23.01.2022 The results we achieve are only equal the the effort we put in.
23.01.2022 Extremely happy and humbled to have been part of Treasured Youth Cos inaugural event. Violence is often seen as a sign of strength, however in my case it was a sign of weakness. I used violence to mask everything that was wrong in my life. Every act to intimidate or cause pain was an inner response to how I felt about myself. I spent a long time believing what people had told me, wether at home or in school. I believed that I was stupid, horrible, a waste of space.... Initially my response was to act out, to cause others pain. If people were scared of me then they would leave me alone. It worked, and my efforts to hurt others increased. My response came from an internal weakness. I struggled to deal with what I had been through, and I resorted to what I knew best. I believed I was strong, but that was denial. It wasnt strength at all. True strength comes from acknowledging what you lack, acknowledging what needs to change, and working through that change. What Ive done in my previous life is something that I have to live and deal with. One of the ways I deal with it is by speaking to youth about my experiences and how Ive managed to change. I never share these stories lightly, and only open up about what I used to be when I absolutely know it can make a difference. True strength for me is making a positive difference. It was an honour to meet everyone who attended Treasured Youth Co

17.01.2022 It has been so rewarding working with youth over the past few months. Sharing my experiences and what Ive had to overcome to get to where I am today. Its taken me over 20 years to come to terms with my past and the challenges Ive faced. I feel privliged to be able to impart my knowledge of how Ive overcome these struggles with young adults who are facing the same challenges. Not everyone has a positive start to life, but it is possible to turn it around. We just need the ...right tools and motivation at our disposal. We can develop and harness the qualities we seek externally in ourselves and become our own role models. https://btsmc.com.au//showing-youth-how-its-possible-to-b/
16.01.2022 Live Mental Health Awareness talk this Thursday at 9:45 am :) - - EMF is delighted to announce a Q&A session with renowned mental health advocate, motivational ...speaker and university lecturer Matt Vapour of Beneath the Surface. - - This year has been so tough for so many people. Loss, struggle, uncertainly and general helplessness has been a weekly occurrence this year unfortunately. In EMF we champion mental health and we strive to help people cope with the daily struggles by doing what they can and not focusing so much on what they cannot. Hopefully things like this give people a chance to check in with themselves and positively look forward to the future :) - - Matt is a fantastic example of overcoming adversity and using it as a platform to help others. We just had to get him on to kick off a major mental health awareness champaign in EMF this month. - - We would love as many questions as possible to ask him folks so please comment away below and feel free to private message us any questions also. - - For more on Matt just check him out below :) Really looking forward to this chat and dont worry it will be recorded to the EMF page so you can watch whenever suits. https://btsmc.com.au/ - - https://www.youtube.com/watch

14.01.2022 Thank you to St Bartholomew House for hosting my talk today. It was an amazing experience motivating your clients and learning about their experiences
13.01.2022 With Mental Health Week around the corner I wanted to develop a new talk that spoke about issues that are at the core of my personal journey, the Male Mental Mentality. Understanding that its ok to talk about our past and confront what weve been hiding from is a huge part of my personal journey. Reaching this understanding is especially hard when boys and men are constantly told to boys dont cry; youre a man now; man up; grow some balls; dont be a princess and ...other things that negatively affect how we process things mentally. It took me more than 20 years to talk about my issues. Feeling like I never fitted in anywhere. Struggling with my past. Trying to hide aspects of my life in fear of judgement. Not acknowledging how I felt. This talk is about how I overcame these challenges while providing insight and tools for others. https://btsmc.com.au//the-male-mental-mentality-challengi/
12.01.2022 Motivation is the key to change. You need to be the driver.
11.01.2022 Thank you to Open Up Podcast for the opportunity to share my story. It has taken me 20+ years to come to grips with my past. I feel privileged to be in a place where I can use my experiences to help others. This is why I started Beneath the Surface and why Im motivated to share my experiences. ... When we talk about mental health, we have a tendency to talk about it in a vacuum. My mental health issues developed from what i experienced in my early years. As a result my physical and mental health deteriorated the more I ran from my past. The only way I could take control of my health was to confront my past and use it as a source of strength and motivation for change. Sharing my story will hopefully help others confront what theyve been running from and give others some clarity on the issues some of us face. Love you guys and thank you so much for helping me reach this far https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Nutq3MHqlc

11.01.2022 As a survivor of domestic abuse, the thought of residential lockdowns are making me extremely anxious. Not for my own safety, but for those who are trapped in similar circumstances that I once found myself in. And while Governments are coping with this unprecedented event, many seem to be silent about the impeding lockdowns and how this is predicted to spike domestic abuse and violence cases. https://vaporrising.com.au//16/covid-19-and-domestic-abuse/

08.01.2022 Thank you to the team at Act-Belong-Commit for the chance to talk about my mental health journey.
08.01.2022 I've found recently, particularly with the current pandemic, I needed to readjust my social media usage. The thing is social media can be the key to our mental wellness as well as being a major factor in our mental illness. It's like a double-edged sword, on the one hand social media can be a great tool to keep us connected to those closest to us; on the other it can make us feel extremely self-conscious as we compare ourselves to other's highlight reels. Understanding how s...ocial media makes us feel needs to be at the forefront of managing our social media usage and protecting our mental health. There's 3 key questions we need to ask ourselves when reviewing our social media usage in relation to our mental health: 1. When am I using social media the most? 2. What am I using social media for? 3. How does using social media make me feel during and afterwards? After I asked myself these 3 questions I found I used social media to chat with friends and family and to use it to enhance my business. I found this routine to be best for me: 1. Use social media in the morning when I can further distract myself during the day if I see anything distressing. 2. Limit my social media usage to keeping in touch with friends and family and managing my business, I don't browse it at all - no story watching or scrolling. 3. Social media made me feel quite low when I browsed it without purpose. Every time I open a social media app going forward it's to message someone or to manage my business. Since implementing this strategy it has helped manage my mental health day to day. It's by no means a cure, it's just a tool that I can use to help reduce mental distress. Let me know how adjusting your social media usage has helped you!

04.01.2022 Thank you to @basebelmont for inviting me share my story with your clients. Not everyone is able to have positive role models in their life. Breaking the cycle of negative influences and fostering what we seek externally from role models in ourselves is the first step to improving our lives.

01.01.2022 Belief in yourself can only grow outside your comfort zone. Its easy for us to stay where were comfortable. The problem is we never challenge ourselves in this mindset and belief in ourselves slowly evaporates. Challenge yourself and slowly build back that belief.
