18.01.2022 For those affected by adoption, the "festive season" might be a reminder of the loss suffered. It might be a time when that empty seat at the table is noticed even more so, when the weight of the trauma endured becomes heavier. Or perhaps, it’s a time of contemplation around what could have been, if your life had taken a different track, one that didn’t involve adoption. If you have mixed feelings about the prospect of the season ahead, then we hope that some of these nurturing tips will help you along the way.

15.01.2022 We acknowledge that 2020 has been difficult and challenging for so many. We have been privileged to work with many who have sought our services this year. The PARC Team wishes everyone the best possible Christmas, given all differing situations we face and have to manage. Remember to self care, take time for yourself and enjoy your days. May 2021 bring us all some joy and good health.

14.01.2022 To round off Adoption Awareness Week, we’re resharing the poster developed by the Post Adoption Resource Centre last year. Whilst we understand that the experiences of adopted people vary, we know from research and evidence as detailed in our poster, that adoption is trauma and can have a multitude of impacts for those affected. We were blown away by the response to the poster last year, with it being shared 160 times and viewed over 10,000 times across the world. Feedback largely indicated that for those impacted, it validated their struggles which others (family, friends, professional supports) had often failed to recognise. The challenges associated with adoption are real, perhaps not for all, but they deserve to be recognised and acknowledged so that those affected aren’t left feeling alone, and disenfranchised

03.01.2022 https://www.jigsawqueensland.com//michael-discharging-an-a Michael Costello was born in Brisbane in 1970, at the height of the closed and forced adoption eras. He was initially placed in an orphanage, and then extended foster care, despite his mother making several attempts to regain custody. Michael went on to be adopted by his foster carers at the age of five where he was physically, sexually and emotional abused. Five years ago, he began the process of discharging his adoption, having his original birth certificate reinstated and his mother legally recognised as such. In this episode of Jigsaw Qld's Adopt Perspective, Jo talks to Michael about why he pursued a discharge and the process involved in achieving it. This episode discusses adult themes and listener discretion is advised
