23.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 will not look like the ANZAC Day that so many of us are used to participating in. There will be a Dawn Service, wreaths will be laid, the last post will be played, a minute of silence in memory of the fallen will be observed, but the service community and the public will be asked to stay at home. While you can't go to the Shrine of Remembrance or a local Dawn Service, the RSL is asking that instead you #STANDTO. As the Last Post is played during the ANZAC Day D...awn Service walk outside, stand in your yard, driveway, or on your balcony and observe a minute of silence in respect of our veterans. Make sure that you snap a quick picture and share it right here on our Facebook page using the hashtag #STANDTO. Together, let's amplify our commitment to the ANZAC spirit. Lest We Forget
22.01.2022 Sharing a series of interesting facts and photos this week leading up to ANZAC Day. Glenn Sanders, General Manager, Bentleigh and Cheltenham RSL recently had the privilege of visiting High Tree Cemetery earlier this year. The High Tree Cemetery is the furthest point (most Eastern) on the Western front where Australian lives were lost. There are 4 Australians buried here, we laid a poppy in front of every grave. This is a memorial rarely visited as it is a long way, but well ...worth it. 1672 Private Charles Edmund Bateman 2nd Australian Pioneers 5th October 1918, aged 42. Row A. 45. Son of William George and Ann Bateman. Native of London, England. A farmer of East Brookton, WA, he enlisted on 17 June 1915 and embarked on the HMAT Demosthenes from Fremantle, with the 28th Battalion. 3698 Private Alfred Preston gave these details of Charles Bateman's final moments; "During the morning of October 5th 1918. Capt. Olsen advised Bateman not to go up to the lines on this occasion as he wanted him to stay back for other duties but he was most anxious to be with his mates and he persuaded the Capt. to allow him to go, which he did. Bateman was killed on the tape by a shell which fell short by one of own guns. He would be buried on the field where he fell at Montbrehain." 22.01.2022 The Poppy Appeal is still running for 2020, but things will be different this year. We still need your support to purchase a Poppy which goes towards helping veterans and their families in need. Our dedicated volunteers will not be selling out on the streets this year, but we welcome everyone to come into the RSL and purchase a Poppy from reception. The generosity and support from our members have always been overwhelming so buy your badge and donate to this worthy cause. We Will Remember Them.
21.01.2022 Hopefully we'll be able to re-open real soon - stay tuned for more details...

ANZAC COVE- It became famous as the site of World War I landing of the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) on 25 April 1915. Following the landing at Anzac Cove, the beach became the main base for the Australian and New Zealand troops for the eight months of the Gallipoli campaign. Glenn Sanders, General Manager of Bentleigh and Cheltenham RSL was fortunate to visit earlier this year. https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au//gallipo/landing-anzac-cove

13.01.2022 This ANZAC Day, we will not be gathering at the local cenotaph or gathering together to bow our heads in silence and listen to the bugles at dawn. But we will still remember the sacrifice of those who gave so much for us at Gallipoli and on many fronts. Today Mr Warrick McDonald, President of Bentleigh RSL paid his respect by laying a wreath of flowers at the Cenotaph and Reflection Pool at Bentleigh RSL. It's always important for us to reflect and respect. Lest we forget.

Pat still walks everywhere on her own and with some support from Mecwacare is still very independent.... We surprised Pat with a cake and gifts at her doorstep. Happy Birthday!!!
