25.01.2022 We will be back on Saturday 29/8. Take care of yourselves and each other, stay safe and healthy.

22.01.2022 We're going back to four square metre rule inside to protect our customers and staff as much as we possibly can. So, our seating capacity will, unfortunately, be reduced again. Let's hope this outbreak is under control really soon. We're going back to four square metre rule inside to protect our customers and staff as much as we possibly can. 22.01.2022 Remember this pre Covid Benny's? Can't wait to get back to the way we were. But, in the mean time, with today's announcements, we will continue to stay shut until lockdown and Covid threat eases in our area. And, while we are not open I am trying to work out the safest way we can reopen when the time comes. Please look after yourselves and stay within your proper postcode, we can get through this if we all work together and are patient. Miss all our customers and staff soooo much!
22.01.2022 What an amazing response to my post yesterday. I really didn't expect such a big response. Ya'll are wonderful. Before I step down off my little platform I really want to indulgently say that I am a caucasian woman, I've lived in Australia my whole life and know no other home. But, with tears in my eyes and sorrow in my heart for what has been done and what is still being done, even in my cafe yesterday, I want to humbly and really sincerely say I believe - always was and always will be Aboriginal land. I promise my next post will be lighthearted and happy - promise!
20.01.2022 Medical advise is to rest my foot for a couple of days so we won't open tomorrow. We'll be back on the weekend.Medical advise is to rest my foot for a couple of days so we won't open tomorrow. We'll be back on the weekend.
19.01.2022 We won't be open over this school holidays. Really missing our lovely staff and customers but we have to do our bit to keep everyone safe. Our staff are busily being vaccinated so, hopefully, we will be open for Summer.
18.01.2022 We've now got oat milk for everyone who has been wanting it.
18.01.2022 Listening to what customers have been wanting for a while now we have decided to mix our menu up a bit. Want Eggs Benedict at 1pm, Tart and Salad at 8:30am or Smashed Avo from kitchen open to kitchen close - no problem. We now have a combined all day breakfast and lunch menu with some of old faves like French Toast with Fruit Maple Syrup and Organic Yoghurt back on the menu.
18.01.2022 We have a crook cook today so we won't be open . We'll be back tomorrow with a different, healthy cook .
18.01.2022 Wishing all our customers a lovely Christmas and very best wishes for a really good 2021. Stay safe, stay healthy and let's continue to all look after each other, from all of us at Benny's.
17.01.2022 We're finally in lockdown so sadly we will be closing our doors for a bit. Please stay safe, look after yourselves and be kind to each other.
16.01.2022 Lovely Michele has painted out our old menu blackboard and it's all ready for her to start putting up her new design. What will it be like - watch this space (no spoilers but palm trees are involved). So exciting.
15.01.2022 Katrina is recovering well from her carpal tunnel surgery but this leaves us without a mid-week cook for a bit. So, sadly, we will be weekends only until she is back on deck. We'll be open tomorrow and Sunday with Leanne and yours truely ready to cook up a storm for you and the coffee machine all fired up for you as well (can't beat that Daily Grind brew!)
15.01.2022 Dilemma - how much is too much to try to do our bit in keeping us all safe? We'll, I'm running the risk of people thinking I'm crazy but our staff will be wearing masks when they are out from behind the counter. At least until the current spike is under control again.
15.01.2022 Really sorry, but Jill is having trouble with a rather sore foot and is going to get the doctors opinion rather than stand on it again today, so we won't be opening.
14.01.2022 Eeek guys - a positive case in Wollongong. Rest assured we've got Benny's as safe as we can for you to enjoy. Let's mask up everyone and help this little bit of paradise safe for locals and visitors alike.
13.01.2022 More good Benny's news. Our dishwasher is finally fixed so no more bamboo cutlery and sugarcane plates (as soon as we get all of our stored cutlery and crockery unpacked). Wow, working dishwasher AND working coffee machine - were just like a real café!
13.01.2022 Good news, bad news and then more good news. Katrina will be back with us for the school holidays with two working hands, yay. I had surgery on my foot yesterday and have six weeks until I can get back to usual activities. Our lovely daughter Kate will take over running the cafe for the school holidays, and after them, until I'm okay. We should be back to as normal as Covid will allow for the Christmas holidays.
11.01.2022 As always, all our baking is done right here on the premises using old fashioned, homestyle recipes. No added preservatives, no artificial colours, nothing generic and/or factory made, just our best for you.
11.01.2022 Hope the right people read this. Huge thanks to all the lovely, understanding customers we have had to turn away as we have such limited seating. Also, thanks to the people I have had to ask to cut their visit short to allow others to use their table. Nothing about running a cafe during Covid is easy, but such patient and generous folk certainly help a lot. So please accept my gratitude and feel really good about yourself, you should.
11.01.2022 Tomorrow is a World Bamboo Day. Plenty of that around Benny's. We'll be open all weekend and we're even using bamboo cutlery, not to celebrate Bamboo Day but as a Covid precaution until we can get out dishwasher serviced.
10.01.2022 Happy and fresh for breakfast this morning.
10.01.2022 I have just witnessed the worst case of racism I have seen in Culburra in the five and a half years we've owned Benny's, and sadly it happened in our shop. Needless to say I yelled at the man (couldn't help it, my heart rate is still high!) and I threw him out. But, I just want to put it out there for the record - racism, homophobia, transphobia, religious bigatory, abelism, ageism or any other form of bigatory against the humans we share this planet with will not be tolerated under any circumstances at Benny's on our watch. I feel sick to the stomach for the local lady who was the victim of this horrid man's tongue. This ridiculous racism has to stop. We all need to stand up in whatever small way we can, hence this post. I only have a very small platform as the owner of a country cafe but I will unapologetically use what I have.
09.01.2022 Eeeek, more changes to the Covid laws. To be able to increase our outdoor seating to the relaxed two metre rule we have to collect dine in information via QR code. We can no longer use pen and paper to have our customers sign in. This is going to affect any café/restaurant with outdoor dining so, in order to be able to visit these places, you will need to have a QR code app downloaded on your phone. We are using the Services NSW and are quite happy with it so far.
09.01.2022 Another addition to make sure socially distancing is followed as much as we can. We've now divided our eat in area from take away and ordering and are asking all our take away customers to wait outside to ensure we stay under 4 square metres per person. Doing everything we can to keep everyone as safe as we can.
09.01.2022 As this current wave of Covid is increasing across our state we have decided that as part of our duty of care to our customers, both local and visiting, to our staff and to our community we will no longer do pen and paper sign in for dine in patrons. We want to make any necessary contact tracing as easy as possible for the people working so hard to keep us safe. So, Services NSW QR code system will need to be used to dine in at Benny's going forward during this pandemic. We w...ill not require signing in for take away orders (unless the laws change). If anyone is having difficulty downloading or understanding the QR system we will do our best to help out but that won't include signing in with pen and paper. This whole horrible situation won't last forever and we look forward to going back to being relaxed old Benny's with our unofficial community library and toys for kids, no plexiglass nor masks, no X's to stand on 1.5 metres apart and not a QR code in sight. But until then we will do everything we can to keep our people safe. - Jill and John See more
08.01.2022 Our coffee machine just got 2020ed. We can't use it until our coffee doctor Jack gets it a new mother board which will hopefully be tomorrow but might not be until Monday. There is no point opening a coffee shop within no coffee, so yet again we are having to close our doors. I'll keep you posted as to when we can open up again.
07.01.2022 Sorry we've been closed for a couple of days. I've been pretty off colour (not Covid - I got tested) but I don't want to pass anything on so we won't open tomorrow either. Hopefully back on Thursday.
06.01.2022 Just want to reassure all our customers that we are following all the governments' requirements regarding Covid and then some, keeping Benny's as safe for you as we possibly can. Please help us by being okay about signing in (were using the Services NSW app) and waiting outside for take aways. Our staff are doing their very best through difficult times and the many extra Covid related protocols in our cáfe and we really appreciate all of them, we are so lucky to have such an extraordinary team.
04.01.2022 Okay, I'm really hating Covid, we have staff rostered on tomorrow who have mild cold symptoms and they can't work until they're tested and come back clear. Chances can't be taken with their health nor our customers. So, unfortunately, our doors will be closed again tomorrow. So far I've not heard anything from Sunday's staff so hopefully we'll be open then. We will get through this awful, uncertain time and shake our heads when we remember 2020.
03.01.2022 We are really having a spate of bad luck lately in keeping to regular hours. I don't have a cook again today, no fault of her own, but family and their health always have to come first. So, again, sorry but we won't be able to open today. Back tomorrow.
03.01.2022 So proud of these great people who have been part of the Benny's team for most of their high school lives and are now doing Covid year 12. Kayleigh Sleath has been awarded the 'Engineering Advancement Access' Scholarship at ANU while she completes her double degree Batchelor of Engineering and Batchelor of Mathmatics. Helani Dhama has been accepted to her first choice of Humanitarian and Development Studies at Western Sydney and also got an offer for Social Science and an int...erview for Social Work at UOW. Ethan Dhama has been offered Alternate Pathway (make up of Multimedia Studies before entry) into his first choice and offered similar for his second, both at UOW. These three, along with our newest team member, Charlotte, are soon to do their HSC exams and we wish all four the very best of luck.
03.01.2022 Customer Kirra and I have been chatting about our French Toast with fruit and organic yoghurt. She says it is her favourite brekie at our place and she sent us this picture of her meal last Sunday morning. Thanks Kirra, so glad you enjoyed it.
01.01.2022 With lockdown extended we will not be opening for a while. Just want to tell all our lovely customers that we are missing you and that we are looking forward to seeing you all again on the other side. Please stay safe and look after yourselves and each other. With lockdown extended we will not be opening for a while. 01.01.2022 We have coffee and are open! Thanks to the wonderful people at Daily Grind and our coffee machine wizard Jack.
01.01.2022 Time for a little break. Katrina is having carpel tunnel surgery so will be out of action for a bit so I'm going to take a much-needed wee winter break. We will be closed tomorrow (Friday) open on the weekend and then closed from Monday (17/8) reopening on Saturday (29/8). We will work out hours during Katrina's recovery after her surgery.
01.01.2022 Saturday and Sunday will be Leanne's last two days dancing around, and cooking up a storm, in our kitchen. She and Martin are heading to the mid north coast for the next stage of their life adventure. So, make sure you take the chance to pop in and say goodbye to our crazy lady. She is going to be sorely missed, but we are so happy for them both that their plans are coming to fruition.
