22.01.2022 Are you a good person or do you just look like one? We were so excited to have @dianareid_ come by and sign copies of her brilliant debut novel ‘Love & Virtue’! We cannot keep this staff favourite on the shelves so get in quick to get your signed copy today! .... More about ‘Love & Virtue’: Michaela and Eve are two bright, bold women who befriend each other their first year at a residential college at university, where they live in adjacent rooms. They could not be more different; one assured and popular the other uncertain and eager-to-please. But something happens one night in O-week a drunken encounter, a foggy memory that will force them to confront the realities of consent and wrestle with the dynamics of power. Initially bonded by their wit and sharp eye for the colleges’ mix of material wealth and moral poverty, Michaela and Eve soon discover how fragile friendship is, and how capable of betrayal they both are. Written with a strikingly contemporary voice that is both wickedly clever and incisive, issues of consent, class and institutional privilege, and feminism become provocations for enduring philosophical questions we face today.

16.01.2022 Father’s Day is fast approaching (it’s next Sunday 6 September!) so it’s time to start thinking about spoiling the fathers and father figures in your life! Our top pick for Father’s Day (and every other day) is the powerful, heartbreaking, and ultimately hopeful memoir from Eddie Jaku ‘The Happiest Man On Earth’ ...... Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you. Eddie Jaku always considered himself a German first, a Jew second. He was proud of his country. But all of that changed in November 1938, when he was beaten, arrested and taken to a concentration camp. Over the next seven years, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors every day, first in Buchenwald, then in Auschwitz, then on a Nazi death march. He lost family, friends, his country. Because he survived, Eddie made the vow to smile every day. He pays tribute to those who were lost by telling his story, sharing his wisdom and living his best possible life. He now believes he is the 'happiest man on earth'. Published as Eddie turns 100, this is a powerful, heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful memoir of how happiness can be found even in the darkest of times.

11.01.2022 Spring has sprung and we have a great selection of new releases available in store now! Not sure what to choose? Here are some of our favourites! ‘My Friend Fox’ by Heidi Everett - Part parable, part memoir, this is a story that might be familiar to some searching everywhere to finally feel at home. With fox as her guide, Heidi comes to know how to live authentically, and venture into a future of her own making. ‘Mrs March’ by Virginia Feito - A well-to-do New York hous...ewife begins to unravel after she convinces herself that her husband’s new bestselling novel is actually about her in this brilliant psychological thriller. ‘Beautiful World, Where Are You?’ By Sally Rooney. Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young-but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in. It’s classic Sally Rooney and hence brilliant! ‘Chance’ by Andrew Rule - All his life, Andrew Rule has watched racing's heroes and villains, dreamers and schemers. Here he distils the daring, the desperation and danger of the track, peeling back some of racing's most famous and infamous moments, its celebrations and its secrets, the grittiness behind the glitz. ‘When You Were Mine’ by Michael Robotham - An exhilarating standalone thriller where you won’t know who to trust. A young officer with the London Metropolitan Police, arrests a man when attending a brutal domestic violence call. Unbeknownst to her he is decorated Detective Superintendent and has the charges dropped. With her career now in tatters, she strikes a friendship with Tempe, the victim of the assault. But Tempe is not who she seems... ‘Once There Were Wolves’ by Charlotte McConaghy - Aggi follows her twin, Inti, a biologist, to the remote Scottish Highlands to return fourteen wolves to the wilderness. However, the locals are not happy and that’s before a local farmer disappears ‘When Things Are Alive They Hum’ by Hannah Bent - Two sisters are reunited by devastating news in this sparkling debut by a young Australian author. A beautifully raw and empathetic portrait of family, grief, and what we owe to one another. ‘Empire of the Vampire’ by Jay Kristoff - Twilight is now on Netflix and vampires are back, baby! Though this brilliant new epic (clocking in at just over 700 pages) from Jay Kristoff definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. Imprisioned by the very monsters he sought to destroy, the last of the vampire hunters tells his story of the vampire war. Think ‘Interview with the Vampire’ meets ‘In the Name of the Wind’. It’s bloody brilliant (pun intended). We are open for click and collect Monday to Saturday from 10am-4pm. To purchase a book(s) please call the store on 02 9371 5500 or email is at [email protected]

Charmed by its magnetic founder, Kit, and the natural beauty of the former farmland, Alex settles easily into her new home. But her arrival at Pine Ridge disturbs barely submerged secrets, and she's shaken by a series of eerily familiar events that seem to be connected to the abandoned farmhouse on the hill. From international bestselling thriller writer Anna Downes, ‘The Shadow House’ lures you in and keeps you on edge at every turn.

05.01.2022 Local author John Baker dropped by the store this week to sign copies of his brilliant new book ‘Stalin’s Wine Cellar’ Pick up a signed copy in-store today! ... The adventure of a lifetime to buy Stalin’s secret multimillion dollar wine cellar located in Georgia; it is the Raiders of the Lost Ark of wine. In the late 1990s, John Baker was known as a purveyor of quality rare and old wines. Always entrepreneurial and up for adventure, he was the perfect person for an occasional business partner to approach with a mysterious wine list that was foreign to anything John, or his second-in-command, Kevin Hopko, had ever come across. The list was discovered to be a comprehensive catalogue of the wine collection of Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia. The wine had become the property of the state after the Russian Revolution of 1918, during which Nicholas and his entire family were executed. Now owned by Stalin, the wine was discreetly removed to a remote Georgian winery when Stalin was concerned the advancing Nazi army might overrun Russia, and inevitably loot artefacts and treasures. Half a century later, the wine was rumoured to be hidden underground and off any known map. John and Kevin embarked on an audacious, colourful and potentially dangerous journey to Georgia to discover if the wines actually existed; if the bottles were authentic and whether the entire collection could be bought and transported to a major London auction house for sale. ‘Stalin's Wine Cellar’ is a wild, sometimes rough ride in the glamorous world of high-end wine. From Double Bay Sydney to Tbilisi Georgia, via the streets of Paris, the vineyards of Bordeaux and iconic Château d'Yquem. A multimillion dollar cellar and a breathtaking collection of wine (and one very expensive broken bottle) is the elusive treasure. The cast of characters include Stalin, Hitler, Tsar Nicholas II and a motley bunch of Georgian businessmen/cowboys toting handguns, in the early days of Russian business development that led to the world of Putin and oligarchs.
