24.01.2022 Miss Brentons Year 10 Introduction to Hospitality students have been working very hard this term completing design challenges. The first was creating and cooking two dishes that could be served out of a food truck and the second was a series of three challenges focusing on restaurant style appetisers and salads, and also service. The third challenge was to work in groups to research and design one hot dessert and one cold dessert to present over two lessons. The students pr...oduced high-quality dishes and they should be very proud of themselves. The final design challenge for the term was a cake decorating course run by Dale and Bec from Jackleys Bakery, followed by students designing their own cupcakes to cook and present. Dale and Bec generously offered three hours of their afternoon to come and take our students through all things cake and cupcake decorating. They shared the history of their business and some behind the scenes videos of their kitchen and cake decorating at their store in Mount Sheridan. This course lead students into a design challenge where students have to create and decorate cupcakes based on a theme they choose. It was a very inspiring and valuable course that students are very grateful to be part of. Thank you Dale and Bec! And thank you Miss Brenton for her stunning food photography!

21.01.2022 Like many cohorts before them, the 2020 Bentley Originals had an opportunity to take a traditional tour of the Primary Sector to meet up with staff and relieve their junior years. This year there are 22 Bentley Originals, Year 12s who have been at the College since Prep or Year 1. Their Primary tour, on Tuesday 1 September, took in the office, library, sports hall, playgrounds and classrooms. To mark the occasion, students received a certificate and also a Bentley Originals k...ey ring from the P&C. As you can see in the photos the students seemed to really enjoyed the event - thank you to all the staff who made it special for them. #bentleyoriginals #stayconnectedbpc #qldstateschools #qldeducation

17.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers Term 4 Events Term 4 is traditionally the time for our showcase events such as Presentation Night, the Year 12 Graduation, Clontarf Graduation and Year 6 Celebration. Following current Queensland health and safety guidelines and in consultation with the Parents & Citizens Association, this years events will be student-only and held in school time. ... We understand it may be disappointing for parents/carers to be unable to attend these special occasions. After the success of the video coverage of our Formal Arrivals, the College will be employing the company to record and edit our main Term 4 events for us to share on our YouTube channel and Facebook page for families and friends to view. Presentation Day Our Presentation Night will now become a student-only Presentation Day for relevant students from Year 5 to Year 12, to be held on Tuesday 17 November (Term 4 Week 7) in the College Theatre. The event will be filmed and edited and then premiered on our YouTube channel and Facebook page on the evening of Thursday 19 November. Clontarf Graduation The Clontarf Graduation will also occur on Tuesday 17 November, shortly after Presentation Day. Also student-only, it will be filmed and edited and then uploaded online at a later date. Year 12 Graduation On their final day of school, Friday 20 November, Year 12s will assemble before school in the Primary Sector. The traditional Guard of Honour will be formed by Prep to Year 11 students, culminating at the College Theatre. The 12 Year Graduation Ceremony, also a student-only event, will then be held. This event will be recorded and also live streamed. More details, including exact time and online link to the live stream, will be provided to Year 12 students, parents and carers early in Term 4. An edited version will also be uploaded online later. Year 6 Celebration The Year 6 Celebration will occur during class time on Tuesday 8 December, Term 4 Week 10. It will also be student-only. The event will be recorded and edited and the footage uploaded online later. Media Consent For students to be filmed in any of the events above, parents/carers must have completed, signed and returned a State School Consent Form. They cover our newsletter, website, Facebook and Instagram pages, YouTube channel and wider media and publications. Consent is voluntary and if you would prefer not to give media consent, your student will still receive their award/certificate. However, we will be unable to present it to them at the ceremony as it will be filmed and screened online. We look forward to our Term 4 events and thank you in advance for your understanding of the format changes this year. Yours sincerely Bruce Houghton College Principal Link to State School Consent Form on our website: https://bentleyparkcollege.eq.edu.au//state-school-consent
16.01.2022 Student Free Days on 10 and 11 December 2020 Your patience and flexibility during this pandemic have been extraordinary. This year will be remembered for many things, not least a year of challenge, uncertainty and great complexity. Everyone has been affected by COVID-19. While many in our communities across the state have contributed to ensuring Queensland families remain healthy and safe, I think we all would agree our state school teachers and school staff have done an incr...edible job at leading our childrens education. In recognition of their outstanding efforts during the pandemic, the Queensland Government has declared the last two days of Term 4, 2020, Thursday 10 December and Friday 11 December, 2020, be allocated as student free days. Schools will be closed on these days. This will come as great news for those who are keen to begin their school holidays early. For some families, alternative arrangements will need to be made for the care of children on these two days. You can view the updated school holiday and term dates and download the calendar at https://education.qld.gov.au/about-us/calendar/term-dates. Educating our children is a team effort. On behalf of our teaching and school staff, I would like to thank you for your support and cooperation during this year. Yours sincerely Bruce Houghton College Principal

13.01.2022 Basketball players from the Southside Flyers - Rebecca Pizzey, Saraid Tayor, Monique Conti and Taylah Giliam - visited today to complement our Year 5/6 Basketball Super League lunch time competition. Based in Dandenong, the team is currently in Cairns for the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL). The players had a Q&A session, conducted some fun shooting activities and offered coaching tips. Resilience was a big focus, given the players had to relocate from Victoria to... Queensland to be able to play in the competition this year, the same way resilience has been a focus for our students all year. Students Liddy-Faith, Tiffany, Sarah Alexandra, Dearna, and Sofia were amongst the students who enjoyed meeting the Southside Flyers today. Nine News Far North Queensland attended the session so keep an eye out on the news tonight or tomorrow night!
12.01.2022 Finally, some Rugby League was able to be played after a term's hiatus. This term it was time for the U15 and Opens sides to play out their competitions. The U15 side was composed of students in Year 9 and 10 who played in a small four team competition involving St Marys Catholic College, Cairns State High School and St Augustines College. The team did very well winning two out of their three games with some standout performances from Liam O. and Josh S. The Opens side went... away for their annual camp to Townsville and play against Thuringowa State High School for the Catalano Cup, stopping off overnight at Mission Beach on the way. A solid all-round team performance secured the 28-18 win and brought the shield back to Bentley Park College. Tries to William N, Stephen L, Izaac W, and Devonte W. were backed up by powerful performance by Turahi W. and Tokyo R. in the middle. Their season was a little different winning two out of their six games against St Marys Catholic College and Cairns State High School. The game of the season and easily the best Opens game Ive seen in the three years Ive been a teacher at BPC was against Trinity Bay State High School. The energy and intensity in defence was unbelievable. Standouts from the season were Lachlon R, Rhyan W. and Del W. On Week 10 Thursday, there was representation from the Crusaders in the U13 and U15 categories at the inaugural St Marys Rugby League Sevens. More on that next term! We're looking forward to a break over the holidays before returning to Term 4 with the Year 8 Schoolboys Competition. Go Crusaders! Mr Cameron Tattersall, Rugby League Coordinator - [email protected]

09.01.2022 Congratulations to The Class of 2020! They graduated this morning in a ceremony in our Student Centre hosted by Year 12 Coordinator Mr Peter Sceresini. College Captains Izaac Watego-Morgan, Claudia Lever, Ayesha Khan and Zaria Chang, College Principal Mr Bruce Houghton and Head of School Secondary Mr Stuart Edwards gave their final addresses to the cohort before each student was presented with their graduation pack on stage.... Thank you to our 2021 College Captains India, Jasmine, Nick and David for assisting with the presentation. A final word from Mr Sceresini, with his Year Coordinator's Address below: To the legends graduating in 2020, At the beginning of the year I was thrown in the deep end as your Year Coordinator after the great Mr Wales changed careers. It was a daunting task, but I am so glad that I agreed and that you welcomed me with open arms. You have endured some of the most testing moments during your schooling career out of any students in recent years. Being the first students to start High School in Year 7, the first Seniors to graduate with an ATAR score and the first cohort to survive an international pandemic, 2020 has proven to be one of the toughest years of your lives. But the positive is, we have made it! After online learning from home, a Formal with no dancing and the many other sacrifices along the way, we can finally say that we survived. As a cohort, the strength and resilience shown by you all has been truly outstanding. To have a front row seat watching how you all have worked relentlessly, taking it day by day and not taking a backward step, was nothing sort of inspirational. I am beyond proud of you all. There is no coincidence, I believe, that when the world has been turned upside down and is in desperate need of guidance and initiative, that you are the group about to emerge into society with fresh minds and a never give up attitude. The world needs you. This year has prepared you for anything that can be thrown your way. Take risks, be bold, make statements and never listen to people who say ‘it can’t be done’. You are living proof that anything can be done. So, enjoy the satisfaction of your schooling success and get ready for the rest of your life to start. This year was my first year as a year coordinator and I will never forget you all. You will be hard to beat as my favourite cohort of all time! Thrive in style champions!
