25.01.2022 Please don’t open up a message on messenger from Jason Parr Working on fixing it Thanks Bernie

23.01.2022 After spending a bit of time around South East Queensland we now find ourselves working and helping out at the Quilpie Heritage Inn, in Quiplie, over 1,000kms west of Brisbane. This grand hotel is around 100 years old and the new owners, Yvonne and Paul, who reopened it last November, are developing it based on great food and hospitality and are doing a fantasitic job with a small enthusiastic team. So we're going to see if we can fit in here for a few months and get some more hotel experience and get to know Quilpie and the region.

18.01.2022 We stopped and had a meal at Rudds Pub in Nobby, and adorned on the walls and on the tables the life of this amazing lady is displayed. Across the road from the pub is the Sister Kenny museum and up on the hill overlooking the town is the cemetary where Sister Kenny lies with her mother.

14.01.2022 In the Outback, not only do you have to deal with Green frogs , a crazy magpie bird , Brolgars, snakes , lots of Gidgees and Midges, lizards (fast ones at that) etc etc. Here we are this evening with a horse and a donkey saying hello What will next week bring

14.01.2022 TOMORROW IS TOO FAR AWAY We travel our land, in work and play, and meet every person we can. We ask every question that comes our way,... to understand the soul of this land. We travel down the dustiest roads, in search of sea and sand. Then turn around and start again, to find the spirit of where it all began. But our journey has a price to pay, that we leave our kids behind. I miss you more than I can say, but stand fast cause now's your time. You’re not alone as we walk with you, not in hand but always in mind. I was always there when you needed me, and now that I'm not, your path you'll find. But soon enough we'll be back to the fore, and walk with you in your prime. And the seeds that we have planted, we hope, will be the tree that you will climb.

12.01.2022 for everyone that misses someone..... THE GATES OF HEAVEN If I could walk to the gates of heaven, ... and talk to you one more time. If l could walk to the gates of heaven, and dry the tears from my mind. If I could hold your hand in heaven, and cherish every word you say. If I could hold your hand in heaven, I would fill my heart every day. If I could touch who you are in heaven, and guide me through my fray. If you can touch me from up in heaven, and then let heaven have its way. If I could walk to the gates of heaven, and keep our memories alive. If I could hold your hand in heaven, and live a moment by your side. If I could hold a rainbow in my palm, it would be my stairway to heaven. If I could follow your guiding arm, and live a moment with you in heaven. If I could hear your voice once more, and meet you at the gates of heaven. then I would love like never before, and treasure that moment in heaven. If I could take a tear from my eye, it would be my key to heaven. But I could never say goodbye, to those I love in heaven. If I could walk to the gates of heaven, and stop missing you for a day. If you could talk to me from heaven and tell me that you’re ok.

06.01.2022 Stories from an Outback Barman The one main reason I enjoy working behind a bar is listening to people’s stories and in a lot of ways they end up becoming mine, and my story starts to weave into theirs. Telling and listening to stories in a pub is as iconic as the Aussie Character and as historic as the old English Tavern, in fact the word Tavern is derived from the Roman word tabernae, which were established along Roman roads to provide travelling legionary troops with wine....Continue reading

04.01.2022 Ever wondered what sound a Brolga makes?

03.01.2022 It's been a few weeks since we have posted anything on our page but most of our time has been busy in the Hotel routine of room cleaning and in the arvo in the bar and dining room. But we are making sure we get to explore the regional area around Quilpie. Monday of last week we went for a drive to the nearest larger town of Charleville, with Marc the resident Chef. Just down the road, 215kms. This week we went out to Hell Hole Gorge, Via Adavale. It's on the map, and some peo...ple passing by the Hotel are on their way there or have been there, so for us it was time to go and visit it ourselves. Marc our next door neighbor, came with us and we followed Yvonne and Paul, the Heritage Inn owners. Marc, who is the Heritage Chef, comes from Deal in south England and has also worked in Buckingham Palace, (sorry Marc, couldn't let that pass), but was quite concerned when we got to Adavale of the desolute street scape of the few isolated buildings and was wondering if the moment had sent him to a scene of Wrong Turn. Adavale was settled as a potential Rail Line end back in the 1800's as were a number of small outback towns and had a peak population of 2,500. When the rail went to Quilpie and Adavale was regularly flooded most of the building were transported to Quilpie. The population of Adavale today is only 25. Well the concern passed a bit when we went to the Elegant Emu for coffee and cake, a lovely lady trying to maintain a livelihood in a little outback town. She gave us a brief run-down of all the happenings around town and her plans to replace the oven by xmas. We then went off to the Gorge which turned to dirt road and gravel track at the end. We stopped at Spencers gully which proved to be worth the visit and came across a group of resident turtles floating and sun-backing in the water. There weren't many signs at the gorge, in fact only one that pointed to a water hole that could leave you feeling very dissatisfied if you didn't explore further. A little bit of a walk further up river found a minor gorge that made the trip a little bit worth while. It was an day out, that we wouldn't of otherwise had, and now when we are asked what and where is Hell Hole Gorge, we can give them a reasonable good answer.

03.01.2022 When you’re travelling around Australia as much as you can, within COVID restrictions. This is our dream and we’re doing it now, while we can. Working as we go. We sure do miss our kids and our little grand girls. There’s one person that I wish I could spend more time with and with COVID and state border closures etc etc. that makes it harder than normal. Tonight, I had a special FaceTime with my brother Anthony, with the help of Sharon Briggs He’s not going so good now.... I’m pretty sure our FaceTime gave him a great lift in happiness as it did with mine Many more to come, I’m sure. Keep on being happy Anthony and we’ll see you soon enough See more

02.01.2022 Our Noccundra Trip. Last Monday and Tuesday we went on a two-day southern road trip on what is regionally known as the Natural Sciences Loop, or half of it at least. The trip ended up being a contrast of hospitality, read on and I will tell you what I mean. Our first stop was Eromanga, which is still within the Quilpie Shire, but by contrast to Quilpie it looks quite a run-down town, old and tired. We popped into the pub for a drink before we headed out to the Living History ...Continue reading
