24.01.2022 This event was held on Thursday 12 May and featured CCB and BSSC students participating in the showing of Alpacas (supplied by Yenaminut Alpaca Stud) and Dexter cattle and Polwarth sheep (with support from Homeleigh Polwarths). The show aims to provide students with experience in the show ring, gain valuable feedback from experienced judges and showcase the La Valla Trade Training facilities. 17.01.2022 Agriculture students showed alpacas in the Youth Parader Competitions at the Alpaca Colourbration, Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show and The Royal Melbourne Show. 11.01.2022 VCAL students hosted a Trade Mental Health & Wellbeing Event on Thursday 15th October in the Trade Training Centre. Guest speakers delivered important messages to over 90 budding young tradies about the need to look after themselves and their mates when it comes to both their physical and mental wellbeing. Jeremy Forbes from HALT (Hope, Assistance, Local Tradies) talked about his 20 years in the construction industry, the many mates he’s lost to suicide, and the inspiration behind forming HALT. 08.01.2022 Over the last weekend of the school holidays four Certificiate II Agriculture students attended the Melbourne Royal Alpaca Show and competed in the Youth Paraders Competition. This complements the unit ‘Plan to Exhibit Livestock’ unit. The competition is split into two sections, the Showmanship and Stockmanship Sections and classes depending on individual experience. Congratulations to Sarah Vaughan who won Senior Champion in the Open Class and Ethan Hunt who won Senior Champion in the Preliminary Class. 04.01.2022 Students from Integrated Technologies 1/2 and 3/4 had the very rare opportunity to tour a New Transformer Station near Ararat, this station has been built to accommodate the new Wind Farm 20km away and has the capacity to supply 125,000 homes. The station was to be ‘switched on’ later in the week meaning that prior to going ‘live’ we were afforded much greater access to the facility. 03.01.2022 A group of year 10 Catholic College students completed a taster course at the Park Rd facility as an introduction to engineering. Running over 10 weeks the students focused on welding and created a barbeque hotplate. 03.01.2022 The Australian Sheep and Wool Show was held over three days at the Bendigo Showgrounds on Friday 17th - Sunday 19th July. Six Certificate II Agriculture students exhibited our Polwarth Stud Sheep over the weekend. They complete a unit ‘Plan to Exhibit Livestock’ which involves the students completing their entries, preparing and clipping the sheep in the weeks prior to the show.
