22.01.2022 - In celebration of National Reconciliation Week - 'In this Together'. Now more than ever this resonates with us at The Cottage. We would like to acknowledge Guringai, the Traditional custodians of this land. Berowra being an Aboriginal word meaning 'the place of shells', although for a time it was also said to mean 'the place of many winds. ... On this journey, Australians are all In This Together; every one of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation. In valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures, we have sewed hand-made Parent Communication pockets, that represent Indigenousl Art.

18.01.2022 Continued Education and awareness is paramount even in times of Pandemics. Last night we had the opportunity to be part of a Child Protection Refresher Webinar, hosted by In Safe Hands. Our role as Mandatory Reporters is crucial while working in the Early Years sector and caring and educating young children. We have a Duty of Care to our children, families and wider Community to have up to date knowledge of Child Protection Law and Regulations.

11.01.2022 Educating children about seasonal food has far-reaching benefits as not only does it help children learn more about where food comes from, it also links with other skills such as time, weather and the seasons. It’s important for children to understand that fruit and vegetables naturally grow, ripen and are best eaten during certain seasons each year. Their taste and nutrition value is considered to be at their highest when they are in season, which is a concept that can be ch...allenging for children to understand when modern farming, technology and transport means fruits and vegetables have year round availability in our supermarkets. Eating seasonally also supports local farmers and suppliers and ensures greater variety in our diets. Autumn Term: This is the best time of year to talk about courgettes, blackberries, apples, sweetcorn, runner beans, potatoes, red and white cabbage and Brussel sprouts.
