22.01.2022 Last week we welcomed back all the families from Isolation. The children loved exploring the new and exciting room changes and experiences that were thoughtfully placed out for them from our discussions and interactions over zoom during isolation. Throughout the centre sustainability and the environment has been a core focus through our projects, discussions and programs. The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in planting a vertical garden in our toddler/3 year ...old kinder yard, as well as the 4 year old Kinders, discovering the progress of their vegetable garden. The children have utilised our recyclable items to create unique arts and crafts pieces to display throughout the rooms. It has been such a wonderful thing to see our children settle back into care with ease and excitement and even having some new friends join our BCK family. See more

17.01.2022 Autumn is one of the wondrous seasons that tempts childrens curiosity and wonder about the environment they live in. Our beautiful autumn trees in the kinder room have been shedding lots of leaves which has allowed the children to discover and discuss the colours and textures they have found in the yard. The children in our 3 & 4 year old Kinder assisted educators with raking the leaves in the yard, showing excitement and joy as they threw them up in the air and covered eac...h other with them. This type of play demonstrates an enriched type of learning, allowing the children to connect with their environment and the nature around them. The children used these leaves to extend on their curiosity by imprinting them on paper using pencils and crayons and discovering the lines on the leaves.

14.01.2022 Our Kinder children have been showing a significant interest in puzzles; ranging in different shapes, sizes and pieces. We have noticed many children have mastered 12-piece puzzles and are aiming to explore more complex puzzles. We have been extending on this by introducing more challenging pieces to progress and strengthen the children's abilities physically and cognitively. Puzzle play strengthens a child's spatial awareness, concentration, shape recognition, problem solv...ing,fine motor skills and communication with one another. It also assists in building self esteem, confidence and sense of achievement. Well done to our clever Kinders. See more

13.01.2022 This week we acknowledged and recognised NAIDOC Week. A celebration held across Australia each year observing the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. During this week, the educators and children have been engaging in various experiences and discussions to support their awareness of this culture. The children took part in hearing different Dreamtime Stories, painting rocks with traditional symbols and creating their own flags ...and Digeridoos. These activities created opportunities for discussion around how Aboriginal Australians use various ways to communicate and tell stories through symbols, pictures, sound and dance. See more

09.01.2022 Educators Donna and Helen are demonstrating our daily acknowledgement of country with our toddlers. An acknowledgement of country is a way of showing respect to the traditional owners of the land. It encourages children to engage with diversity and respect. The Early Years Learning Framework advocates for all children to be meaningfully connected with and contribute to their world, to not only have a positive sense of self-identity, but also to experience respectful and responsive relationships with other people and places alike.

08.01.2022 Diwali is a Festival of Lights and one of the major festivals celebrated mainly by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. The children enjoyed dressing in Sarees, listened to traditional Indian music and explored a range of colourful creative materials during their day. Educators Preeti and Alka discussed how they celebrated at home and even all of the delicious food they ate!... The educators also came together and dressed in traditional sarees. It was a beautiful day filled with love, laughter and colour.
08.01.2022 Last week the centre celebrated a Hindu festival called Holi. The Nursery and Pre-Toddlers used their fingers to create art pieces that displayed their individuality and the many colours that represent this day of spreading happiness and love. Our Toddlers and 3 year old Kinders used spray bottles to add their splashes of colours for the day, while the Kinder 4 children used balloons to create a masterpiece together.... The meaning behind this festival is An ancient Hindu festival, which later became popular among the Hindu communities. Holi heralds the arrival of spring after winter. It signifies the victory of good over evil and is celebrated as a day of spreading happiness and love. The festival is also celebrated as thanksgiving for good harvest. The children were able to engage in a symbolic day and use their fine motor and sensory exploration through their art and craft experiences.

07.01.2022 Our Pre Toddlers have been busy exploring our creative station this week. The toddlers enjoyed using their hands and fingers to mix the paint and make marks to create their own design. Children are active learners exploring the world through touch, sight, sound, taste, smell and movement. ... A childs brain develops rapidly through physical explorations and their active engagement with others who speak and respond to their interests. Childrens brain synapses fire away as they experiment and create and this experience provided the opportunity to develop fine motor skills, hand eye co-ordination, creativity and early literacy.
07.01.2022 In the Kinder room this week we have been learning about the different life cycles of insects. The children have been finding millipedes, grubs and worms in our garden. On Thursday our life cycle focus was on the Caterpillar. ... Nancy read The Very Hungry caterpillar and created an opportunity for the Kinders to bring the magic of the story to life through role play. Nancy created a green leaf using a large piece of material; cutting large circles in it. This material represented the caterpillars leaf, and the circles what the caterpillar ate throughout the week. As the story was read, the children recalled what foods the Caterpillar ate on each day. Each child had the opportunity to participate; collaborating as a team to re-enact the story and engage with its characters. As we reached the cocoon phase, we crouched down together and waited for the final page. Out emerged two children wearing beautiful rainbow wings to create our butterflies. This experience allowed the children to build on their confidence and concentration; developing their language and communication skills. This immersive storytelling technique encourages children to work together using their imagination and social skills whilst supporting their numeracy skills through counting.
04.01.2022 Bentleighs Bedtime Stories Our wonderful Early Childhood Teacher Nancy takes us on a journey with The Very Hungry Caterpillar in our Bedtime Story Collection. Whats your favourite story before bed?
04.01.2022 The children in our Nursery room have been expressing their curiosity and adventurous nature for the past few weeks. With strength, confidence and an eagerness for walking they have been grabbing onto furniture and steady objects to lift themselves onto their feet while taking a few steps. Challenging themselves further, they have also begun climbing the equipment both inside and outside. Our older Nursery children are challenging themselves by climbing the A-Frames and taking daring jumps on to the fall mats. This type of development and play demonstrates the children are feeling safe, secure and confident in their environment. While developing more on their sense of balance, coordination, concentration, persistence and gross motor skills.
