19.01.2022 This week Years 5 and 6 have been involved in High School Week. It has been a small taste of what is to come as they make their way on to their chosen high school. They have had to read timetables, move between classrooms and teachers, look after their equipment and engage in a variety of new learning experiences. We know that moving on to high school is a special milestone in a child’s life, and with it comes many new and challenging experiences. Our High School Week at Beresford Road PS is designed to support each student to be better prepared for the new challenges this change will bring. Along the way, it is clear the students have been highly engaged and had a great time. Thank you to the teachers and students for making this week such a great experience.

11.01.2022 Dear Parents and Carers, Over the last few weeks I have received a number of questions regarding end of year events, how much involvement parents will be able to have in the end of year activities and gift giving between students. As you are aware, COVID guidelines have resulted in schools having to make many difficult decisions. While these decisions are an important part of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and the community, we share the parent’s disapp...ointment at not being able to participate in these milestone events the same way we have in previous years. Changing COVID guidelines requires significant replanning of these important events. As much as possible over the coming weeks, we will seek ways for parents to be involved, but I am also aware that promoting safety and wellbeing requires clear and consistent communication. As Principal, I need to ensure that our plans do not allow for or promote crowding and that social distancing/ hygiene rules are strictly adhered to. We are currently modifying our Presentation Day plans to allow for 1 parent from each award recipient to attend the assembly. This will require at least 4 separate assemblies to accommodate the current 4 square metre rule per person. We are planning for Year 6 parents to be part of our celebration as we watch our graduating students exit the school for the final time. Further information will come out in the following week. In regards to students giving cards or gifts to their peers, we ask that everything is individually wrapped. Teachers will direct students to place any items they have received into their bags for parents to assess whether their child can keep or eat the gift. The end of year is a busy time in all schools and COVID guidelines have meant that many of our old practices are not appropriate this year. Thank you for your understanding and support as we come to the closing weeks of a year we will all remember.
