20.01.2022 The Agents Life If you are going to read this, please read all the way to the end (and yes, it is a long one) As a real estate agent, we can work long hours and spend a lot of time away from our families. Many people think that the life of a real estate agent is easy, but this is far from the truth. We do a lot behind the scenes that people don’t realise.... Part of what goes behind the scene’s is that we form connections with our clients. Personally for me, if I am lucky enough to be afforded the opportunity to represent a clients property, then these people are welcoming me into their home and to a degree their family. They place a certain level of trust in what I do, and in return, I do the very best job that I can do for my clients. But along the way, we can truly be accepted as a friend by our clients. I have met some absolutely wonderful people along the way, and it is truly hard not to form a connection of some degree with some people and in a sense, become part of their family. However, today I bumped into a past client that I worked with recently and was given some heartbreaking news her husband of 50(ish) years had just passed away suddenly. I instantly felt a sadness for their loss not the kind you just tell people because it’s what they want to hear. As an agent, we spend a lot of time talking with our clients whether its meeting them for the first time to introduce ourselves, signing a contract of sale, sitting with them to discuss feedback on the property or whether it’s the last time that they will see their home when you collect the keys from them to give to the buyer of their home. When you have a genuine connection with these people, you get affected by this news. I have been in this situation before being told about sudden passings, life affecting diseases and loads of other personal stories from clients and it is truly difficult to hear these stories because I generally hear them from past clients or even sometimes current clients. The life of a REAL real estate agent is not easy, but it’s one that I truly love because I get the opportunity to meet amazing people and see some spectacular homes and become a part of other people’s lives. It’s what takes me away from my family and with a successful result, I am rewarded with not only a commission cheque, but with the ability to have some clients I can truly call friends at the end of the process. To the family who has just lost a loved one from the bottom of my heart sorry for your loss!
