24.01.2022 Whoo hoo! We have 200 likes. All of our likes are ‘organic’. Given our demographics with many participants who don’t use social media, this is a fabulous milestone. Stay tuned to this page and our website for news about reopening for onsite activities next year. Although our doors have been closed since March, in reality we’ve increased our community engagement in many ways throughout the pandemic. Onsite classes and social activities will return in a Covid Safe socially dist...anced way (subject to government restrictions and health requirements) in February 2021, with online options continuing into the future due to any restrictions on group size and density quotient in place at the time. Here is our Zoom Art class with artist Anthony Galea. Such beautiful works on paper using the wonders of digital technologies. Classes will remain on Zoom until 11th December. The office will be closed from 16th December to 27th January. Stay safe lovely people. See more

20.01.2022 Thanks and welcome to our new page followers. Stay in touch for news of our exciting Covid Safe mixed-mode delivery program for 2021. A reminder that the office will be closed from 16th December. Staff and tutors will have a well-earned break to return on 27th January (Covid Safe restrictions and requirements at the time will apply). A reminder that although numbers increased with the Premier’s latest announcement yesterday we are still subject to the 1 person per 4 square metre rule and class sizes will be limited in 2021 (unless this density quotient is reduced - which is a possibility between now and February).

18.01.2022 Brian W. Foley retired at the AGM after twenty six continuous years on the Committee of Management. Brian has the unique distinction of being the inaugural President commencing in 1994 and returning to the President’s role this year (2019-20) in what was his final year. A special award was presented to Brian at the AGM on Zoom today. Actually, it was delivered to Brian (contactlessly) last week and now sits proudly on his mantlepiece. Thanks for all you’ve done for the House over more than a quarter of a century Brian! Thanks to Will Fowles (Member for Burwood), Gladys Liu (Member for Chisholm) and Sharon Ellis (Mayor of Whitehorse) for joining our meeting.

17.01.2022 Slowly but surely we're improving the overall look and function of our website. What do you think of it so far? We get our clicks from Route 66!! https://bennettswoodnh.org.au/

12.01.2022 Tic tock, tick tock, time keeps slipping by. The words and music of Kutcha Edwards and artwork of kids and adults of the City of Monash. Take time to watch this beautiful animated video in celebration of NAIDOC Week 2020. Why are we posting this when we're in the City of Whitehorse? Three reasons: Proud Mutti Mutti man Uncle Kutcha Edwards is a member of the stolen generations and spent much of his childhood living in a Burwood Children's Home; Mayor of Monash Cr Brian Little... is a regular participant and supporter of our House; there was no NAIDOC celebration in Whitehorse of similar comparison. Congratulations to Monash Council for this heartfelt inclusive commemoration of NAIDOC Week 8 - 15 November 2020. We acknowledge that the activities undertaken at Bennettswood Neighbourhood House occur on the traditional lands of the Warundjeri-baluk people and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. https://www.monash.vic.gov.au//Community-Animation-with-Ku See more

08.01.2022 Today is National Police Remembrance Day, thanking the police who protect and serve Victorians, and honouring the members who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Our Police are doing an amazing job during this difficult time. If you need Police to attend anything non-urgent but of concern during this pandemic such as illegal gatherings you can call the Police Assistance Line 131444. The committee is made up of volunteers elected to represent the association members at the annual general meeting. Welcome to new committee member Ben Cole-de Witt in his first ever appointment to a committee of management. Casual committee vacancies come up from time to time so if you’re interested in having a role in the governance of the House feel free contact us here or email the House via the website.
