 11:59 pm Wednesday night, regional Victoria goes to Step 3 on Victoria's Roadmap. This allows "Outdoor contact and non-contact sport for 18, outdoor non-contact sport only for adults, with gathering and density limits, outdoor skateparks open, outdoor fitness for 10 people." In other words, we can organize events under the same... restrictions we had during July/August. This is our last Bush Classic for the year, and following good winter rain, Mt Korong is looking its best, with wildflowers in abundance. Here is the perfect chance to run on one of the best areas we have, with courses set by master course setter, Daryl Fleay. Entries are now open on Eventor, limit of 60 adults only, (no limit on U20) with 30 people max per session/hour, and limited to 10 people only in the assembly area at any one time. This is an event not to be missed!

02.01.2022 The lucky ones.
02.01.2022 A simple orange and white marker can awaken so many feelings. Sometimes frustration, but also the excitement of the challenge, and especially the joy and exuber...ance of finding one exactly where you expected it! We applaud the resilience and creativity of the global orienteering community in keeping orienteering alive and well in 2020 with appropriate social distancing and respect for the pandemic. We look forward to a 2021 where we hopefully can once again share the challenge of finding those elusive flags, together. Happy New Year!!
