10.01.2022 Transitioning from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) is a significant life event that many local veterans have experienced, be it through voluntary discharge t...o the more complex medical transition after sustaining injury. The newly established Joint Transition Authority (JTA) is designed to support ADF personnel and their families be better supported and prepared for transitioning from military to civilian life. The JTA has been provided with $17.7 million in funding to support Australian Defence Force transitioning from military to civilian life. The funding will enable JTA to: - Improve service delivery and transition, including connection with medical professionals in civilian life; - Enhance programs which can be accessed by individuals when they need them; - Through a whole-of-system approach, deliver a more connected transition for ADF members and their families, catering to their individual needs; - Identify opportunities, address gaps, integrate existing services and influence new ones as they are developed; and - Undertake stakeholder consultation on the final functions and design of the JTA. Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said supporting the ongoing health and wellbeing of ADF veterans is a priority for the government. We, at the Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch Inc., will continue to provide support for all current and former serving ADF veterans and hope they find a strong and healthy community connection through the Bendigo District RSL. : Department of Defence

02.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of the departure of the first Australian and New Zealand contingents from Albany, Western Australia, bound for Egypt. The men sailed... in a convoy of 38 Australian troopships (36 from Albany and 2 from Fremantle) and 10 from New Zealand. Precious cargo on board the troopships included over 21,000 Australians, 8,500 New Zealanders, 12,000 horses from both countries along with medical and military equipment and supplies. Only one in three of those who sailed in the first convoy would return physically unscathed at the end of the WWI. We thank these selfless ANZACs for their bravery and service, and honour those who paid the supreme sacrifice. #thankyou Image Courtesy: Australian War Memorial
