19.01.2022 How Can You Help? A SMART PUP FOR ALEX Alex was born with cerebral palsy and his positivity, resilience and thoughtfulness continue to inspire us all. Alex loves Batman, St Kilda Football Club and learning new things. He is now thirteen years old and in Year 8 at Weeroona College Bendigo. He longs to be more independent as he gets about in his wheelchair. A Smart Pup will enable Alex to gain that extra independence. He can cross roads safely, find... his way around, an item dropped can be picked up, doors can be opened and lights switched on.. Just a few of the practical ways his Smart Pup can help. In addition his Smart Pup can be trained to give Alex a gentle nudge when he gets a lean on one side of his chair and to recognise if Alex is having an epileptic seizure, seeking help. Most of all in having a Smart Pup companion, Alex will always have a Best Friend nearby. The training for the pup can take 12-14 months but it is intense, and these dogs are just incredible. We are asked to raise $25,000 before training can begin. People who know and love Alex often ask how they can help. Here is an opportunity. Any contribution, however small, would be very much appreciated in helping us to reach this target. Thank you for your donation! All donations over $2 are tax deductible. The Rotary Club of Bendigo South has been able to establish a Grant process utilising Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) The supporting fund is being undertaken under the auspices of Rotary Australia Benevolent Society in the form of a Rotary Australia Compassionate Grant (RACG), where donations into the fund are matched $ for $ up to a maximum of $11,500. donations can be made at rawcs.org A Smart Pup for Alex. Project Number 103 of 2019 2020. This is a Project of the Rotary Club of Bendigo South Inc., Assisted by the Rotary Passport Club of Melbourne. TAX DEDUCTIONS AVAILABLE.
