21.01.2022 Bored dogs get into trouble. We’re their main source of entertainment, so if we don’t give them stuff to do they’ll come up with activities of their own and that’s when we end up with chewed up shoes and curtains. By playing with your dog a few times a day you can decrease the likelihood of them developing destructive habits such as excessive barking or chewing. Here's a few ways to keep your dog busy indoors... 1. Find the treat 2. Learn a new trick 3. Hide a treat under a cup and shuffle with 2 other cups 4. Play which hand game 5. Kong balls filled with treats. We suggest @byronbaypeanutbutter smeared inside with their favourite treat. @kongcompany 6. Bake some homemade pet biscuits. You can find all your organic certified ingredients from @thesourcedural Credit : https://www.freepik.com//beautiful-young-black-labrador-re

13.01.2022 Hands Up if you use human shampoo on your pets? Using a human shampoo on dogs disrupts the acid mantle, leaving your dog vulnerable to parasites, viruses, and bacteria. It also makes his skin feel dry and flaky, which can lead to repeated scratching and abrasions. This makes it easy for bacteria to invade Pet shampoos we recommend are the Dermcare range, Aloveen Oatmeal for sensitive skin and Dermcare Natural Everyday for normal skin types ... @dermcare_vet #repost Credit @miggyandargo

09.01.2022 In light of Sydney's current flooding crisis we have the following information from David King Hawkesbury SES that might assist some of our Bergman Park horse and livestock clients in the Windsor, Pitt Town and Richmond areas: - IT DOESN’T TAKE A LOT OF WATER TO DROWN A HORSE Horses can quickly succumb to ... pneumonia if they inhale a small amount of water. Always keep the horse’s head out of water. - BEWARE THE ‘CALM’ TRAPPED HORSE When working around trapped animals it is easy to be lulled into a false sense of security if they do not appear to be struggling. Horses, for instance, will give up easily, rest for a while and then explode momentarily before calming again. This unpredictable behavioural process will continue if not controlled. The horse can literally ‘self destruct’. Animals may also struggle if stimulated by the rescue operation (noise movement vibrations), rescuers (loud and excited) or an emotional owner (crying or screaming). - PROVIDE RESTRAINT Always place a head restraint (commercial halter or improvised halter) onto the horse prior to undertaking any form of rescue orrelocation. - A RELEASED ANIMAL MAY TAKE FLIGHT Once sensing freedom herd animals may attempt to return to the herd with no regard for those around thescene of operations. This is also an important reason to provide some form of ‘quick release’ on a vertical lifting system. - DETERMINE WHAT TO DO WITH THE ANIMAL ONCE IT HAS BEEN RESCUED Take your time to arrange how and where the animal is going once rescued or relocated. Can you access a nearby paddock or is it being transported to the veterinary practice? By David King Deputy Controller Hawkesbury SES Unit NSWSESV
