23.01.2022 2018 Garlic planting has begun. 4 rows to go, thanks to some much appreciated help from Matthew. This year we are planting both Glenlarge and Russian Garlic. 2 weeks and it is through the hay as you can see in the photos. We have also put some Tumeric in to see how it grows here. This year we have used products recommended by the Nutri-Tech Solutions agronomist.

21.01.2022 20 Rows all planted. Now just cover the last few. Then we can rest!

20.01.2022 Its harvest day today

17.01.2022 Hello Everyone. Garlic update. Unfortunately we havent had much of a cold winter this year & have had only a small amount of rain but the garlic seems to be doing well considering. We have been able to keep our crop nourished with plenty of organic matter/fertilizer which has been a combination of worm juice from our worm farm, seasol & calcium & we have been able to keep up with regular watering through the trickle we laid out in the lanes underneath the hay. Making the choice to lay hay over our crop instead of black plastic has performed wonderfully so far in keeping the weeds at bay & the soil underneath moist. So far so good If all goes according to plan we should be due for harvest in late October to early November

08.01.2022 Day 2 off of harvest

02.01.2022 Finally got some Worm Tea on the garlic patch! We use worm tea, to increase the microbial life in the soil, which helps speed up the break down of hay that covered the garlic crop last year. This will help to increase the organic matter in our soil. We have a sandy loam soil, which drains well, but sometimes too well because of almost no organic matter. So increasing the organic matter will increase the water holding capacity of the soil. Our aim is to improve the soil and build humus while taking a crop off, instead of mining our soil.

01.01.2022 Garlic Update As you can see the leaves are beginning to die off soooo that means the garlic is almost due for our first harvest.....
