25.01.2022 Benell park fire truck serviced and ready to go for another hot summer

25.01.2022 Beautiful morning here at Benell Park

25.01.2022 I am a big time advocate of the SUSOR. "Screw Up School Of Riding" It meshes perfectly with something Aristotle supposedly said 2,000 years ago---... "For things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them." Which implies tons of failure, tons of getting it wrong, tiny struggles forward, sliding back, crawling forward---repeat, repeat--- Do NOT be afraid to try and fail. Failure is normal. Failure is inevitable, If we don't try to do things that we can't do, we will never do them at all, and since we are doing things that we can't do, we are going to screw them up. So be OK with the inevitability of that, and do it anyway, even if it's doing it wrong. Wrong can change, over time, to sort of wrong. Sort of wrong can change, over time, to sort of OK. Sort of OK can change, over time, to pretty good. Pretty good can change, over time, to good. Good can change, over time, to very good indeed, and it would never have come to this if we had been too chicken to start out wrong.

25.01.2022 Does your dad need a new wallet? We have a large range of RMW & Ariat in store!

24.01.2022 We love Sprenger. We have been riding in the Bowbalence stirrups for years and highly recommend them especially for anyone that has as leg injuries.

23.01.2022 I was scared today. I was scared to get on, scared to walk out the yard because I had a bad ride the day before. One bad ride, and it made me scared. I didn’t... know why. I’ve had 1000 bad rides. I’ve had 1000 falls. I’ve broken bones and bruised my pride on countless occasions, but today I was scared. Why? Because confidence is fragile. It takes months and years to build and seconds to lose and yet we are so careless with it. When we get on a horse, we wear a hat to protect our head. We wear body protectors, gloves, boots... We pay so much attention to protecting ourselves physically, we forget that our minds are not invincible, and our confidence certainly is not. Your bank of confidence needs regular deposits, not just from others... but from you. Self confidence is the most valuable currency in life. When you go to get on, and you hesitate, you falter and you start to ask yourself can I do this?, chances are, your account is almost empty. Every time you laugh and say oh no, I’m no good or so and so is 10x better than me, you make a withdrawal from that account, and before you know it, your account is empty and you’re scared to get on. But every time you say I’m really pleased with how that went or I think I rode that really well, your balance increases. We need to learn to give ourselves a break, pat ourselves on the back and allow ourselves to feel proud of where we are - after all, most of the time we’ve worked bloody hard to get there! Recognising your strengths is just as important as recognising your weaknesses. Never allow yourself or anyone else to empty that account. Confidence is valuable, don’t bankrupt yourself.

23.01.2022 How are you teaching your riders the importance of this? And what about you?

11.01.2022 A Good Mare There’s something different about the way a good mare connects with her rider. It’s special. Like an unspoken agreement. Once a mare chooses yo...u as her person, it’s like she has an instinct to protect you, to fight for you. It’s almost as if she takes ownership of you. I believe the good mares have a deep sense of intuition. They can read your mind. They know what you’re thinking even before you do. The good mares I know breathe fire in the face of challenge and then somehow, miraculously, know to quiet themselves when a timid child is plopped on their back for a pony ride. They are clever, cunning and calculated, which can be your greatest enemy or your saving grace. The good mares I know do not tolerate egotistical riding. They do not tolerate force. They demand tact, finesse and emotional control. But once you have won a mare’s heart, you have won all of her. In exchange for your bestand nothing lessshe will give you everything.
