07.01.2022 In 2021 the Berkeley Eagles RLFC have made to decision to enter teams in The Illawarra Shield, U18s Men and Opens Women. We are pleased to announce that Shane Donoghoe has been appointed Captain Coach of the men’s Shield team. Shane has had many years of success both as a coach and player in the Illawarra competition and we look forward to working with him in the upcoming season.

07.01.2022 JUNIORS: The committee will be meeting with coaches of international age teams, to discuss the viability of teams returning to training and playing. We understand people’s frustration in not really knowing what will happen with League this season. As a club we will endeavour to keep you updated as we hear and know more. ... What remains in the forefront for us in any decisions we make, will always be the viability for the club going forward, and the safety of our players and parents

01.01.2022 JUNIORS: An update regarding 2020 season. As with the current climate of covid19. Berkeley Eagles have come to the decision that we will not return this year. We do at this stage have 2 of the older teams training in the hopes that it will be viable to get them back on the field and playing. This has not come easy but there are many factors to consider, which many may not be aware. At this stage Illawarra are only focusing in the international age teams. "These competitions... are a priority to conduct as they are key to developing future representative talent". League tag 14/16 competition are posing a concern to Ilawarra as this will need to be played on a Friday night. With limited fields have lights it is under threat this comp will go ahead. Under 6 to under 12 NO COMPETITION WILL BE CONDUCTED. Whilst some club's in the Illawarra have returned to training in all ages groups, it poses a massive strain on the running of the club. As fields need to be roped off for every training session with a dedicated entry and exit points. An attendance Register for every player/person on groups needs to be keep and Covid19 screening. Providing hand washing stations and equipment stations thru out venue. Also washing of all equipment prior to storage. Due to the Public Health Order club's are training over the entire week to maintain social distancing and crowd numbers, this is not feasible for Berkeley Eagles. The volunteers needed to provide such measures to comply far outweigh our committee manpower. Some illawarra club's may pull out of season altogether as the financial cost will be devastating to club's. As the NSWRL will still charge it's usual amounts for fees/insurance. Also costs of renting fields and electricity has remained the same. With no revenue from canteens and not likely with limited number of people at venues. Things will change for other clubs. Because as much as we want our kids to play footy it is not feasible with all the restrictions. Many weeks and meetings with illawarra as well effort and time submitting Covid-19 safety and training plans to NSWRL went into our decision. We understand this is not what we are used to, but 2020 will be remembered as a very different year and community level sport is just another victim of the Covid-19 pandemic. Any concerns regarding our decision please contact us for clarification. We will keep updated as orders may be lifted. We hope to see all our Berkeley Eagles on the field soon. Thank you for your support.
