23.01.2022 Tomorrow @ Recess! Our Food Safari Begins in AUSTRALIA!! (Due to Covid of course we can’t fly anywhere so we are starting at home ) Our usual over the counter recess treats with be replaced tomorrow with an Aussie inspired spread. Prices will range from 20c to $2. ... Due to time & volunteers we can only make the usual amount of portions so it’s first in best dressed! Limited quantities of Lamingtons, Fish & Chips, Anzac Biscuits, Pavlova Cups, Mini Meat Pies, Milo, Watermelon, Pineapple, Mini Sausage Sandwiches, Fairy Bread, Banana & Custard, Vegemite & Cheese Scrolls. 22.01.2022 For those who were wondering.... Due to swimming, surfing, camps & Broulees Got Talent being held in the final weeks of this year, lots of children didnt have a chance to enter the guessing competition Bengello Bites was running. So we have decided to extend the competition through term 1 2019 and the winner will be announced on the last school assembly before the April holidays. The vouchers will be dated from April as well so the lucky winner will still have plenty of t...ime to use them. Stay tuned in the new year as information about the competition will be posted here. 22.01.2022 Hello! I would like to ask all parents & carers to please remind their children to remember to place their lunch order at the canteen, before they head off to school in the morning. It just might help the current situation in which we have 6-12 students every day we are open, forgetting to drop their orders in before the bell. The forgotten orders often finally make it to the canteen after the lunch bell goes and I have very little time & helpers to ensue every child receives something for lunch. Which they most definitely do. There is also disappointment as they most often do not get what they wanted originally. You help on tackling this problem would be greatly appreciated.

22.01.2022 NO LONGER AVAILABLE So, starting this week we will be having a Daily Recess Special. The special will be available at recess only & over the counter for the rest of Term 2 & Term 3. 21.01.2022 We are looking for new volunteers! Here is what we need; People keen to sign up for a rostered Wednesday from 9am-2pm to help facilitate our awesome cooking classes! Duties will include, clearing up after a class & helping to reset for the next. Its a fast turn around for just me so an extra pair of hands would be brilliant! Lunch & espresso coffee included! Its my hope that we will have lots of people enquire so you will only need to be rostered on for one Wednesday! ... We could also really use two regular people on Thursdays. 21.01.2022 Hello! Here it is, the long awaited 2019 Menu! There are a few differences to be sure we comply with the New Healthy Canteen Strategy so please read carefully. This Menu will soon be sent away to receive the NSW Governments stamp of approval. This will be a bit of a big deal when we get our certification so Ill be sure to let you all know when it happens. I hope all the kids will find something on the menu they like if their favourites have disappeared. School Canteens ha...ve become rather a tricky business. 21.01.2022 You may have noticed.... If you are a parent of a child requiring Gluten Free options you may have noticed the garlic bread option has disappeared from our menu. Im afraid as the numbers of children within our school who require a gluten free diet are very few we can no longer offer this item, however there are items on the menu that are already gluten free or can be. We can also look at other ways to provide the canteen service for children with food allergies or intolerances. Before ordering please pop in & have a chat so we can find a solution. Belle

20.01.2022 Heres the details groovers!

20.01.2022 Last week we started workshops with stage one about our senses & how they help us taste & expirence the food we eat. We discussed what looking at food with our eyes can tell us & how some foods look different when you cut/peel or cook them. We used touch to explore the textures of some fruits & our noses to smell how mint leaves smell different when you crush them up. All the children closed their eyes & listened to me making toast which smelt so go it made us salivate & hungry. Finally we tasted some organic blood orange slices. We then practiced spreading some cream cheese or hummus on a rice cracker and using some fruits & vegetables we made fish! Hope they tasted as good as they looked kids!

18.01.2022 What have the kids been learning in the canteen lately? Well... recently we finished off our Nutrition workshops. The kids & I discussed what nutrition means & why its important at all stages of life especially when bodies are growing. We talked about some of the most important vitamins & minerals, where we can find them in our daily diet & how they help our bodies work. I proved to the kids that there is indeed Iron in cereal with the help of some special K & some strong ...magnets. We looked at the Australian Healthy Eating Guide & sorted some groceries into food groups. Hopefully they now understand just why breakfast is so important. We finished off with a banana milkshake & orange slices because we all could do with extra calcium, magnesium, vitamin C & potassium! See more

18.01.2022 All ready to open Bengello Bits for term 4 tomorrow! Please note that we are only open Thursday’s & Friday’s for the remainder of 2020. The menu does state Wednesday’s as well but we’ve made a sustainability decision to only open two days at this stage. See you tomorrow!

18.01.2022 Hello Families. Some of you all may have been told of their childrens cooking lessons this week. Whilst the canteen has been closed Mr Rose and I along with the teachers organised for some cooking lessons. Well it seems these have been quite a success! We are holding more next week for those who didnt get the opportunity this week. We hope everyone will get a turn. So what did we cook? ... We made French Pumpkin Soup & Raspberry Puff Pastry Flowers! We learnt a little bit of French too! I have had a few parents ask about the soup recipe as their kids went home raving about how good it was, so its here! Please keep in mind these quantities make a BIG pot full. Bonsoir Belle

11.01.2022 Well! Wow wee! Our First Food Safari was a huge hit today. We served the entire recess & almost sold out of everything! The kids were so excited & hard decisions were made. Thank you Kim Willis for all your hard work today & this inspired idea. Thanks Keryn White for your help putting it all together & smashing the washing up. And Thank you Bronwyn Westbury for the decorations, wouldn’t have looked as great without them. For those who feel like they missed the boat on this we will repeat the Aussie Theme just after we return to school next year & then we will visit another country later in the term. More information to come!

09.01.2022 Hello Everyone. I am completely chuffed at the feedback Ive been receiving from our teachers, parents, children & P&C. Im thrilled all the kids are enjoying our little cooking lessons. On returning to the kitchen for a second session this week one little girl put her hand up to say how lovely is was to see me again. The cooking is always fun for me especially the sharing of my skills however the unexpected conversations have been most surprising. One hot topic in parti...cular has been food origins, the kids are looking to know where their food comes from. How awesome is that?! 09.01.2022 Hello Everyone. So as Ive already mentioned 2019 will see some changes at Bengello Bites Canteen. The first major one is to our trading days. As of week 1, term 1 this year we will no longer be open on Mondays, instead we will be open on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. This big change will give us more trading days over the year that we usually miss out on due to student free days & public holidays. ... It will also allow us to streamline some of our operating practices and reduce costs. So share this post & tell your friends. 08.01.2022 Hello! Saturday 23rd March while the voters roll through, Bengello Bites will be running a BBQ as a fundraiser for our Healthy Canteen, and we need some helpers! There will be many snags to turn, and cold drinks to be served up so if you can give us a hand please shout out. You can contact the office to put your name down, or pop into the canteen during the week, or send me a message via Facebook. Many hands make for short shifts.

07.01.2022 One more post for the day... Its a new year, wanna be a new volunteer? We will be starting off the year with only four volunteers. One Mum, two Grandmothers & one member of our extended community. We would really like a few more. There are so many options here. If your not great at making lunches you could come into serve the kids? Or simply wash a few dishes. Can you come in an hour or two early for school pick up? Or hang around after drop off? Its fun! 07.01.2022 Hello! Well the time is approaching... back to school! Happy or sad its all happening next week! Our new menus will go home on Wednesday & Thursday so please have a rummage in the school bags and find your copy. As always if you didnt get one they are available from the office, canteen, here on our Facebook page and on the school website (not yet updated but should be by next Wednesday). Our first trading day for the year will be Friday the 1st of February. Looking forward to seeing you all back for another year at Broulee. Belle

04.01.2022 Well.... the end of today saw the last students visit the canteen for cooking lessons. All of our 360 odd kids have come though at some stage during the last three weeks. To say Im pooped is an understatement however I also feel pretty chuffed that all the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope they have told you all about it. Where to now for the canteen? Not exactly sure but we will have a better idea next week. Have a lovely long weekend.
