21.01.2022 Dear friends, This year’s Durga Pujo’s main theme is Connection and Well-being’. BAWA’s COVID-19 team did a tremendous job for last six months towards our International students. It’s not only a question of providing groceries, money, vaccine etc, but I strongly believe it was the Connection and Well-being’ made the difference to these affected students. We met them personally, spending time with them to understand their problem and I believe that solves their many issue...s. My sincere thanks to BAWA COVID-team, COVID fund-donors and the entire BAWA community. I am pleased to mention that this year we have received the Lottery West grant on Durga Pujo on our theme Connection and Wellbeing to support our valuable work. This year there were no category to apply for Lottery West Grant, it was just an Expression of Interest. I strongly believe that our COVID-19 work was the cutting edge to successfully receiving this grant. My personal thanks to Hirenda and BAWA MC for our successful application submission. After the submission, I had to go through four rigorous interviews with Lottery West, each interview was an hour long and now we have successfully received the grant. It's a huge honor to accept this award on behalf of Bengali Association of WA. On 12th October Hon Yaz Mubarack MLA, visited my house to present the Lottery West grant certificate (picture attached) On behalf of BAWA, I would like to thank the Lottery West, WA Govt and Hon Yaz Mubarak for providing BAWA the grant. In last two weeks, we have made substantial progress in our COVID-19 support activities. It was not possible, without all of your support and teamwork. We have supported international students from varying origins.... For those international students in need, we are distributing money and providing vouchers, to be used for Woolworths / Coles / Spud-shed/ Chemist warehouse / flu vaccination etc and also providing groceries around Perth. We have received overwhelming response from BAWA kids and around 40 kids will participate. ... As parents we share one common experience of wonderful nostalgic memories when we watch our kids unprepared past videos of community performances. Those memories undoubtedly take us back to the day on the fly particularly when they stumbled, refused to take prompts or simply forgot their moments.
