25.01.2022 This guy shares my feelings about the coming cooler months With a drop in temps we have experienced in the past month as we’ve entered autumn, snake activity will continue to decline, snakes may still be sighted, mainly basking close to hiding places. In these crazy times I hope everyone is keeping themselves occupied, if you find yourself cleaning up your properties be aware when moving rubbish and garden waste around your property you may unearth some sleepy reptiles taki...ng refuge from the cooler weather. 25.01.2022 Some lovely warm weather over the next few days, should be some nice weather for our snakes to stretch their legs (haha couldn’t resist) But living safely with snakes is easy! Did you know that getting your property ready for snake season is almost identical to fire safety? ... Clean up any unwanted waste, keep grass short and plants trimmed up off the ground, any old building material or things that need storing should be stored up off the ground away from high traffic areas such as work spaces and homes. Reduce any available food for rodents, so store pet and stock feed in secure containers and clean up waste regularly. Living with snakes is not about keeping them out or away, but making it easy to spot them as they travel through populated areas and ensuring that they continue moving on. If you do see a snake, the best thing is to stand at a safe distance and keep an eye on them, most of the time they will move on pretty quickly. Most snakes are encountered while out hunting or looking for a mate, not looking for somewhere to stop and stay, but if you provide a nice bed and breakfast, who wouldn’t stop and stay a while? Hope everyone is ok with the world how it is at current If you find yourself with a snakey visitor that needs some help moving on give myself (0427769791) or your closest snake catcher a call

23.01.2022 The weather is on the up, with fantastic warm weather forecast for the next week, while you enjoy the sunshine be sure to keep an eye out for our snakes Remember to keep calm, give the snake space, and neither you or the snake will have a bad day. Enjoy the sunshine folks

22.01.2022 It’s going to be a beautiful day today, and beautiful days mean beautiful snakes! I’ll be out and about catching all day if needed 0427769791

21.01.2022 Most situations involving a dead snake, upset me greatly, but on occasion, the natural order shows itself and displays the wonder that is our natural world. Snakes are predators, but are in no way the top of the food chain. Snakes are in-fact a very important member of that food chain, and they fit swiftly in the middle of it.... Snakes are preyed on by a huge number of species, with birds of prey being one of the group of animals that frequently catch and eat them. This is a huge part of the reason that snakes are so shy and very quick to leave a confrontation with a larger animal than themselves. If you where an animal that when it encountered a larger animal than itself, there is a large chance you are on their menu, with some of these animals dropping swiftly from the skies, there is a high chance you will actively hide and move away from animals larger than themselves. So keep in mind, if you find yourself having an interaction with a snake, it is not there to harm you, all it wants to do is get away, because to the snake, you are about to try and eat them. So please, if you see a snake, leave it alone, give it space, and everyone will have a good day!

21.01.2022 Let’s celebrate world snake day with one of the most misunderstood species in Australia, the eastern brown snake!

18.01.2022 Sometimes even in the cooler months we get the occasional callout, this young brown snake had found himself in a building at a business that I attend regularly throughout the year. Snakes that are seen in cooler months, will usually be just stunning themselves, but younger snakes like this little cutie will be able to utilise the sun we have been getting of late to warm themselves up enough to very occasionally get themselves into places that aren’t the best. Any time a catcher releases a snake it is very important that where it is released provides sufficient cover so the snake does not very quickly become victim to a predator or the elements, this is of particular importance during these cooler months

18.01.2022 Some lovely weather over the next couple days Should be very good weather for snakes to be out and about; if you find yourself with an uninvited guest to your weekend Christmas party, remember to stay calm, keep and eye on the snake from a safe distance and call your closest snake catcher. Heres a cute little lowlands copperhead from this morning

17.01.2022 With some pretty hectic heat on the way in the coming week, it’s a good time for a reminder that snakes, just like us, don’t like this extreme heat On these hot days it is important to remember that snakes are looking for places to escape the heat, so be mindful that snakes may end up in sheds, under verandas and even inside houses. Don’t leave doors open, and ensure appropriate weather sealing is installed to ensure gaps under doors are blocked. ... When we have warm nights there is a high chance of snake activity during the night so it is important to carry a torch and wear appropriate footwear when out at night. When the eventual cool change hits, be aware that snakes will enjoy it as much as we do, so before you let the pets out, and the kids to enjoy the lower temps, a quick check of the backyard before letting them out can save a lot of issues And as always if you do have a scaly Visitor, do not interact with it, keep an eye on it, and if you need it removed Call your closest snake catcher

16.01.2022 I hate bird netting, I’ve seen it used correctly, I’ve seen it used poorly and I’ve also on way to many occasions seen it used with every intention of harming wildlife. If you do insist on using netting on your fruit trees, do some research, ensure it is not sitting on the ground, and check it at least twice a day. If you find a snake in your netting, please do not attempt to help it yourself, the safest and smartest option is to keep that snake out of direct sunlight and cal...l a snake catcher. A snake in netting is in pain, is stuck, so therefore sees everything as a threat. Hopefully these laws do come into play and put more responsibility on stores selling the netting as well as ensuring the most wildlife friendly options are available. Spring has well and truely arrived, reptile’s are on the move, I am loving the sunshine and so are our snakes

15.01.2022 Do snakes love the hot weather? Not exactly. On days that start reaching temperatures above 30 most people will think that snakes will be out and about all day:... Funnily enough this isn’t true. Most people know snakes as cold blooded, but the more accurate term is ectothermic, this means that they regulate their body temperature by using their environment. This is in contrast to us, mammals, who regulate our body temperature through bodily functions such as sweating and shivering etc. If snakes or all reptiles for that matter, are getting too hot (yes they can get too hot) or too cold, the only way they can alter that is too move into a cooler or warmer area, this is why reptiles bask in the sun, to bring their body temperature up to their optimum body temperature before they begin hunting etc for the day, and they will continue this the thermoregulation throughout the day. Although a body temperature of a little over 30 degrees is usually almost perfect for most reptiles, why don’t they especially enjoy days above 30? When we have these hot days, although the ambient temps may be good, any direct sunlight on a reptile will be warming them further, and every surface, whether that be the ground, rocks, roads, logs etc, will be significantcantly hotter than the ambient temps if they are in the sun, so therefore any contact with these surfaces will increase a reptiles body temp even further. If a reptile gets to hot, just like us, it can be fatal. So on these warm days, particularly the extreme warm days it is important to be aware that snakes will most likely be looking for places to cool down, which fairly frequently leads them into our homes, sheds, under our verandas etc. So ensure you are using your screen doors, make sure you have appropriate weather sealing on your doors and be aware that snakes will be looking for cool places to hide, and once the sun goes down or the cool change hits, they will come out and enjoy the relief of cooler temps just like us, this means that you may have snakes activity into the evening on these warmer nights I’ll be out and about attending calls today and tomorrow with the warmer temps, if you have a scaley resident that you need moved on, give me a buzz 0427769791

15.01.2022 Busy couple days, ended with this beautiful little tiger who found his way into a car. Dropped right out of the the car door when we opened it up. We are getting more and more frequent nice weather, even though there are some ordinary days forecast for the next few days, snakes will most likely still be out and about. Enjoy your weekend folks!

14.01.2022 A little bit of shameless self promotion here, because well I’m pretty happy about it!

12.01.2022 I’m dreaming of this kind of weather right now! Although we are in the middle of some pretty cold and wet weather, 'snake season' is not far away, with September usually bringing with it some warmer weather and therefore snakes coming out of brumation to enjoy the sunshine. It is important at this time of the year to begin preparing your properties for the coming warmer months. ... Snake safety is also fire safety. Clean up and organise rubbish laying around your properties, whether that be plant matter, old building materials or just unused household items that have been banished out into the elements. Trim all plants up off the ground, reduce ground cover whether that be long grass and weeds or just ground cover plants that have become a little wild! These are just a few things you can start to do to prepare for this coming summer! Hope everyone is staying dry and warm!

11.01.2022 More hot weather today with storms and a cool change due this evening. Remember that in this heat snakes are looking for shady cool places to chill out in to ride out this heat, once the heat drops snake activity will increase, most likely resulting in a fair bit of snake activity in the evenings, past dark. Hope everyone is staying cool!

09.01.2022 The sun is out the occasional calls are now coming through, snake season is nearly here With people spending more time than usual at home, it’s a great time to ensure you have your yard nice and tidy, cut your grass, trim bushes up off the ground and most importantly get rid of anything unnecessary laying around the house, if we remove hiding places it is much more likely that If you do see a snake, it will just be moving on through, not finding somewhere to live Snak...es at the moment are mainly spotted out basking, but not much else, but as the weather warms they will start to venture away from their safe places in search of food and mates. += If you do see a snake, keep your distance, don’t interact with it or allow your pets to, and this will guarantee both you and the snake will have a good day. Snakes have no interest in people and will only want to get away from us Hope everyone is coping ok in the current climate, I will be available for snake removal during this period, but for both my customers and my own safety will be assessing every job as it comes through to whether or not my attendance is 100% essential

08.01.2022 A friend sent me this video a tiger they escorted off the road yesterday! A good reminder that with the warmer weather snakes and other reptiles such as lizards and turtles will be seen more frequently on our roads. If you see one on the road, please slow down, and avoid them.... If it’s safe to do so you can help turtles and lizards off the road, in the direction they where heading, if you see a snake on the road, just sit in your car until it has moved off the road! 06.01.2022 Just want to touch on something really quick... I have had multiple reports this evening of a large eastern brown snake in the grassy area of emu bottom wetlands in Sunbury. Although I do understand people’s concern around it’s presence, as it is a place that a lot of people visit and take their dogs to, the fact of the matter is that’s where snakes live as well.... Just a friendly reminder that when enjoying our lovely local area and the beautiful natural areas at our doorstep, that our wildlife lives there as well. As a snake catcher I am not authorised to remove snakes from these areas unless contacted by the council, nor will I remove them unless they are injured. I know people do sometimes have a fear of snakes but this doesn’t mean that they should be removed from every area possible Please respect our wildlife and their homes Here’s a beautiful red belly black snake in his beautiful home

06.01.2022 If you’ve followed my page for a while you might recall me talking about a customer, now friend, Peter, who I visit fairly regularly and wander around his old farm sheds that are very close to his house. Peter loves all wildlife and that includes snakes, he has a large amount of old tin wood etc laying around, consequently he has a fair few snakes that frequent these areas. Over the past 2 years I’ve moved a significant number of brown snakes from around his home, the onl...y reason we move them is that he has an old farm dog that he doesn’t trust to leave the snakes alone. Peter allows me to move the snakes only a few hundred metres to the back of his property where there is fantastic habitat for them. It’s really pleasing to meet people that have come from times when ‘a good snake is a dead snake’ was part of everyone’s up bringing, that have an intense respect and love for snakes. Today I visited Peter and he came with me while we checked under some of the tin etc laying around. We have been discussing for the past 2 years some darker, thicker looking snakes that he has spotted but never managed to get a photo of, I had suggested they where copperheads, but until today never had confirmation. Today was the day and we did find a copperhead living not too far from Peters house. To see the excitement from Peter on getting to finally see one of these brilliant snakes was fantastic. As you can see from one of the photos this snake had a fairly significant, yet old injury, reptiles are extremely resilient, after a quick check over I could see that the injury was old, and had healed over, no longer causing this snake any major issues. Peter was so happy to find this copperhead that he let me pop him back exactly where we found him, so hopefully I can keep an eye on this snake to ensure that the scaring from the injury improves as he sloughs (sheds) it’s skin. Happy days!

05.01.2022 We’ve reached that time of the year when regardless of the weather, there is a high chance snakes will be active during the day Not the best day today but found this beautiful tiger out for a cruise

05.01.2022 Please put aside a small amount of time to give this doco a watch that has been put together by Ross McGibbon Reptile Photography This is easily the best, most concise and easy to understand video I have seen, covering everything you need to know to understand our snakes and why we don’t have to fear them

02.01.2022 Snake season is well and truely under way, keep an eye out but don’t panic If you see snake, give it some space and enjoy your day Sorry I’ve been a bit quite of late, busy crazy times at the moment! Hope everyone is looking after themselves!... I’ve noticed I’m agonisingly close too 2000 likes, only few to go! Thanks everyone for the support
