18.01.2022 To many inside and out, BENS is Dallas Whittaker. For many years Dallas moulded BENS in his likeness. Dallas joined BENS as an Operator on 23 Feb 1998 when BENS was only 4 years old. He was a dependable Operator and quickly rose to be a Supervisor then Control Room Manager and in the last decade the General Manager. He is a well known personality in the Security Industry; very much respected and very much liked. In-house, as the GM, he cultivated a family-like atmosphere as h...e was, by nature, a very caring person. This is a great loss for BENS but his memory lives on. Most of the procedures we have; our rules and regulations were developed by Dallas. Dallas is survived by his 2 lovely boys (now men), Jacob and Brendon. We offer our deepest condolences to his boys and their mother Jacqui and his immediate family. I have lost a good loyal friend and confidant. Dallas, may you rest in peace. Lee Nov 2018

18.01.2022 NBN and your Back-to-Base Monitoring Service 1. With NBN your Alarm system will continue to work without any changes. It Must. 2. It is highly recommended to have a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) backup for the NBN NTU (Network Termination Unit) and your router(s) connected to it.... 3. If your Alarm Service is already on IP (Fibre, Ethernet, ADSLx, 3G, 4G etc) you need not do anything. However, if your IP Alarm System communicates solely over 3G/4G you may want to use the IP communications over the NBN in addition or as a replacement. This will save costs and/or increase your level (Class) of Security. 4. If your Alarm Service is not on IP, continuing to use a Dialer Alarm System will cost more with NBN. Legacy devices like Dialer Alarm Systems, Fax machines, the old telephone handsets require Analogue lines. NBN provides analogue lines through the UNI-V Port that will add about $20/month to the NBN service (possibly buried in the bundled package). Moreover alarm transmissions over the NBN Uni-V Port is made as a telephone call that costs 49c for each call (an increase of about 40% to pre NBN alarm calls). ADVICE: Get an NBN Service without Uni-V Port and switch your Alarm System to IP. With NBN your Alarm Service will cost more whether you switch to IP or not but with IP it will be less costly in the long run and you have the option of getting a higher level (Class) Security Service. 5. With an IP Alarm System you must consider the Class of the service, usually referred to as the Polling Plan, that you require. Unlike Dialer Alarm Systems, IP Alarm Systems monitor the communications channel. With residential services it is recommended to have a Polling plan of at most 24 hours (Class 2 - where a fault in the communications, offline, is detected within 24 hours). Class 5 is the highest class and it has a Polling plan of 20s (a fault in communications is detected within 20s). 6. Beware that the bundling of alarm services in bundled plans may change your Alarm Service Provider and may cost more. Study NBN bundled deals carefully. Your current Alarm Service Provider will be more than happy to help you with this. Give them a call.

17.01.2022 APP NOTIFICATIONS!!! No extra charges hidden or otherwise with our Back-to-Base service. For those unaware, BENS has been offering this service for well over 4 ...years now (early 2013). All adopters of this service love it. It is not SMS; It is not confined to any Alarm System; it is not confined only to messages from the Alarm Panels; and best of all it does not cost extra above your Monitoring Charges. BENS App Notifications can be configured to send all messages (including messages/actions generated by BENS) to up to 4 users with 4 devices (mobiles, tablets, wearables etc) each. It's instantaneous sharing of situations with your trusted people and BENS. You can monitor who opens up and who closes up and who comes after hours as it happens. With this, you don't need BENS to handle After Hours Entry and Late-to-Close if you so choose...eliminating the handling of calls from BENS of out of character egress that you are probably aware of. You have to use it to appreciate how proactive/reactive you can be in keeping your properties and/or loved ones safe. #catchClip #AppNotifications

12.01.2022 Back-to-Base Monitoring Service Cancellation If a client wishes to terminate their Back-to-Base Monitoring service, it is prudent to advise the client that the service needs to be de-commissioned properly by a licensed alarm technician. An improperly decommissioned service can cause unintended charges (sometimes at a very much later date); For example when the service is unintentionally put back on the network and signals are sent over the telephone network.... In decommissioning the alarm panel, zero out the account ID and programme out the numbers used to report back to BENS; Power Down the Alarm Panel and any other communicating devices that are solely used by the Alarm Panel; Inform the client and BENS in writing that the Monitoring Service is cancelled. Some charges may still apply as some services by 3rd parties are charged to the end of the month. If the client does not want to have the service decommissioned by you that you should confirm that in writing to them as a record.

08.01.2022 TPG maintenance work on nearby infrastructure has led to an outage in some of our BENS and Controlroom web services. We have re-pointed our web services to an alternate connection and they will restore shortly as the domain update propagates throughout the internet. Your data has not been affected by this issue. During this maintenance work, TPG was unable to restore our previous IP address. Some IP panels may be affected by this, we are working on a solution.
