25.01.2022 Last session with the Journey of Hope program... a big thankyou to Julia and everyone from Save the Children Project for supporting our children xx

24.01.2022 Check out what's been happening at Bermagui Preschool in our latest newsletter... http://bermaguipreschool.com.au//Newsletter-September-16-2

23.01.2022 Today at Bermagui Preschool we were visited by the King and Queen of Green... a dynamic duo who have travelled to the south coast to teach young children about sustainability. Their wonderful performance provided our captivated Preschool audience with practical ways to look after our planet, including Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. They shared information about using coloured coded bins, reducing land fill, creating and using compost, as well as the benefits of Chooks and Worms.... Also discussed was natures packaging... choosing food that come without plastic wraps or packages. Their Majesties were very impressed with our Preschoolers knowledge, with our clever children engaging in the songs and activities, answering questions and sharing information about our many Preschool sustainable practices with the King and Queen of Green. Sustainability in Early Childhood Education is an important part of our curriculum and is incorporated into our program, routines and physical environment. Learning about the environment and how natural systems function is something we should all support and is needed for the well-being of ourselves and our planet. A big thankyou to Ian and Juliette and from the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company and Bega Valley Shire Council for sponsoring the performance.

23.01.2022 Over the past few months our children and teachers have been working on developing their skills and knowledge of Emotional Literacy. This has included participating in a variety of activities and play experience to enhance emotional expression and resilience. With the continued support of Julia and Matt from the Save the Children Project, we are working with children and families to provide that extra support in what has been very challenging times for us all. Today Julia a...nd Matt talked to the children about Self Esteem and how important it is to believe in yourself and be proud of your achievements. We worked 1:1 and in small groups to facilitated supported play and a variety of games and activities to support the emotional resilience of our children. The children enjoyed creating a magic wand, sharing what they loved about themselves and their friends, playing games, listening to stories and dancing. This time and attention has helped the children express their thoughts and feelings, while the educators offer empathy and suggest strategies to understand and regulate, what at times, can be big emotions. A big thankyou to Julia, Matt and the Save the Children fund for their support.

23.01.2022 A huge thankyou to Dennis Pitt for creating such a wonderful mural for our Preschool... we have loved watching our blank Preschool wall being transformed during the week to become such a beautiful representation of culture, country and community

23.01.2022 Our Preschool has so many opportunities for the children to explore and learn about numbers, counting and maths, all while playing and having fun

22.01.2022 NAIDOC Week... Always was, always will be

21.01.2022 Today we used vegetables from our Moodji Garden to make delicious vegetable soup. After intentional teaching, our confident and capable children worked with sharp knives to cut and chop vegetables. Pumpkin, Celery, peas, Snow Peas, Parsnip and Parsley were all added to our soup. Sid commented that he loved how we only made healthy food at Preschool... and with all these fresh vegetables in our soup, we would have to agree!!! Then we mixed, stirred and cooked the soup and sh...ared it for afternoon tea. It was delicious with some children having several helpings!!! We will follow up by reading the story Stone Soup and putting the recipe in our Preschool Cookbook so we can cook this delicious soup at home with our families. At Bermagui Preschool, we believe play should be hands-on, stimulating, challenging and allow children to practice and refine their skills in fun and meaningful ways. We believe it is important to provide opportunities for children to experiment, discover, explore, create and investigate with the support of other children and the educators. Cooking is a wonderful way to facilitate this in our Preschool classroom.

21.01.2022 This week we visited the Sculpture Bermagui Exhibits at the Bermagui Surf Club and the Headland. There was an amazing collection of large and small sculptures from a variety of talented artists. This was a great opportunity to explore sculptures and art in a personal and hands on way. The children were able to talk about what the art was made from, how it was made, what it looked like and how it made them feel. There were discussions about their favourite sculptures and why ...they liked them so much. Some of the children were very creative with the stories about the sculptures and how they came to be there. Through art children are able to express themselves and make meaning of their world. Back at Preschool we learnt more about sculptures through further discussion, stories, picture displays and games such as musical statues. We have also created our own sculptures with a variety of materials in our art studio. We collaborated to bring these small pieces together to create a larger sculpture that is now also displayed at the Surf Club. How amazing are our talented emerging Preschool artists!!! EYLF Outcomes demonstrated in this observation: 4.3 Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another 5.3 Children express ideas and make meaning using a range of media

20.01.2022 Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians developing some form of skin cancer before age 70. You can protect your child from the sun by teaching them to become SunSmart. It is also important to model good sun protection habits, as children learn by observing their parents' and caregivers' behaviour. Our SunSmart message at Preschool is Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide. This message is a simple and effective way to reduce t...he risk of skin cancer. * Slip on clothing to cover skin (Put on clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Choose lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that won't make your child too hot). * Slop on sunscreen (Use SPF30 or higher broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen on your child's face, arms, hands and any other skin that is not covered. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours. Sunscreen does not completely block out all UV radiation and should never be the only method of sun protection). * Slap on a hat (Choose a hat that shades your child's face, back of the neck, eyes and ears, and is a suitable size for your child's head. Broad-brimmed, Legionnaire or bucket hats are best. Baseball caps and visors are not recommended). * Seek shade (Try to use shade whenever possible. If you can, choose a shady place for your child to play, such as under a tree, shade sail or umbrella. UV radiation can burn even when you are in the shade, so it is important you and your child also wear sunscreen, a hat and appropriate clothing). * Slide on sunglasses (Sunglasses are labelled with protection category ratings, which indicate how well they protect the eyes from UV radiation. Choose wrap-around sunglasses that are labelled category 2, 3 or 4. Category 1 or 0 sunglasses do not provide enough UV protection. A soft elastic strap will help to keep sunglasses in place for babies and toddlers). At Preschool the children engaged with the many activities and are independently attempting to ensure their own sun safety. They were strategically taught how to apply their own sunscreen, have their own Preschool hat and also found lots of shady places to play outside. Inside we used stories, songs and activities to reinforce the SunSmart message. We will continue to support the children with their developing skills. For further information visit https://www.sunsmart.com.au//resources/be-sunsmart-play-su

19.01.2022 Children are hands-on learners, and the world around them provides so many natural opportunities to explore, investigate and learn. That’s why we were so excited to celebrate Science Week at Bermagui Preschool. Each day we discussed science-based topics and found ways to provide opportunities, activities and experiences for the children to ask questions, make predictions, hypothesise, observe, test, and then communicate their findings. From life sciences, environmental scie...nce, physical science, chemistry, earth science (to name a few), there are so many ways to included science in our Preschool program. These fun and hands on experiences encouraged the children to develop critical thinking skills and build knowledge from what they already knew. Science helps children develop key life skills, including an ability to communicate, remain organized and focused, and even form their own opinions based on observation. Science also helps children develop their senses and overall awareness. Author, Mahtab Narsimhan, said it best, A good education is the greatest gift you can give yourself or anyone else.

19.01.2022 Wishing all our Bermagui Preschool children and families a relaxing, safe and happy New Year xx

12.01.2022 A big thankyou to Bega Valley Shire Council for the beautiful poster they created for our Preschool. We participated in their Little Hands Paint Sunflowers earlier in the year, with the posters being displayed in the Bega Library and now our Preschool front window to bring lots of joy to the community. The poster is a wonderful reminder of how resilient our young children have been and how many wonderful people in our community have supported our youngest citizens through this challenging year.

11.01.2022 The children and teachers loved their first day back at Preschool.... Everyone is settling into the preschool program and enjoying a calm and relaxed start to the year. Today was full of creativity, exploring the environment and connecting with our friends, old and new. Outside we searched for lady beetles, butterflies and lizards in the Moodji garden, as well as harvesting cherry tomatoes, carrots and beans. Inside puppets, trains and cars were popular and also extended our... imaginations, sharing and turn taking skills. Our new teacher Olga ran a felting workshops with was lovely and soft and soapy such a wonderful calming and sensory activity. Inside also we created in the art studio, had tea parties in the cafe, explored letters in the writing centre and constructed with blocks. There was also stories, music, painting, drawing and fun games. It has been a wonderful time for building relationships and making everyone feels safe secure and supported. We are learning each child's new interests and skills with positive interactions. What a great start to the year. We are looking forward to learning and growing together this year.

10.01.2022 With Father’s Day just around the corner it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate the diversity of our fabulous families. The simple activity of making a Father’s Day present and card probably doesn’t cause you any surprise. But if you are a preschooler with two Dads or one Mum, or a toddler living with Grandparents or a child in a blended family then these familiar activities are painting picturesand parametersof what a family looks like. Make no mistake..., families with one mom and one dad are wonderful. But other family structures are wonderful as well. When children know their family looks different to the activities and stories represented, they can feel excluded or confused about where they fit in and if their family counts. Child Theorist Kurtz suggests Celebrating the beauty in our differences helps to build a stronger community, diminishes prejudice or fear and enriches our society by creating global citizens in our children. You’re teaching children about respect for others. At Bermagui Preschool we created space in our art studio where children could participate in gift making and card making for those people they loved in their families. In the dramatic play area, dolls house and book corner we shared activities that celebrated family diversity as well as challenging gender stereo types. We followed up with stories, games and conversations about our own families and the families of others. This was a great way to share our family stories and learn about other families too. On top of that, honoring diverse families in our classroom will help children feel included in their learning environment. When children know that their familythe people they love most in the worldare valued and truly seen by their teachers, it helps send the message that they belong in that classroom.

See more

09.01.2022 From pretend cooking in the cubby to real cooking in the kitchen, there was so much fun and learning at Bermagui Preschool today. On the menu today was vegetable frittata, with the children harvesting spinach, broccoli and herbs from the Moodji Garden and checking the chooks for freshly laid eggs. They then worked together to make the frittata which was shared for afternoon tea... YUM!!!

06.01.2022 We want our children to grow global-mindedness for people from other cultures and races. We can help our children connect and appreciate cultures abroad and of their own neighbours in so many ways. A perfect way to foster cultural appreciation is through food. At Preschool we made Gyoza. Gyoza (, gyza) are dumplings filled with ground meat and vegetables wrapped in a thin dough. Gyoza originated in China (where they are called jiaozi), but have become a very popular dish i...n Japan. Today we filled our gyoza with ground pork, mushrooms, cabbage, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and oil, but you can be creative with gyoza and pretty much fill them with anything!!! Gyoza are the perfect food to get little hands working... not only are they easy and fun to make, they are also delicious. We followed up by making sushi... I wonder what we will make next time at Preschool? Cooking is a life skill. It is the simplest of tools to arm our children with so they can cook and nourish themselves with fresh whole foods, now, and as they grow. It is also a perfect gateway to start a conversation with children about why certain cultures eat particular foods and how the dishes came to be. Cultural food traditions are unique in that they embody the rich history and heritage of the people who cook the dishes. If you love to eat a particular culture's cuisine, you can learn about the specific culture and heritage and are more likely to extend compassion and understanding towards others.

01.01.2022 Dear Bermagui Preschool families. Despite another uncertain start, we sincerely wish you a Happy New Year and hope you and your families are all well. Our thoughts are with our families and local businesses who have been affected by the border closures and Covid 19 restrictions. There has just been an announcement of a person from Melbourne with Covid 19 visiting Bermi Beachside Cafe on 30/12/2020. In regards to those who are attending Bermagui Preschool Vacation Care, on Mon...day we will err on the side of caution and go back to our strategies that we used previously including: *All children, families and staff to stay at home if they have flu like symptoms or have traveled to any of the hotspots in the last two weeks. * Children to be dropped at the gate with a staff member meeting and greeting and sanitising iPads after each use. Social distancing to be maintained between adults. No non essential visitors to enter the Preschool. *Sanitize hands and high levels of disinfecting and cleaning, particularly high touch areas. We will keep you informed of any other updates or information as it comes to hand. Please email if you need, otherwise stay calm and safe. See more

01.01.2022 Did you know it was National Dog Day today? What better way to celebrate than to have a visit from a real puppy!!! Kirsty brought her new puppy Roxy to visit us at Preschool today. She was so cute and the children were so amazing with her, despite being super excited. They listened carefully as Kirsty talked about how to look after Roxy and how to be gentle and calm when patting her. We used our knowledge from the "Living with Dogs" program to take turns to give Roxy pats and... tummy scratches. We extended our learning and incorporated literacy and numeracy by reading stories, singing songs and playing games about dogs and puppies. Having a pet at school can give children an opportunity to observe, interact and learn about animals. It can be a valuable part of their education and care experience, enriching their learning about nature, ecology and relationships. Animals can become a 'fourth teacher' - a conduit to learning - which is an extension of the Reggio Emilia approach to early education. When children interact with animals, they build the all-important senses of connection, empathy and caring. They feel a sense of responsibility and are curious to find out more about the animal. Caring for a pet instills respect for life and an awareness of the needs of others as well as giving children an understanding of how their behavior can affect others. Pets can lift the children's spirits and lessens tensions because the children are so keen to interact with the animals. A big thankyou to Kirsty for letting Roxy visit us today.
