24.01.2022 So not ok. Carters Farm - 15 year battle to transform viable farm into useless hobby farm & industrial wasteland. Not ok. Kangaroo flat leisure centre - gifted to the people of bendigo & demolished for a pool built in a known high flood zone. Not ok Council building designed & built with plans for improvements on council land. Totally wrecked with no real return for the people of Bendigo. Multiple pools & parks across the shire allowed to run down for years to the point wh...ere restoration is impossible. Not ok. Multiple developments approved inside known flood zones, without effective flood mitigation strategies & no regard for natural ecology restoration. Not ok. Hundreds of trees destroyed - including some older than Bendigo - to make way for hundreds of houses without yards. Not ok. Narrow streets. Everywhere. Not ok. Nature strips with more grass than the houses they front. Not ok. No footpaths in populated areas. Not ok. Gravel roads in urban areas. Not ok. Something stinks in the back rooms of this council. This council was practically all new faces with practically no changes to how they do things, if BHYS (& others) posts are on point. Vote for people who will demand transparency & evidence based decisions. Vote for people who are willing to work for the people of Bendigo, not the puppeteers of the last two (more?) decades. Sure (the puppeteers of) Bendigo council have done some nice things over the years, but does that counter the bullshit things they’ve done? Time to cut the crap. Authorised by Lord John Drake Cooper, 0488 JOHN 40 (0488564640), 2/1 Walsh Court (PO Box 1418), Kangaroo Flat, Victoria, 3555

22.01.2022 We aspire through this page to be a focus of visionary ideas for Bendigo. Anything we find that stands a chance of making Bendigo even better will be shared here and from here. We want an inclusive, progressive town that respects the natural and man made history of our town. We see no reason why Bendigo can't be a place that inspires others globally. Are you something of a visionary? Why not join our admin team? No one has all the answers, but if willing to stand proud for ...Bendigo, why not join us? (When there’s a council election on,this is the campaign page for John Cooper’s campaign to get on council. Outside of campaign periods for him, the focus is all about making Bendigo better!)

18.01.2022 Are you aiming to run for council this October? Victorian changes mean there’s more training available for candidates. They were going to be physical sessions, but now they’re online. Here’s the latest one: Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the upcoming Candidate Information Session: Strategic Role of Council on Wednesday July 1 will only be via webinar only commencing at 6.30pm. The webinar can be accessed via www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/election2020 and the webinar will be interactive so participants can ask questions.

16.01.2022 Public health measures are not being respected by the public or enforced by enough people. Due to this I won’t be doing any public contact events that require close contact. I will be wearing a mask of some sort for any public events, which will make me harder to understand. Sorry. I don’t want to risk the health of you or my partners.

15.01.2022 Hi everyone, I hope you're all staying safe and well. Thorne Harbour Country have an amazing opportunity for some LGBTIQA+ young people to join an online panel ...to be delivered at the end of September. They're hoping to get engagement from young people from across the Loddon Mallee region (Preferably outside of Bendigo). Feel free to share with your networks, on social media and with any young people you think may be interested. Shannon would love to hear back from anyone interested by Friday, September 4th.

14.01.2022 The inefficient use of energy, extensive depletion of natural resources and vast production of non-biodegradable waste during construction are harming our environment and it has become vital we shift our construction policies and methods to more reliable and greener, more sustainable choices ... Hempcrete is a unique bio-aggregate building material composed of three simple components; hemp, lime and water. It is a lightweight product, historically used for timber frame infill..., roofing tiles, insulation, render and floor slabs. Though it is not load-bearing, it is a highly functional building material with considerable environmental benefits. Hempcrete is a carbon storehouse with a negative carbon footprint, making it a perfect eco-friendly building material ... The hemp plant can replenish itself every year. It requires little water for growth. It is a low field maintenance crop, making it a dependable renewable raw material readily available anywhere in sufficient quantities for production. Its sustainability as an agricultural commodity decreases the consumption of other natural resources in construction, which further benefits our environment by supporting forest conservation of other timber ... Hempcrete production requires low energy consumption when using locally grown renewable materials. Thus, saving a considerable amount of fuel and energy and preventing ‘green-washing’ engaged in the transportation of raw materials and end products across continents. Further, Hempcrete has a low thermal conductivity, allowing it to regulate the temperature and humidity inside the building naturally. Its excellent thermal properties enable reduced heating and cooling requirements of a building, thereby saving fuel and making the construction energy efficient ... See more

12.01.2022 No regional candidates, but looks like we’re on :)

09.01.2022 The sex industry is currently paused because of the pandemic. There’s no clear indication of when any aspect of it will be allowed to function again, despite the prime ministerial road map indicating everyone else would be back to full trade by the end of the road map! Given this will mean a surge in demand after the pandemic is over, I think we need to address this topic properly and think seriously about bringing permanent adult entertainment to Bendigo, from strip joints to brothels. And this survey seems to agree. 62% in favour so far... Authorised by Lord John Drake Cooper, 0488 JOHN 40 (0488564640), 2/1 Walsh Court (PO Box 1418), Kangaroo Flat, Victoria, 3555

07.01.2022 I’ve taken the rainbow pledge. Has your preferred candidate? Find out more here: https://rainbowvotes.com.au/ As I just said to the Victorian Pride Centre, I will always advocate for the inclusion of diverse minorities in our society. Our differences are what make us strong. I always have and always will advocate for inclusive practice. If ever I see anything I can do to help make a place more inclusive, I advocate for it. ... Always have, always will.

04.01.2022 SIRs save lives. We need them everywhere. Probably even in Bendigo

04.01.2022 I intend to run for office (as a councillor) with the City of Greater Bendigo in October 2020, despite the challenges of the pandemic. I will therefore run a virtual ‘listening post’ up until the election period is over. Please get in touch with what you would like from your next council. I am a founding member of Fiona Patten's Reason Party and like them, I prefer to use evidence to speculation to guide my decisions. Given the state is now on stage 3 lockdown until a month ...before the council election, I likely won’t be doing much in person stuff between now and then. My focus will need to be communication pathways that are not in person. So here’s how you reach me: Reply to this post Send a message to the page Send a message to my personal profile - John Cooper Email: [email protected] Mobile: 0488564640 (SMS preferred) Landline: 03 5447 0312 Post: PO BOX 1418, Kangaroo Flat, Vic, 3555 Letterbox: 2/1 Walsh court, Kangaroo Flat, Vic, 3555 Keep in mind that whilst I try to answer everything quickly, technology & life sometimes work against me. I hope to participate in all future forums (eg virtual town halls & such) via video link or in person where it is safe to do so. 04.01.2022 Good oral hygiene is key to so much. If you have good teeth, a good life is easier to create. We clearly need more supports than are already on offer. If I get on council I will use the status to push for more access to discounted dental for more people of Bendigo. Whilst council can’t directly fund dental care, we can work with dental businesses to support our poorest and we can lobby government & philanthropic organisations for support to get Bendigo smiling!
